Nile couldn't stop laughing when she walked into the living room and saw Joe checking if Nicky had tightened his bulletproof vest properly by sliding his hand under it. When Joe wasn't satisfied, he tightened the bulletproof vest even more than Nicky already had done.
“Tesoro,” Nicky said while gasping for air. "Remember I prefer to breathe."
“So do I, so stop complaining,” Joe replied in a sharp tone filled with love before he kneeled to make sure that Nicky had tied his shoelaces properly.
Nile looked at Andy who was swinging her labrys.
“It is just like watching a mother with her kid before school starts,” Nile said as she started to put ammunition in her weapon. "Why is Joe doing it?"
“Once Nicky tripped in his shoelaces and fell over his sword cutting the main artery because he was too lazy to tie them," Andy replied. "Since then Joe always makes sure that they are tied, so it takes Nicky hours to get the boots off."
“It is kinda sweet,” Nile replied with a smile. "And very caring."
“Joe isn't finished with getting Nicky ready,” Andy replied. "Watch."
At that moment, Joe put some extra food and water in Nicky’s backpack. Then Joe turned Nicky around and took around his neck, so they could lean their foreheads against each other, while he said something, only they understood and shared a kiss. The last thing Joe did was to pull up the hood on Nicky’s hoodie.
“We’re ready,” Nicky said
As soon Joe turned around to pick his backpack up, Nicky loosened his bulletproof vest a bit before taking a deep breath in. It resulted in Joe tightening Nicky's bulletproof vest again before Joee gave Nicky a look, that said "Leave it" as a response, Nicky nodded because he wanted to be alive after the mission, so he and Joe could take the trip to Nice, they had talked about last night.
