Work Text:
His heart is aching.
Not physically, but there’s a heavy feeling of sadness taking over his body.
His hands are shaking. He can’t understand why, but he shakes nonetheless. Right at that moment, when the excruciating sadness is about to be released through his eyes, he hears the voice.
“Shhh, don’t you worry, Minie. I’m here, you’ll be fine.” The voice whispers softly.
They continue to make shhh sounds until it turns into humming. The voice hums the softest, sweetest, most comforting lullaby Jimin has ever heard. It has no lyrics, it’s just a pure melody being hummed by a faceless man with a deep, soothing, and angelical voice. The only thing he can see is a man with dark and fluffy hair, his voice sending a feeling of comfort and peace directly into Jimin’s worried mind. He can’t understand why he feels that pain, but whatever he was suffering about, the faceless man with a deep voice took care of it.
The sadness is replaced by calmness. He feels safe. He’ll be fine.
Then he wakes up.
💭
It is not the first time Jimin dreams about that faceless man singing him that same lullaby. In fact, he’s used to dreaming about him whenever something bad happens in his life. It’s always the same thing: that same phrase, that same lullaby, that same man. The first time he can remember having that dream was when he was five years old and fell from his bicycle. Jimin was so upset because he broke his bike seat that it took a real toll on his mind, to the point that some strange man had to come to him in a dream to say that everything would be fine. Strangely, he believed the man’s words and woke up feeling better.
He dreamt about it when he was 12 and had his first heartbreak.
He dreamt about it when he was 13 and lost his grandmother.
He dreamt about it when he was 15 and his parents divorced.
Right now, Jimin’s 21 and struggling with the fact he’s an adult who lives away from his mother’s wings. He moved from his home city to Seoul to go to college and pursue his dream to major in dance. He loves the city, he loves being privileged enough to have his parents support him to study something he truly feels passionate about, but he doesn’t love being away from all his friends and family. He’s made a couple of friends at college, sure, he has good social skills and can keep a conversation with anyone, but it’s the first time in his life that he’s living by himself.
Well, to be fair, he’s not completely alone. He shares a teeny tiny apartment with a great guy he met when he was trying to find someone nice to share a place with. The guy’s name is Jungkook and he’s majoring in dance just like Jimin. They get along really well, but that’s not enough to keep Jimin from missing his mom, his childhood house, his bedroom, his life back in Busan.
So, for that reason, he’s been dreaming about the faceless man a lot. Like. A really fucking lot.
That’s not a problem for him, though. In the beginning, Jimin felt really strange to dream about someone he had never seen in his life. He can’t see the man’s face in his dreams, but he’s sure he never heard that voice in real life, more than anything, he’s sure he’s never heard that lullaby. Once he asked his mother if she had ever sung that song to him, but as he expected, the answer was ‘no’.
For a long time, whenever he had that dream, he’d wake up trying to understand why he dreamt of that. Who’s that man? What’s that music? Why do I always dream about this when something bad happens?
After so many years, Jimin has made peace with that buzzing curiosity that would always nag inside his mind asking why, why, why. He accepted the fact he doesn’t know the man and that he would always come to him in his dreams to calm him down, and, honestly, it’s not that bad. Jimin actually found some sort of comfort in those dreams. He would always wake up feeling calmer, safer, and peaceful. As much as he’s a bit skeptical about religious things, he could not shake away the feeling of having an angel just for him—whatever that meant. It didn’t feel religious to think of that, it just felt like someone was there for him. Someone good, someone that wanted him to be okay.
“The faceless angel again?” Jungkook asks, filling his mug with black coffee.
Jimin’s still trying to wake up, his face all swollen from sleep. He rubs his eyes and throws his body on the couch as if he’s not minutes from being late to class. “I’ve been dreaming so much about him it’s not even a surprise anymore. I swear, I think I’ve had this dream more times during this year than I had throughout my whole life.”
Jungkook walks from the kitchen to the couch, which is just 3 steps away since their apartment is as tiny as Jimin’s hand. Apparently, he’s all set to get out of the apartment and go to the college campus, but Jimin feels so tired that he’s seriously reconsidering if he should make the effort to put his clothes on and sit in a room full of people hearing about boring things. He loves dancing, but theoretical classes are not his favorite thing in the world.
“Do you want me to wait for you? I don’t mind being late.” Jungkook suggests stretching his arm to play with Jimin’s messy hair.
“Nah, you can go. I’m not even sure if I will attend any classes today.”
“Okay then. Call me if you want some company to have lunch with.”
Jungkook puts his mug on the sink right after that, gets his backpack and keys, and takes off. Jimin feels lucky to have such a caring roommate, who’s been going through all the same things as Jimin, but apparently has been dealing with that homesickness much better.
Jimin stays on the couch for at least 30 more minutes before he gets up and decides to take a walk to cheer himself up. He always felt the need to breathe fresh hair whenever he’s not feeling like himself. So, he changes to comfy baggy clothes, puts on his headphones, presses play on his favorite playlist, and just walks around the streets until his head’s less clouded.
It’s not like Jimin is sad, he’s not. He’s just… struggling. Life can be a struggle and that doesn’t mean you’re not happy with wherever you’re at. He has to constantly remind himself that he’s not ungrateful for the opportunities he has because sometimes it feels as if he’s complaining too much.
After an hour or so of wandering through Seoul’s streets, Jimin thinks it is a good idea to finally eat something. He spots a new coffee shop across the street he’s never been to, so he decides to get in. He’s always loved coffee shops, especially after he moved to Seoul. The smell of coffee, fresh baked cookies, and the ambiance reminds him of home. Sometimes Jimin likes to just sit by himself at a random café and enjoy his own company amongst dozens of strangers. For some reason, today seems like a good day to do exactly that.
He orders a simple black coffee and a slice of vanilla cake filled with blueberry jam, one of his favorites. He sits in the corner of the place and starts to enjoy the moment. Taking a long walk was a good call, he thinks. Jimin feels lighter, truly believing he’ll be fine.
The coffee shop is not packed, there are only a few people in the waiting line to order their coffees and one other sitting three tables away from him. A low chill song is playing in the background, so it’s even better for him to just relax and eat his cake.
But that relaxing moment is cut off when he hears a baby crying.
The baby is not the problem, much less the fact he’s crying. Jimin knows it’s normal to have crying babies in public places and he’s fine with it, but what puts him out of his relaxing moment is a man’s voice trying to calm the baby down.
“Shhh, don’t you worry, Minie. I’m here, you’ll be fine.” He hears the man saying.
Jimin’s mind starts to work fast. Wait. No. Wait. Wait. I know this voice.
And when he thinks hearing that phrase and that voice was enough to make his heart nearly stop, he hears the man humming. It starts softly and very low, but Jimin could recognize that lullaby from miles away. It’s the same one he hears in his dreams since he was 5.
The voice that is humming it makes Jimin’s whole body tremble. It’s the same voice. The same fucking voice. Humming the same fucking lullaby. Saying the same fucking thing. All Jimin’s able to think is what the hell is going on?
He wants to get up and just get out of this place, but he freezes at the spot. He can’t tear his gaze away from the man and the baby. The man’s still humming, walking from one side to another trying to stop the baby’s crying.
It’s just when the man finally lulls the baby to sleep that Jimin snaps out of the trance he was in and quickly bursts out of the coffee shop. He’s shaking so bad he doesn’t know what to do. Should he call his mom and tell her what just happened? Should he call Hoseok, his best friend, to talk about it? Should he call Jungkook and ask him to pick him up?
He doesn’t know. So he just walks.
And he walks at least one hour every day for the next three weeks thinking about the faceless angel, who’s not faceless anymore and apparently is an actual human being.
💭
Jimin tries to think about multiple explanations for what happened. Maybe he never had those dreams, he just had a Deja-vú. No, he wrote about those dreams in his journals several times during his life. Maybe he misheard the whole scene and the man’s voice was not like the faceless man. No, he’s sure he heard it right. He’s sure it’s the same voice. Minie is a common nickname, right? Maybe that’s how the guy calls his son, it’s okay. But why would he have the exact same voice as the faceless man and say the exact same phrase? Maybe he’s just going crazy, that’s a good explanation. Yes, let’s stick with this option.
The thing is, Jimin stops dreaming about the faceless man. A lot of bad things happen in the next few months and the faceless man is not there anymore to put him at ease. But honestly, at this point, the last thing he would feel was at ease if he ever dreamt with that guy again.
He tells all his friends about what happened and they all say the same thing “Are you sure it’s really the same voice? This seems a bit… crazy,” and he can’t blame anyone for asking it, he agrees it is crazy.
“Hoseok, I’m telling you, I think I might be on the verge of going crazy or something,” Jimin tells his best friend over a phone call. It’s probably the thousandth time he’s calling Hoseok to talk about the same thing but he’s his childhood best friend. He trusts him more than anyone to talk about the most insane thing that has ever happened in his life.
“You’re exaggerating,” His friend mumbles. “I still think you misheard the whole thing, but I don’t think you’re going crazy, Jimin. These things can happen to anyone.”
“But—It’s not just the voice. It’s the whole thing!” He sighs, “I’ve never seen the faceless man’s face because, well, he’s faceless, but his hair… It’s just like the guy from the coffee shop.”
“Dark and fluffy? Wow, that’s really not common at all,” Hoseok says with a mocking tone. “Jimin, just please breathe. I swear to God I’m very close to taking my father’s car and driving myself to Seoul just to hug you. Maybe kick your ass a bit.”
At that, Jimin tosses his head back laughing. He really doesn’t know what he would do with his life if he didn’t have Hoseok to hold his hand, even if it was through the phone. As much as he really misses seeing his friend’s face, he doesn’t want to feel like a burden to anyone.
“No, please. You have so much going on right now, don’t get out of your way just to take care of your grown-ass best friend. I’ll be fine.”
Truthfully, he manages to keep his promise to Hoseok and stays calmer for the next few weeks. He understands he can’t do much about that situation besides living with it. He sure will never forget that scene, but he can’t keep his mind stuck in it. He has to move on.
And he does. Until he sees the man and the baby again.
💭
It’s been three months since that day in the coffee shop and Jimin is doing much better. Not just about the whole faceless angel situation, but about everything else in his life. He finally feels he’s maturing and dealing better with being away from the people he loves and grew up with. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that he made new friends and everything seems more exciting now. He’s been going to more parties, going out with his new friends, engaging on a few projects at college, and to recover from all the social interaction he’s been having in the past month, he still likes to walk around the city by himself.
On one Wednesday he’s walking around a park near his college campus and that’s when he spots him. Or should he say, he spots them.
The man has his hair up in a tiny ponytail, only one lock of hair falling down his eyes. He’s wearing round-shaped glasses, but even with that, Jimin recognizes it is him. He’s holding that same baby in his arms, who is not crying this time and is carefully watching as the man eats ice cream.
Jimin immediately stops walking. He’s not as nervous as he was on that day at the coffee shop, but he still doesn’t know how to react.
He notices the man seems a bit clumsy trying to balance a million things at the same time: a melting ice cream, a bag, the baby’s stroller, and, of course, the baby itself. Jimin has a nagging feeling that he should approach him and offer some help, but he doesn’t know if he wants to do that because he is a good guy and likes to help others, or if this is a way to just… meet him. A few weeks ago, the thought of running into that guy again was terrifying, but right now, he just wants to get close. He needs to get close.
Following his instincts, Jimin walks towards the man. Throughout the whole twenty seconds he takes to go from where he was standing to where the guy is, he keeps thinking if he’s insane. Why am I doing this? What I am expecting will happen? I’ll tell him about my dreams and he’ll believe me? You should just go, Jimin. Really, just turn around and go. But he needs help. I should help him, right? My mom always said I should help people in need. He needs help. I need to h
“Hey! Hi, I’m sorry! Can you please pick up that toy for me?” Jimin is snapped out of his thoughts when he hears the man’s voice talking to him.
Oh?
Oh!
“Hm—I...” Jimin fights to not choke on his words. “Yeah.. yes! sure!”
He picks up the baby’s toy and hands it to the guy, scared he’ll notice how wide-eyed he looks.
His mind is buzzing with curiosity. He wants to ask him something, he wants to hear his voice a little bit more, but first, he has to get his shit together and try not to look so freaked out.
Words come back to his mind and Jimin swallows hard before letting them come out from his mouth, “Do you need help? I can hold the bag for you while you... finish your ice cream, hm—I mean, if that’s okay with you.” He runs a hand through his hair in discomfort.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to disturb you,” the man answers with a sheepish grin.
It’s the first time Jimin can truly see the man’s face. He had seen it before, but right now he really sees it. He sees his soft features, his adorable boxy smile, and the cute tiny mole on his nose. It makes sense he has such an angelic voice, he truly looks like an angel.
Jimin shakes his head showing there’s nothing to worry about, so the man hands him the baby’s bag, looking much more comfortable as soon as he doesn’t have the bag’s weight hanging on his shoulder.
“I’m Taehyung, by the way. And this little guy here is Minjae.” He points to the baby. “Well, his name is Minjae but I call him Minie. Suits him better.”
Minie.
Jimin gives a sweet smile at both Taehyung and Minie and, God, he hopes he is as good at acting as he is at dancing. He feels his heart beating a little faster and wonders how is that even possible.
He shifts his weight from one leg to the other and does the best he can to keep this conversation going as a normal person. “Minie! That’s my nickname too!” he yelps. “But my name is Jimin.”
Taehyung turns his gaze from Minjae’s face to Jimin’s eyes when he says “Minie? Hm, you do look like a Minie.”
Jimin feels his legs almost giving up on him and letting him fall to the ground.
How old are you, Jimin? Twelve? Breathe. Jimin thinks before saying another word.
“Is he your son?”
“God, no! I’m too broke to be a father.” Taehyung frowns his forehead as he maneuvers Minie from one arm to another. “He’s my friends’ son and I babysit for them whenever they need. I mean, I need the extra money and Minie is a really great company.” He looks at the baby, “Right, baby? Do you like to spend time with uncle Taetae?” Minie’s answer appears on a very toothless and drooly smile.
They stay there for no longer than three minutes doing small talk when Minie starts to look a little sleepy. Taehyung instantly hardens his grip on the baby, slightly balancing him.
“I have to go, it’s time for Minie’s nap,” Taehyung says as Jimin hands him back the bag he was holding. “But thank you for the help, it was very kind of you to offer.”
Jimin can do nothing but stare as the man walks away with the baby. He wonders if he’ll ever see him again—more than that, he wonders if he’ll ever dream of him again.
💭
When Jimin tells his friend about what happened at the park, they all get a little bit worried about how he’ll deal with it. Jimin understands where their worry is coming from, but he also thinks he’s grown enough to know what he’s doing with his life. Sure, he still thinks Taehyung is the same man that he has dreamed about since he was a kid, but that’s not exactly why he can’t stop thinking about him. Aside from his curiosity to get to know him to satisfy his need to hear his voice, Taehyung really seems like a great guy that Jimin could be friends with. He’s willing to forget about the whole faceless angel situation if for some reason he meets Taehyung again.
“See, that’s why you keep complaining you have no money. Every time we come to the supermarket you spend all of yours buying unhealthy frozen food,” Jimin declares to Jungkook as the younger one picks up a not very healthy amount of boxes of every frozen food he sees in front of him. “The worst part is that you’ll be poor and s ick! This doesn’t even taste good, Jungkook.”
Jungkook simply ignores Jimin’s lecture and places all the boxes in their shopping trolley, moving to the snacks section.
Jimin does the same and moves on to find something to eat on that same night. He’s drifting through his own thoughts when he hears someone calling his name. At first, he thinks it’s Jungkook saying something to annoy him, but when he turns his head to the side he’s facing no one other than Taehyung himself.
“Shit!” Jimin startles, “I’m sorry, sorry!”
Taehyung laughs at Jimin’s reaction and takes one step back, “Did I scare you? I’m so sorry!”
“No, I was just—I thought it was my friend,” he says as he puts one can of tuna back on the shelf. As always, Jimin’s heart is beating so fast he doesn’t think it is normal. Taehyung’s presence still makes him shiver. Of course, how would you react if someone you always have dreams about appeared to you in real life? But as much as it’s crazy, Jimin feels that same need he felt when he wanted to help Taehyung out at the park. He wants him around, he wants to get to know him better.
An awkward silence hovers between them for a few seconds before Taehyung breaks it again.
“Do you live nearby?”
“Yes, I live like… 5 minutes away from here.” Jimin answers as he observes Taehyung’s face paying so much attention to what he’s saying. It’s so unfair to the human population that that cute nose mole and that boxy smile are part of one single person. “What about you? I see you’re not with Minie today.”
“I have so many errands to run today I wish someone would babysit me . Seriously, I need a hug,” Taehyung jokes. “He’s with his parents today. And oh! I live not far from here too, I wonder how we never ran into each other before.”
At that, Jimin only nods with a grin and answers a silent me too inside his own head. They keep talking for a few minutes and that’s when they discover that, besides living in the same neighborhood, Taehyung’s majoring in music at the same university as Jimin. That nervous feeling that was buzzing at the pit of Jimin’s stomach goes away and he feels much more comfortable as the conversation goes on. He can’t quite pinpoint why, but Taehyung has this thing about him. Something that draws Jimin in.
Right after they say their goodbyes, Jimin is on his way to meet Jungkook at the cashier. “Hey,” Taehyung calls after him, making Jimin turn around. “I don’t know if you’re aware, but next Thursday we’ll have a small sort of music exhibition at our campus. It’s open for the public… so... If you want to come,” he suggests.
“I guess I’ll see you there, then.”
💭
Jimin feels like he has come to terms with everything that was bugging him about the man in his dreams and Taehyung. He doesn’t want to think about that anymore. Taehyung is someone that he truly likes and wants to get close to, there’s no reason to keep thinking about those dreams. Besides that, it really is too crazy. How is that even possible? Probably he heard all wrong. As Hoseok said, mistakes can happen. Those kinds of things can happen to anyone.
Thursday comes and Jimin’s on his way to Taehyung’s music exhibition. He still thinks it’s funny that they literally study at the same college, at the same campus, live in the same neighborhood, and never have seen each other.
When he enters the room where the music exhibition’s being held, he can’t immediately find Taehyung, so he decides to take a look around. The place is filled with so many talented people showing not just different genres of music, but there are also lots of paintings throughout the whole place. The room is very big and it’s organized in sections according to genres and instruments, having lots of colors and beautiful diverse paintings and drawings all over the place.
Jimin first spots a beautiful moon painting pinned to the wall at one of the corners of the room. He walks towards it and when he gets a little bit closer, he recognizes the person that is playing violin in front of the painting.
It is him.
Taehyung has his eyes closed as he’s visibly emerged on his task. He’s passionately playing Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy, a piece originally composed on a piano but played on a violin by Taehyung. Jimin stays there in front of Taehyung’s section amongst four people watching his little concert. It’s the first time Jimin sees Taehyung and his heart doesn’t immediately start to work as if it's a race competition. It’s the opposite of that, actually. Jimin feels peaceful looking at Taehyung’s passionate moment with his violin, feeling so moved he has chills all over his body.
When Taehyung opens his eyes, Jimin is right there in front of him. He manages to babble a “wait for me” in-between sets and Jimin does that. He keeps himself busy around the room for the next thirty minutes until Taehyung is allowed to go.
“Why did you choose to play Clair de Lune?” Jimin asks, taking a bite of his Eomuk. After Taehyung finished his part at the music exposition, they decided to eat something together. Jimin suggested they’d go to a place that sells the best Eomuk he had ever eaten, so they walk there together while Taehyung tells Jimin a little bit more about his life. It turns out Taehyung grew up in Daegu and moved to Seoul a few years ago to study and share an apartment with his best friend, Yoongi.
Taehyung’s sitting on Jimin’s left side, their legs slightly touching as Taehyung devours his Eomuk like he hasn’t seen food in days. “So,” he starts with a full mouth. “It was actually Yoongi’s idea. I wanted to play something that everyone would recognize, not just us music students, you know? I was bouncing between options when he suggested this one. It just felt right,” he simply explains.
“This song is strangely sad and soothing at the same time, for me at least it is.” He peers at Taehyung, who nods in agreement. “Oh, you know what I thought while I was watching you play? We should collaborate.”
Taehyung raises one brow at that, slowly turning his body to sit straight looking at the other.
“The next art exhibition at our campus will be in a few months. If you want, we could do our presentation together. You play something and I’ll dance to it. It would be fun!” Jimin exclaims.
“I’d love that!” Taehyung beams from ear to ear, making Jimin feel a little weak with the vision of his endearing smile.
Tonight, Jimin senses they’re going to be great friends. They just click . It’s hard to explain these kinds of connections, there’s not much to say besides that it feels right to be around each other. The conversation goes smoothly, Taehyung’s very easy to talk to and makes Jimin feel comfortable to be himself.
Before they go their separate ways, they finally exchange phone numbers and Taehyung informs Jimin that he’ll be at the park with Minjae the next morning.
It’s crazy to feel so drawn to someone. It’s not a bad type of crazy, it just feels as if you’ve been waiting to meet them your whole life and when it finally happens, everything just fits. Jimin spends the whole trip to his apartment thinking about the whole situation, from the day at the coffee shop until tonight. He’s trying his best to wave off the nagging certainty that crawls his skin every time he hears Taehyung’s voice that he is the faceless angel. He doesn’t want to deal with that nor think about it.
The only thing he’s sure of is that on the next morning he’ll wake up and meet Taehyung and Minjae at the park.
💭
The sun’s soft warmness in the morning feels comfortable against Jimin’s exposed skin. It’s a beautiful day to be outside, streets filled with people taking their morning walks and going to work. Jimin arrives at the park in a good mood after listening to his morning playlist on his way there, quickly spotting Taehyung sitting on a bench as he watches Minjae biting on a squishy pink bear.
“That sure looks delicious,” he approaches, taking off his earphones as he peers at Minie and the bear. “Hi, baby! Hi, pink bear! Hi, Taetae!”
Taehyung glances up at him, a shy grin appearing on the corner of his lips when he acknowledges Jimin’s presence. The sun’s warmness is nothing compared to the comfort Taehyung’s sparkling eyes bring to Jimin.
“Hey! Sit here with us, I’m having the time of my life watching mister pink bear drowning on Minie’s spit,” Taehyung jokingly tells as he moves to the side, making room for Jimin to sit on the bench. “We’re not staying long, though. Namjoon just texted me saying he and Seokjin have plans with Minie in a few hours.”
“Those are his parents?”
“Yeah! The best dads Minie could ever ask for, honestly. They take such good care of him.”
They spend their time there splitting it between getting to know each other a little better and playing with Minie, the baby’s soft giggles being the background noise of their conversation. At one point, Minie sticks his pink bear on his own eyes and starts to cry non-stop. Taehyung’s usually good at handling these moments, but for some reason, Minie won’t stop crying until Jimin tries something.
Jimin asks if he can hold the baby and, as soon as he does, he starts to sing a soft song in the baby’s ears.
As much as my heart flutters, I'm afraid
because the destiny keeps getting jealous of us
as much scared as you are, I’m, too, scared
When you see me, when you touch me
The universe has moved for us
There wasn’t anything even slightly out of place
Our happiness has been destined
Cuz you love me, and I love you
“Are you seriously singing serendipity, a love song, to a crying baby ?” Taehyung teases, eyes narrowed at the scene.
Jimin is gently bouncing the baby in his arms when he answers, “I’ve heard once that babies usually feel calmer when they hear this song. Apparently it’s true since he stopped crying. Don’t crucify my method.” he grimaces at the other.
Minjae’s parents’ apartment is very close to where Jimin lives, so they walk together until they have to split ways, Taehyung carrying the stroller with the baby in it and Jimin holding his bag.
“I still can’t believe how close we live and how we’ve never met before.” Jimin points out as they wait on the sidewalk to cross the street. “I always walked around here and at the park, how come I have never seen you?”
Taehyung nods, his lips pressed in a firm line, his fluffy hair being blown by the soft wind. “Once I heard someone say that you meet a person at the right time, exactly when you need them the most. Maybe we need each other right now, Minie.”
He's right. He needs Taehyung. Right now.

The past few weeks have been filled by each other’s presence. They spend the majority of their days texting and, when they’re not texting, they’re probably together God knows where. Sometimes they go out to eat, others they just want to hang out at some random corner of the city, the most important thing is that they’re glued together. Jimin never gets enough from Taehyung’s glowing presence. He always cherished his time alone to completely let go of his mind and breathe, but when he’s with Taehyung he feels as if his social persona is totally at rest and he has his heart all open to just be .
In the end, Jimin arrives at Taehyung’s place not only a few minutes earlier than anticipated, but with an Eomuk in his hand as a gift for his friend.
They’re unwinding at Taehyung’s living room with their glasses of wine, window open to welcome the moonlight that’s hovering over their heads, a soft playlist made by Taehyung playing in the background. Jimin’s sitting on one of his legs on the floor, his body leaned back with his elbows giving him enough support to not lay completely on the floor as he looks at Taehyung, who is on the couch in front of him. There’s a piano at the right corner of the room, and Jimin can’t help but think how good Taehyung would look playing something to him tonight.
“Is that yours?” Jimin asks, pointing to the piano with his chin.
“It’s Yoongi’s, but honestly, I play it as much as he does,” Taehyung answers. “Do you want to hear something?”
Jimin nearly jolts with excitement at Taehyung's suggestion. “Play me something of yours, will you?”
Taehyung nods as he walks towards the piano, putting his glass of wine on the table. Now Jimin’s completely sitting. He turns his body to Taehyung’s direction and waits eagerly for what the other will play.
What he was not expecting, though, was that his excitement would suddenly turn into the most inexplicable sensation he has ever felt.
When Taehyung starts playing, Jimin immediately recognizes the song.
It is the lullaby from his dreams.
An instant need to vomit takes over his body. He never thought he would ever feel as nervous as he felt on the day he first saw Taehyung and heard him humming that same song he was playing in front of him, but right now it’s a thousand times worse. It’s worse because now he’s sure of what he hears. It’s worse because he asked Taehyung to play something of his own and he played this . The song he has known his whole life.
Isn’t it proof enough that Taehyung is the faceless angel?
Jimin’s mouth is completely dry and his vision gets a bit blurry, making him think he might pass out on that same floor.
How is that even possible? How, why, why, why, how?
Those are the only things going through Jimin’s mind as Taehyung proceeds to play the song, completely oblivious to Jimin’s situation.
He had already made peace with the whole thing, Taehyung’s friendship being so much more important than any possible craziness that would cross Jimin’s mind. But how will he handle this now? He can’t just simply say Hey, Tae! You know this song you just played? Funny, I’ve heard it in my dreams since I was a kid. More wine?
Jimin is still in the middle of his breakdown when Taehyung finishes the song and turns to him. Turns out he’s probably a good actor, ‘cause the other apparently can’t sense the fucking hurricane that’s going inside his head.
“Did you like it?” Taehyung asks, reaching to grab his wine glass.
Jimin swallows hard, a drop of sweat streaming down his chest “Hm—Yeah! It’s a very beautiful song, Tae. Is it really yours?”
Taehyung nods as his left hand runs through his hair. “This one has a funny story, actually,” he declares “This song came to me in a dream. The first time I had this dream I was, I don’t know, maybe five years old? I’m not sure. But I kept dreaming about it for a long time until I started to learn piano and used it as my first composition.” He pauses, resting in his leg the hand that was a few seconds ago on his hair. “I call it The Dreamful Sonata. ”
Well, that certainly doesn’t make Jimin feel better.
He dreamt about that song too. There’s no way this is some nonsense from Jimin’s mind.
He gathers all the remaining strength he has in his body—which is not much at all—before saying anything else.
He still feels his hands shaking, his mouth still dry, sweat still coming out from every possible pore he has in his body, but he has to ask. “Came to you in a dream, hum? That’s—” he gives a sheepish smile, “How were those dreams?”
“I still have those dreams. I mean, it’s been a few months since the last time I had it,” Taehyung nibbles his lower lip. “They’re always a bit blurry, but they never change much. I’m always humming this lullaby to someone called Minie, which is crazy since I never met someone with this name,” he says, his words making Jimin’s heart nearly stop. “That’s why I call Minjae ‘Minie’, actually. When I first met him I immediately recalled this name from my dreams.” He finishes.
“Well, now you know two Minies. Minjae and I.'' Those words burst out from Jimin’s mouth before he could even stop them.
Silence gets the best of them before Jimin starts talking again.
“Do you believe in anything, Tae?”
Taehyung raises one brow as he sits back on the couch “What do you mean? If I believe in God?” Jimin nods, so Taehyung proceeds “I don’t know, that’s too complex. I don’t know if I believe in A God figure, but I’m not totally skeptical. I believe in fate, I think. Everything happens for a reason kind of thing, you know?”
“Like what you said the other day about people meeting at the right time when they most need each other?”
“Exactly that. But you know what’s funny?” Taehyung pauses. He reaches to play with one of Jimin’s fingers, which is placed on one arm of the couch. “I said we met at the right time, but I feel as if I’ve known you my whole life. Is that crazy?” he asks, letting go of the other’s finger.
Jimin doesn’t have to think for a second before he answers.
“No, not at all. I feel the same way.”
The air in the room shifts to something Jimin can’t quite explain. Sure, he’s a hundred percent aware that Taehyung’s one of the prettiest people he has ever seen. Sure, he’s also aware that he might feel attracted to him. But one thing he was not aware of was that Taehyung felt the same way. The way Taehyung’s looking at him right now simply shows that.
He can’t say if it’s the alcohol acting, if he’s too needy or if he’s misreading Taehyung’s facial expression, but at that moment, he just knows something’s about to happen.
Taehyung’s gaze is alluring, almost penetrating through Jimin’s soul. He’s slowly getting closer and closer to Jimin, a small smirk appearing on his lips. Jimin just stays there and waits for what’s coming next.
He waits.
But then that heavy feeling of being sure he knows Taehyung his whole life hits like a hammer in his head. He has to do something before anything happens between them.
He has to tell Taehyung about his dreams.
Jimin finishes the remaining wine in his glass and clears his throat. “Tae, I have to tell you something that will sound really insane.” At that, Taehyung frowns, retracting back to his former position on the couch. “Just please promise you’ll hear me before you say anything,” Jimin begs, his eyes already watering to the thought of Taehyung thinking he’s lying.
It’s one of the most difficult things Jimin has ever done in his life, but it’s also one of the most powerful things he has ever felt when Taehyung looks at him almost crying as he tells the story. He believes everything. More than that, he knows it is true because he lived it too.
At that moment, it’s like they were blindfolded and now they’re able to see everything. Everything becomes clear in their heads.
They’re bonded.
Jimin heard stories about the concept of soulmates his whole life. His grandmother told him lots of them before she died, but he never truly believed it was real. Yes, there are stories about people truly finding their soulmates and telling how they found each other and discovered they were connected, but it’s not common at all. It happens so rarely that Jimin thinks he doesn’t know anyone that has a soulmate.
But the realization of it struck him like a crashing wave right at the moment Taehyung believed him. It seemed as if they both had to know about everything to be allowed by the universe — or whatever the hell commands their bond — to understand they’re soulmates.
They spent the next hour overwhelmed by everything that was happening. It all makes sense now. That need Jimin felt to be close to Taehyung. That sense of comfort when he was around him. They are meant to be close to each other, there’s no reason to fight back the universe’s wish.
They’re lying on the floor, Jimin’s head resting on Taehyung’s panting chest. They haven’t done anything yet. Understanding that you’re soul-bonded to someone can be kind of a lot to take in.
“Minie?” Taehyung murmurs, hand caressing Jimin’s hair. Jimin turns his head to look up at Taehyung’s face as a response. “Can I kiss you?”
Jimin’s answer comes in the form of a smirk stretching the corner of his lips. He crawls a little up so he can reach Taehyung’s lips and grant his wish.
They brush their lips together in the softest way possible. It’s not just a simple kiss, it’s the first time they’re connecting in a physical sense, and they must take their time to just… get to know each other’s bodies. They’re already connected through their souls, so they might as well learn how to connect in other senses.
It starts slow, Jimin sneaking his hand to find Taehyung’s and only stopping when they’re interlaced together. Soon enough he straddles Taehyung’s hips to get into a more comfortable position, absorbing every bit of the moment in. Jimin doesn’t know how long they stay there just kissing, but it’s probably a very long time because when they let go of each other, Taehyung’s lips are swollen and red.
What comes after that? They don’t know. Neither Taehyung nor Jimin knows anyone that has gone through this to give them some guidance about what’s the next step to take, if there’s even one. Everything’s too new, they need time to understand everything that comes with having a soulmate.
“Does that mean that you’ll know everything that I’m feeling?” Taehyung asks, his hands still interlaced with Jimin’s.
Jimin peers at him, “I don’t know, baby. What are you feeling right now?”
“Guess!”
He takes a few seconds to think about his answer, a sly expression appearing on his whole face when he thinks of one.
“A gigantic desire to have sex with me?” Jimin smirks.
Taehyung grimaces at the other, softly smacking a hand on Jimin’s thigh. “Oh my god, already thinking about sex?” He rolls his eyes, tossing his head back with a giggle.
“I’m kidding!” Jimin exclaims.
Five seconds pass.
“...Unless,” he continues.
One look into each other’s eyes is what it takes for them to understand everything. Soulmate thing, right?
Next thing Jimin knows, he’s texting Jungkook to let him know he’s not coming home tonight.
