Work Text:
Atsumu has liked Sakusa since 8th grade. At first it was because they were friends since childhood, although they weren't very close, but they often met because the place where they lived often held activities for children which made Sakusa and Atsumu have to join in.
They didn't go to the same elementary school, but when they were in junior high, they went to the same school and even had the same extracurricular, it's volleyball. Atsumu, who is an extrovert from the start, often starts a conversation with Sakusa who is more quiet and talks as much as he needs. But even so, Sakusa never told Atsumu to shut up even once.
In the beginning, why Atsumu liked Sakusa was because Sakusa, when there was something, he said to Atsumu more often than his other friends, that's why Atsumu felt happy and after a while he realized that he liked Sakusa.
When they entered high school, the two were in the same school again. Unfortunately, their extracurricular activities had to be separated because Sakusa preferred to join the Olympic team after being recruited from his junior high school exam scores. But that doesn't stop Atsumu, he's always looking for ways to be with Sakusa.
One afternoon, it rained. Atsumu just finished his extracurricular activities, his intention was to go home by bus but because the distance from the school gate to the bus stop was quite far and he didn't bring an umbrella, he decided to sit in front of the security post while waiting for the rain to stop which turned out to be quite long. Atsumu is already sleepy, maybe because of the cold effect too. His hands wrapped around the bag that he kept in his lap to reduce the cold feeling that hit his skin because he forgot not to bring his jacket that day and there was really no expectation of rain at all.
Atsumu's cheeks suddenly felt cold, someone was patting his cheeks with wet hands. When Atsumu looked up, it was Sakusa who stopped with his motorbike in front of him, complete with a raincoat from top to bottom and a helmet that Atsumu knew very well.
“Why haven't you come home yet?” Sakusa asked.
Atsumu shook his head, “I want to go to the bus stop but the rain is still heavy, Mi.”
Sakusa got off his motorbike, took off his helmet and kept it in the empty seat beside Atsumu. “Do you want to use my raincoat or my jacket?”
“Huh?”
“Go home with me.”
Atsumu thought for a second. If he's wearing a raincoat, Sakusa will get rained on. If he's wearing a jacket, he's the one in the rain.
“I don't have two raincoats, so your choice is to wear a raincoat or a jacket?” Sakusa asked once again while showing him the hoodie he took out of the bag.
Atsumu chose to take Sakusa's hoodie and put it on, he didn't care if he would get wet in the rain, the important thing was to go home with Sakusa.
Sakusa pulled the hoodie from his jacket to put it on Atsumu's head. “Use it so the rain doesn't hit your head directly.”
Atsumu speechless.
On the way home, no one spoke up because Atsumu, who usually talks a lot, is also lazy when he has to scream in the rain like this. Sakusa's jacket on his body was already wet from the rain.
“Atsumu, I like you.”
“HUUHH OMI WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?”
Sakusa smiled a little under his helmet, shaking his head.
“OMIII YOU SAID SOMETHING, DIDN'T YOU?”
“NOOOOOOO.”
“YOU'RE LIE ARE YOU??”
“I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING.”
Finally both of them laughed because they felt ridiculous shouting at each other in the rain.
Atsumu who was sitting behind Sakusa smiled because he heard clearly what Sakusa said. Sakusa who saw Atsumu smiling through the rearview mirror also smiled because he knew Atsumu must have heard what he just said.
Even though they both knew, they chose to pretend that nothing happened that day, even though the following days were different because they both fell in love.
