Hand in Hand

Summary:

Did she just grab the wrong person?!

Work Text:

It was loud and noisy; she had expected as much, but it was still overwhelming.  Shiemi still didn’t do well in crowds; she’d been able to cope at the Academy because she was able to take the less crowded hallways.  She was having a hard time coping in this situation.  If she had been by herself, well, she wouldn’t have there.

Rin had kept his promise about the two of them going to the carnival.  He been bashful and just as shy as she was when he suggested them going; she had just been so excited.  Now, there was just growing panic with every bump and jostle from a stranger.  Rin was still nervously chattering away without a clue.

It didn’t take long before one of her biggest fears for the day finally came to pass.  A crush of people came together and she lost sight of Rin.  Panicked, she thrust her hand were she had last seen him and clenched her hand the minute she felt fabric.

A surprised yelp reached Shiemi’s ears over the noise of the fair, and she felt incredibly foolish.  Oh.... I just grabbed the wrong person!

“S-shiemi?” a familiar voice squeaked.   It was Rin, and his face was an embarrassed beet red.  “W-what are you...?”

“I’m sorry!  I thought I was going to lose in you the crowd, so I just grabbed the back of your shirt without thinking!  I’m really sorry!”

Rin gave her one of his crooked smiles, “I-it’s okay, you just...” Rin blushed a deeper red, before he untangled her fingers and threaded his fingers through hers.  “Here! Now you won’t lose me, eh?”

Shiemi didn’t have time to respond before Rin tugged her through the crowd, but she decided she liked the feel of Rin’s hand in her’s.
