Zeen Mrala starred out into the void of space. She was on Starlight beacon, in one of the corridors in the Jedi housing part. Civilians were normally not allowed here, but because of her force ability and her close friendship with the Padawans that saved her on Trymant IV, they had made an exception for her. Zeen knew she would never become a real Jedi, the masters had made it clear from the beginning that she was far too old to start training. But they had also agreed that she should learn to control her abilities. To be honest, Zeen was kind of glad she wasn’t a Jedi. She had learned a lot about them and their rules, she admired their devotion to do good and to help people and knew that that was what she wanted to do herself, but she also learned that the Jedi closed themselves off from their feelings. That part, she didn’t want.
Zeen loved looking out into space, the endless Void, only interrupted by the occasional Vector flying past, helped her think, or wallow. She didn’t notice the person approaching her until she felt the hand on her shoulder.
“You look even more gloomy than usual.” Farzala laughed. “Did master Buck talk you into trying his new dumpling recipe again?” The Zygerrian managed to get a small chuckle out of Zeen.
“Just because you fall for that every time, doesn’t mean I’m that naïve.” The Mikkian retorted, her head tendrils lifting a bit. “I’m just… tired I guess.”
Farzala raised an eyebrow. “Sure.” He said, unconvinced, but to Zeen’s relief he didn’t push it and instead changed the topic.
“Lula missed you at dinner.” His voice was casual, like he was talking about the weather, but Zeen could feel a mischievous energy behind those words.
“Did she now?” Zeen tried to sound indifferent despite the fact that her heard had jumped at the mention of Lula, and despite knowing that her head tendrils were twitching. Thankfully Farzala either couldn’t read Zeen like Lula could, or he didn’t notice. “I wasn’t hungry, so I was reading in the Archives.”
It wasn’t a total lie, she had been in the archives, Farzala didn’t need to know that Zeen had spend the last few days avoiding Lula. He didn’t need to know that her heart fluttered every time she laid eyes on the beautiful dark skinned human girl, that she lost herself in those dark brown eyes.
“Alright.” The Padawan suddenly said, grabbed Zeen’s arm and pulled her along.
“What…?”
“I’m taking you to Lula. I’ve had enough of you two, what ever it is with you two, you’re going to talk it out now!”
Zeen didn’t even try to struggle, as he pulled her in the direction of Lula’s room. Once they were at the door, Farzala opened it, gently pushed Zeen inside and locked the door.
Lula looked up from the datapad she was holding. “Zeen.” She said surprised.
The intercom at the doop beeped. “I’ve overwritten the door controls.” Came Farzalas voice from the little speaker “I’ll let you out in an hour or so.” Another beep and the com went silent.
“What was that about?” the dark-haired human asked.
“Not sure, he said something about us talking it out, whatever that means.” Zeen lied and immediately Lula’s eyes narrowed. She cursed herself and her stupid head tendrils that always betrayed her thoughts.
“Zeen.” Lula said serious. “Have you been avoiding me?”
“What? No!”
“Zeen I can tell that you are lying! I’m sorry if I somehow offended you with something I did. Please be assured that what ever it was, it was unintentional. But I consider you one of my closest friends and you avoiding me makes me really sad.”
“It wasn’t… It’s not anything you did. It’s me. I’ve been trying to avoid you because… because I like you.” The Mikkian buried her face in her hands, to hide the embarrassment on her pink face and to not look at Lula.
“I like you too Zeen, I just said that I consider you one of my closest friends!” Lula said confused
“No.” came Zeen’s voice through her fingers. “Not like that.”
“Then what… Oh.” It took a moment for Zeen’s words to sink into Lula’s brain. “You mean romantically.”
Zeen nodded as the human girl looked at her with a dumbstruck expression.
“I mean… I… I…” Lula stuttered. “I can’t deny that I… that I haven’t thought about you in that way too.”
Zeen looked up, now it was Lula hiding her face in her hands.
“But the masters say we are not supposed to feel such things.”
“But why?” Zeen asked, taking a step forward. “How can this be a bad thing? how can it be bad that my heart jumps from happiness every time I see you?”
Zeen blushed, she didn’t mean to reveal that last bit. Lula looked up at her.
“I don’t know. The masters just always say it, it’s a rule as old as the order itself.”
“Then maybe it’s too old.” Zeen whispered. “Maybe… maybe the Jedi should go with the time and review their old rules instead of blindly following, because this…” She took another step closer, so that they were only centimeters apart. “this could never be a bad thing.” Taking all her courage, she boldly leaned forward, pressing her lips on Lula’s.
For a short moment it was as if time itself stood still, nothing else mattered but the feeling of Lula’s lips on hers. It was like everything she had ever wanted in life had become true at once and if she were to die right now, she would do so happily.
Sadly, that moment ended right as Zeen realized what she just did.
Quickly Zeen pulled back, embarrassed that she did that, but before she could step back, she felt Lula’s hands pulling her closer again. When they kissed for the second time, it was pure bliss. Zeen’s happiness was only increased by the happiness she could feel radiating of Lula.
Lula put their foreheads together, cupping Zeen’s face. “You’re right.” She whispered. “This could never be a bad thing.”
They Kissed a third time, and a fourth, and a lot more. They only stopped when the door chimed again. They separated just in time before Farzala strode through the door, a smug expression on his face.
“Have you two talked it out?”
The girls nodded.
“Good! Let’s grab Dinner, I’m starving.”
