Work Text:

It’s been a month since Izuku agreed to go out with Katsuki, despite being obviously in love with the explosive hero, he worries a lot. Thinking about all the different ways their relationship could go wrong, that’s probably how he’d convinced himself to give up on his chance with Katsuki. So to say he was shocked when Katsuki asked him out would be an understatement.

Katsuki took Izuku out on a date that same day, nothing big, just a little movie and dinner date. He let Izuku talk his head off and did his best to convey that he loved every moment of it. But he could tell how Izuku was holding himself back, they’d barely even seen each other when they came back from the date. Katsuki was a little frustrated but he was determined.

So Friday morning, once he knew Izuku would be awake he went to his dorm. “We’re going on a date this afternoon.” He turned and left. He wouldn’t let Izuku self sabotage this. Katsuki had been looking up good date ideas, some of them were dumb, or didn’t apply to them. They didn’t have to get to know each other, they’d known each other for what seemed like forever. He just wanted the setting to change, he wanted there to be room to feel and explore different emotions and feelings. He wanted to show Izuku that he was happy being with him and that he could be caring and nice and a boyfriend, hell even romantic!

Izuku had been a little surprised at the sudden invite but Katsuki didn’t leave him a chance to say no and he liked that. He couldn’t over think it or get nervous and say no. So he was excited they were going out again, seeing Katsuki’s determination helped convince Izuku it was real.

Katsuki had looked at so many date ideas and it seemed to be hopeless to find one special enough and then he got the best idea. So he put on a nice button down, top few buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up with a pair of jeans. He wanted to look nice but not too nice, and he made his way back to Izuku’s dorm and knocked.

“You ready for our date, Deku?” Katsuki asks and holds his hand out. He notices Izuku is just wearing a t-shirt and jeans, but the t-shirt fits him properly and he swears those green curls look a little more styled and well that's enough for him. “You look cute today.” Izuku hesitates before taking his hand, a small blush on his cheeks as they head out.

“Y-you look handsome, Kacchan.” Izuku mumbles out, he’s obviously nervous but the smile that he keeps trying to hide just reminds Katsuki that he wants this too.

They make their way out of the dorms and off campus, getting on the train, and find two seats together in the back. Katsuki turns his full attention to his date, their hands still interlocked.

“You still like astronomy right, Deku? I remember you would use the telescope my dad had when we were little.” Katsuki recalls, he even thinks about how as a kid he tried to give away his dad's telescope to the nerd. He knew Izuku wouldn’t have been able to get one of his own but he always refused and Masaru wasn’t a fan of it either. But there was a time where every time Izuku came over he’d go and look at the stars.

“Oh, yeah! There was actually just a meteorshower in the US a few days ago, I saw a bunch of the pictures and some videos! It was so cool, I wish I could have seen it! It’s hard to look at stars here since there's so much light pollution.” Izuku smiled a little and gave Katsuki’s hand a small squeeze, testing the affection. Though the way he smiled more when his hand was squeezed back was something too pure for this world, Katsuki was sure.

“Great.” When they got to their stop Katsuki got up and nearly pulled Izuku with him, he was excited, what can he say? He walked with the other down this road till they came up on a big building, the word ‘Planetarium’ across the front. He peeked over to see Izuku’s reaction when he saw it. He remembered Izuku going on and on about this place when it was opened years ago.

Izuku paused in his tracks, mouth agape as he looked over at Katsuki. “Oh my gosh! Kacchan! I almost forgot about this place!!! I remember wanting to go so bad as a kid!!” He jumped a little before starting to walk again, this time pulling Katsuki along.

“I know, Nerd, but it gets better.” Katsuki went in and took him to one of the observatory rooms, it wasn’t huge but a decent size. There were rows of seats and then three big round chairs in the middle. “It’s all ours.” Katsuki added, looking over as Izuku’s eyes lit up, finally they landed on Katsuki’s face.

“What do you mean?” Izuku asked in a small voice, he looked almost like he couldn’t believe this was real. He continued to walk into the room but his path moved him closer to Katsuki.

“I mean we have this room for the next hour and a half, I wanted to make sure we had the best seat in the house and that no extras would ruin it.” Katsuki pulled Izuku over to the big seats, he didn’t have to but he easily lifted Izuku up onto the seat before getting on next to him. He shifted and got a little comfortable before grabbing a remote and pressing a button. Suddenly the rounded ceiling lit up with stars, it was a video, because there was a subtle rotation to it.

Izuku’s eyes watched in awe, it was so beautiful, he’d never seen so many stars with his own eyes. Sure, it was a video but it looked so real and amazing. Then he noticed meteors falling, he gasped and looked at Katsuki with the biggest grin, it reminded him of when they were kids.

“Kacchan look! Meteorshower!!” Izuku sat up more as he watched. “Wow.. they’re amazing, so beautiful! Have you ever seen anything like it, Kacchan?”

“Reminds me of your freckles.” Katsuki said, his voice was low and soft, different from his usual tone.

That’s when Izuku realized Katsuki wasn’t even looking at the stars, he’d been looking at Izuku the whole time. Eyes soft, the tiniest curl on the corner of his lips. Izuku’s cheeks only got more red as he matched Katsuki’s gaze. He had a thought; it wouldn’t have mattered if the room was filled with screaming kids, it felt like they were the only two people in the world in this moment. He finally managed to pull his eyes away, looking away a little shy, just like in the movies. Izuku moved closer and leaned against Katsuki’s shoulder and looked back up at the stars.

Katsuki’s heart thundered in his chest, it felt lame and cheesy and a little annoying but he just ignored it. Having Izuku close like this felt perfect. He finally looked up at the stars, a cocky grin returning to his face. “This is from that meteorshower you talked about. In the US? They said the sky was perfect clearity for it.” He watched for a few more seconds before an idea popped in his head. “We should try and go see the next one, wherever it is. What do you think?”

Katsuki looked down, finding green eyes staring at him, he became very aware of just how close they were. He was about to ask again to see what Izuku thought of the idea but suddenly the other leaned up and pressed their lips together. Katsuki was surprised to say the least. It was gentle, and soft, chapped lips against worrily bitten ones. Somehow both participants seemed nervous but that didn’t stop it from being perfect.

Katsuki was the one to pull away, reaching up to touch the freckled and pink cheek. “I’ll take that as a yes.”

Izuku nodded and gave a small embarrassed laugh. “That sounds amazing Kacchan.”

They finished up their time in the room, laying back, holding hands and watching the stars. Izuku told Katsuki everything he knew about them and the galaxy and Katsuki listened to every word of it. He could listen to his nerd talk for days. After their time was up they went to a little outdoor cafe for dinner and headed back to the dorms. This time Izuku seemed to be glued to Katsuki’s side, no longer worrying about the ifs and buts, just focusing on how happy he was with Katsuki. He knew they’d figure out the rest. Katsuki thanks his lucky stars that Izuku gave him a chance.
