Work Text:
It was a chilly night at the location they were filming In The Soop. The cool breeze from the lake blowing in Jungkook’s face, causing the loose strands of his hair to sway in his forehead. The fire was prepped in an attempt of the members to warm themselves, although he himself wasn’t feeling cold, and he finds himself wandering around and looking for something to keep busy with.
He strolls around the area, stopping by the fence to admire the dark sky and the minimal light from the moon bouncing off the lake. "Pretty," he grins to himself as he observes the night sky, absorbing everything the scenery has to give.
"Oh right," As if there was a comical light bulb that appeared & lit right at that moment, he quickly made his way to the floating house and took the guitar he brought.
He settled right onto the bench overlooking the lake and slowly strummed the guitar strings, thinking of which song to play. He’s been practicing a lot recently, teaching himself how to play the guitar and even managed to play bits of a song.
He saw Hoseok coming over his way to the bench and commented, “I need to practice.” as Hoseok sits down next to him. The strum of the guitar to the notes of “Lost Stars” by Adam Levine filled the surroundings as Jungkook hummed the melody.
Anyone who would be lucky enough to be Hoseok at that exact same moment would do the same as he did, he looked fondly at Jungkook as he continued to play Lost Stars. Soon enough, Namjoon approached them while Hoseok makes a comment about Jungkook playing Lost Stars for them.
“He’s good. He said he’ll play Lost Stars for us on the last night,” he jokes and Jungkook immediately reacts. “I didn’t say anything about that!”
The trio spent some time with each other as the fire continuously crackles in front of them as Jungkook practices, occasionally playing the guitar jokingly just for laughs. They all enjoy each other's company and Jungkook was grateful they're able to just relax and do things they're not usually able to. It's kind of like a vacation, but not really because it's still work, but more fun. He's surrounded by people he loves and he couldn't ask for more than to hang out with them on a peaceful night under the night sky. Sure, they've done these things before, but it's been a long time so this has been a refreshing time for all of them. He got lost in his thoughts while two of his hyungs were laughing about something, but was cut off when Hoseok suddenly stood up to excuse himself.
"Ya, ya! Wait, I have to go check on Yoongi hyung. Have you seen him?"
Jungkook snapped out of his aimless gaze on the fire and nodded, "Yoongi hyung? I think he's probably in the van. I think he said he'll work on something after dinner."
"Oke! See you later Jungkookie!" Hoseok bids farewell along with Namjoon, saying he'll go as well to wash up.
And once again, he was alone with the night sky and the lake. He was about to stand up when he felt the urge to continue practicing his guitar. "Lost Stars" seemed to be a fitting song for the night and he can't seem to get the song out of his head. There's not that many stars in the sky, but he can see a few flickers of light so he chose to stay a but more anyway. It's kinda fun to have some alone time in this time of night.
"Please, don't see just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies," Jungkook hums the rest of the lyrics, paying more attention to the chords. Jungkook doesn't notice Seokjin listening while carefully approaching to not disturb him. He smiles to himself while staring at the lake, listening to Jungkook. hardworking as ever. that's the jungkook i know, he gazes once again to the younger eagerly strumming to get the notes right, and love.
His daydreaming—well, in this case, nightdreaming?—with the perfect themesong was cut off when Jungkook abruptly stopped when he got the wrong chord. "But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark— aishhh," despite his slight frustration, he continued to strum and Seokjin felt it was okay to step in.
"Well, you look-" Seokjin paused as Jungkook looked up from strumming the guitar and twisting his body to look at the sudden voice, his big doe eyes peeking from behind his bangs, "very boyfriend-y."
Jungkook chuckles as Seokjin makes his way to him, "very boyfriend-y? What does that even mean?" shaking his head, he lifts his guitar from his lap and taps the space on his right side gesturing for Seokjin to sit beside him.
Seokjin shrugs, "I don't know. Just- the vibes?"
"The vibes???" Jungkook laughs at the statement and Seokjin rolls his eyes to playfully smack Jungkook in the arm. "Are you just going to keep repeating everything I say?"
"Well maybe it's because you want me to be your boyfriend, hyung."
Rolling his eyes away from Jungkook's teasing grin, "Shut up. Maybe you want me to be." Jungkook nibbled on his bottom lip and slightly cleared his throat, setting the guitar back down on its original position in his lap.
"So when are you going to play Lost Stars for us?" Seokjin asks.
"I just did."
"Ya! You know what I'm talking about. Hoseokie mentioned you playing it for us on the last night. Well, are you?" he eyed the guitar and raised his eyebrows, "maybe a little sing-along for us and ARMY, huh?"
"Ah, no. Besides, I need practice, I-" Jungkook confusedly looks at Seokjin with his eyebrows crossed, "What-how long were you standing there? That was like, an hour ago."
"Not that long." he chuckles, "I just came over here. I overheard you guys earlier from the tent while I was looking for something."
Jungkook slowly nodded with his mouth slightly agape saying ahh and settles his gaze on the guitar, fidgeting with the strap.
"So, well?" Seokjin moved over to the small folding camping chair in front of Jungkook so now they're facing each other. He scoots the chair closer to Jungkook and covers himself with his jacket and leans backwards on the chair as if he was waiting for something.
"What well?"
"You said you need practice, you can just continue what you were doing earlier. Like, just pretend hyung isn't here." He grins as he further makes himself comfortable on the chair.
"Seokjin hyung. You know you can just say it if you want me to serenade you or something." Jungkook rolls his eyes but his toothy grin stays on his face anyways and he puts back the strap of his guitar on him.
"That wasn't what I meant but I guess you do you. It's been a long time since I've been serenaded with a song anyway. Wait," he squints his eyes on Jungkook as if he were thinking, "was I ever serenaded before?"
"I don't know, why are you asking me? Who cares, you're just probably too old to remember", the younger teases.
"I came here to be serenaded, not to argue with your smartass. Now gimme"
"Hmmm, so you do want to be serenaded?" Jungkook teases once more, enjoying his hyung's smiley face.
"I- ya! YES, whatever just go practice or something."
"Fine, fine. I'll serenade you-" seokjin playfully glares, "or something already." Jungkook laughs. "What song would you like?"
"I don't know. Surprise me, I guess."
Jungkook taps on the guitar as he thinks of what to play. He clears his throat right before proceeding to strum the guitar. "This is a work in progress but I'd like for you to hear it now, so," An unfamiliar melody fills the air as Seokjin watches Jungkook strum the guitar. "Still With You, by JK." he grins to himself. "It's a song I'm working on. For ARMY. But I'm borrowing it for a while and say it's for you."
"With no light in the darkroom
I shouldn't get used to it
But I'm used to it again"
He hums parts of the song, and despite the fact that it is unfinished, it's comforting.
"We laugh together, we cry together
I guess these simple feelings were everything to me"
Jungkook meets Seokjin's gaze as he fondly watches and listens to him. From another person's point of view, it's good enough to pass as a scene from a movie
When will it be?
If I face you again
I will look into your eyes
And say I missed you"
Jungkook felt like he was melting so he purposefully broke eye contact and focused on the strings, while the other observed the night sky.
"By the time this mist clears
I'll be running with my feet wet
Give me a hug then"
The other misses how Jungkook looks at him as he sings.
"That moon looks lonely
Feels like it's crying in the bright night sky
Even though I knew it was going to be morning one day
I wanted to stay in your sky like a star
Every day, every moment
If I had known this was gonna happen
I would have kept more
When will it be?
If I face you again
I will look into your eyes
And say I missed you
We may not be on the same page
But I want to walk this path with you
Still with you"
With love. He looks at him with love.
Seokjin has a fond smile plastered across his face and puts his hand on his chest as soon as Jungkook finishes. "Ah, JK. That was beautiful. Thank you Kook-ah."
"Ah wait." Jungkook settles the guitar down on the bench as Seokjin waits. Jungkook bends down slightly so their faces were close. Not that close. But close. Jungkook shakes his head to clear his hair from his eyes then looks at Seokjin with a smile as if he were planning something. "Hyung," he starts. Seokjin's eyebrows raised slightly.
"Seokjin hyung." The same smiley face Jungkook had got a bit serious and the older chuckles, "whaaat?"
Jungkook leans away but maintains the gaze he had on Seokjin, the seriousness of his face causing Seokjin to be a little confused. He reached out to hold Seokjin's hand, to which the other didn't show any hesitation at all.
"Hyung." Seokjin's had enough and rolled his eyes playfully, "yes?"
"Will you be my boyfriend?"
The question that left Jungkook's mouth left the older bewildered. It was just sudden and-
"You brat." He rolled his eyes and smacked Jungkook's knee with his free hand and playfully tossed the hand he was holding, "We're already dating, you idiot."
"Oh, are we?" Jungkook laughed and reached out once again to hold Seokjin's hand. "Kidding, kidding! It's just usually asked right after serenading someone, you know?"
"Yeah, you watch too many shows." Seokjin paused to sit right next to Jungkook, "It was a great song though. It's beautiful. People are gonna love it."
"Yeah? Thanks, hyung." He snuggled right onto the older's shoulder, hugging his right arm.
Jungkook starts to close his eyes. "I saw you, by the way," Seokjin hummed in response, "while I was singing you were looking at the sky, looking all emotional- be honest, you were acting like an actor in a cheesy movie scene weren't you?" Jungkook teases and he gains a slight pinch to his side.
"Hyung! Stop, stop!" He was full-on laughing while Jin attempts to tickle him from his side. "You looked pretty. Like the moon. My moon."
"Were you always this cheesy?"
"Hey you started it. You asked to be serenaded." Jungkook snuggled more closer, "Speaking of moon, by the way, isn't that the title of your solo song?"
"Mhmm."
"So when are you gonna serenade me?"
"No." Seokjin's response didn't satisfy Jungkook so he tried to push more. By wiggling Seokjin.
"Hyuuuuuuungggg-"
"Fine, fine!" he chuckles as Jungkook resumes their original position, "you know you act like a brat sometimes?" A smack from Jungkook.
"Kidding! Kinda," he paused to smile down at Jungkook,"but sure."
"Anything for you, Kookie."
