Are You Flirting With Me?

Summary:

Adrien has a question for Kagami that could change their relationship forever.

Work Text:

“You have a second?”

Kagami glanced up to find her sparring partner fidgeting beside her. His gaze never quite met hers as his hand came up to rub at his neck. Beads of sweat dotted his skin. Whether from their practice or his sudden case of nerves, she couldn’t tell.

Raising her brow, she nodded. “I have a spare moment. What’s on your mind?”

“Are you flirting with me?” he blurted, his cheeks growing crimson.

Her eyes widened at the blunt question before her lips spread into a slow smile. “What makes you believe I’ve been flirting with you, Agreste?”

She’d never seen a face grow redder than his before. Well, maybe Marinette’s, but it was easy to make the designer blush if you caught her on a good day. It’d become a bit of sport for Kagami to tease her new friend every chance she got, but she’d been assured Marinette didn’t mind.

Now, she wondered about Adrien. His preference hadn’t been easy to decipher, but then, he had a habit of trying to please others to the detriment of himself.

“My friends,” he finally admitted, breaking the brief silence between them. His face had lost some of its blushing state. His eyes had dropped lower, going to the floor and studying the cracked pattern beneath them. “They seem to think you’ve been flirting with me. No matter how much I try to deny it, they keep insisting, saying I’m oblivious.”

Well, they weren’t wrong, she thought. Her smile grew a bit more as she leaned into his space, something she didn’t often do. She preferred keeping her distance from others and typically respected their space in return, but Adrien’s demeanor begged her to go against her nature.

His eyes met hers for the first time in a while, something lurking in their depths that had her leaning just a bit closer. Did she dare call it hope?

“The better question here, Agreste, is if you would like me to be flirting with you or not.” She gave him a challenging look in the hopes he couldn’t read her thoughts as he so often did without trying.

Her smile threatened to let loose a small giggle at the way his mouth gaped the smallest bit at her statement. She had to admit she liked keeping him on his toes, constantly questioning whether things were as they seemed. It kept her safe from outright rejection.

“So, what is your answer? Do you want me to flirt with you? Or do you hope I haven’t been?” The prodding clanged against her ego, leaving her with a similar jangling of nerves she’d seen both Adrien and Marinette experience with their crushes in the past.

He covered his mouth as coughs wracked his body. They lasted a mere moment, but it was enough to make her question her resolve in learning the truth.

“Y-yes,” he whispered, his face growing quite red once more.

“Yes, what?”

“I want you to flirt with me,” he added, his ears glowing to match his cheeks.

She closed the distance between them, touching his cheek for the first time. With a wide smile, she whispered, “Then, I was flirting with you, you oblivious ray of sunshine.”
