Work Text:
Olivia was pretty sure that Elliot was insane when he had invited her out for dinner and drinks last week.
Surely he had to know that it was a bad idea.
Especially since the last time they had had dinner and drinks together they had wound up on his couch, making out like a bunch of teenagers.
It had only been a call from Fin that had interrupted them and brought them back down to Earth.
But lord knows where things would have gone if that hadn’t happened.
Which is why Olivia had promised herself that if she was going to go out with Elliot she was going to behave herself.
“I’ll just take a water.” The waitress looked at her like she had seven heads when the words left her mouth, undoubtedly confused because she was the same woman who had taken their endless alcohol orders the week before.
“Alright doll, whatever you say.” But she gave her knowing look just the same and Olivia simply smiled, her gaze returning to Elliot as she smiled.
“Water?” He was confused, so very confused, and she loved it. “When have you ever ordered just water?”
“There’s a first time for everything isn’t there?” She folded her hands in her lap and leaned back in her chair, watching as he raised an eyebrow at her.
“It’s a date, Liv, a glass of wine wouldn’t hurt.” Oh, so they were dating now, that’s what this was.
“I’ll stick to my water, El, but thank you.” It was safer for them both if at least one of them was sober when they left here.
Especially when they both had a kid waiting for them at home.
It’s not like they’d have the privacy they had had last week.
“What did I do wrong now?” He looked defeated and she simply chuckled, leaning forward and letting her right hand land on top of his. “Did I screw up?”
“No.” It wasn’t his fault, not entirely anway, she had been a willing participant after all. “I just feel like last time taught us both something very important.”
“Which is?” She chuckled as she entwined her fingers with his.
“That we cannot control ourselves after we’ve had a few drinks.” The fire in his eyes and the smirk on his lips was enough to confirm her sentiment. “See, you’re already thinking about it and you haven’t even had a sip of her beer yet.”
“Would you freak out if I told you I’m pretty much always thinking about it?” She rolled her eyes as she swallowed.
This could get very dangerous, very fast.
But thankful their waitress had great timing, arriving just before Olivia could say something that would get her in trouble.
After she left they sat there in silence, staring at each other from across the small table, neither one of them wanting to be the first to break.
Finally she let out a sigh, causing him to smile in response.
“Wanna get out of here?” His question was absurd and she couldn’t help but snort at it.
“We haven’t even had dinner yet.” And she was starving, so he wasn’t about to deny her food.
“That’s fine.” Easy for him to say, he had probably had two other meals that day, whereas she, had had nothing more than a bagel.
And that had been twelve hours ago.
“This is a date, Elliot, like you said.” He scoffed at her throwing his words back at him. “The least you can do is feed me before you attempt to ravage me like some wild animal.”
“Touche.” She watched as he chuckled, his hand tugging on hers as he tried to drag her closer. “You can order a drink though, Liv, I promise I’ll behave.”
“I don’t trust you when you say that.” She knew better, after twenty three years he couldn’t keep his hands to himself, not that she could blame him, she was almost just as bad. “Besides, it’s not like we’re going anywhere after this.”
“We’re not?” He looked offended and she almost felt a sense of pride.
It was nice knowing that he was just as addicted to being with her as she was with him.
“The boys, El?” Had he forgotten about their respective sons already? “They’re both at home, our separate homes…”
“Fuck.” Yeah, fuck.
“So you have to behave, regardless of how this evening ends.” He wasn’t happy about that idea and she could tell.
“We still have a car, a rather spacious car…” Shaking her head she let out a sigh, her eyes widening as his words hit her.
“I am not, under any circumstances, making out with you in the back of your work vehicle.” Which is exactly what he had driven them to dinner in.
“Fine.” He crossed his arms over his chest and pouted like a toddler and she laughed.
“That’s the same face Noah makes when I tell him no more TV.” She couldn’t help but tease him, especially when he made himself such an easy target.
“Just, drink your water…” He was so cute when he was like this and it made her heart swell a little.
She couldn’t believe she had almost missed out on all of this, again.
Maybe she could make it up to him.
Later, though.
Because right now she was enjoying teasing him just a little too much.
