Under the Staircase

Summary:

Sasuke. Poor little Sasuke… He just had to be separated from his brother in that fucking foster home at three years old. He just had to be given away. He just had to be adopted by someone who thought he was a girl. He just had to. Shut off from anything normal, Sasuke was subtly treated like a female and his mother was overprotective about everything. If it weren’t for his so called "innocent” best friend Sakura, he’d be a lot more clueless than he already was.

Notes:

um, yeah. idek what to put, i might post this on my wattpad too but im not sure lol. dont expect too much from me

Chapter Text

“Sasuke, it’s time to wake up,” he heard the voice of his mother. “Five more minutes…” he mumbled, turning over. “Sasuke, if you don’t get up, you’re going to be late.” The raven slowly opened his eyes and looked at her before tiredly smiling, “Morning mom..” “Good morning, now, up up up, I’m making breakfast; jump in the shower really quickly and get ready so I can drop you off before I head to work.”

He nodded, “Alright…” His mother smiled back and left the room.

-

“Bye mom!”, Sasuke kissed her cheek and ran into the school gates. “Bye Sasuke, remember to get all of your homework turned in!”

-

“Hi Sakura,” Sasuke smiled. “Hey,” she scooted over. “What are you doing?” “Mmh, nothing important. I was talking to Ino.” “Ah, about what?”, he asked curiously, his hands in his lap. “Sasuke, you’re too cute…” Sakura mumbled. “New student. We’re supposed to get one today. Apparently, he’s a foreigner.” “Really?? That’s so cool… I’ve never seen a foreigner…!” “You haven’t seen a lot of things Sasuke,” she sighed.

“Like what?” “Nothing, nothing~” “Why do you always do this??”, Sasuke whined. “Because your reaction is too cute.” “I’m not cute,” he grumbled. “You are, Sasuke,” Hinata sat next to them. “No I’m not!”

Sasuke was drawing on a piece of paper in his notebook. For someone with straight A’s, he had a hobby of zoning out while drawing. When he couldn’t go anywhere expect Sakura’s house and school, Sasuke had picked up many hobbies. Some being baking, felting, arts and crafts, drawing, and makeup—all of which he had gotten pretty good at. He had given his friends gifts like pictures he drew, little animals he felted, things like that. It was the least he could do since he never went out with them.

He felt something hit his arm and he looked over to see his Sakura a few desks away mouthing something to him. He furrowed his brows in confusion. She dramatically mouthed something else and he mouthed the words “what??” “The fucking student!!”, she wordlessly screamed at him. “I don’t know what you’re saying…!”, he whispered. Sakura silently yelled at Sasuke to look at the front of the class while pretending to strangle him.

“Ahem!” Their teacher cleared his throat. They both looked at the front of their class. “Would you like me to give you two a detention?” They shook their head no, “Sorry sir…” “Then keep your eyes up here, both of you. Anyway, I’m sorry about that Mr. Brown.” Sasuke embarrassedly blushed when he saw the principal, ‘Ahhh… I’m such an idiot. I hope he doesn’t get me in trouble.. Stupid Sakura…’ he thought. “It’s alright, they’re high school kids, what do you expect?”, he joked.

“This is Naruto, he’s a new student. Any questions you have, save them until lunch. Naruto, go take a seat next to Shino. He’s the one with the glasses.” Sasuke only now recognized that the blond was there as he walked to the other side of the room to sit next to Shino.

“Well, you guys have a nice rest of your class. Don’t get into any trouble now Kiba,” he smiled. Kiba scoffed and looked away, ‘It was his fault..’ he thought. What he was referring to was a fight that he had gotten into the previous week, he had three days of in school suspension that he had to spend with the principal. It was very boring.

The rest of the class was the same. Sasuke blanking out and unconsciously drawing, Sakura spinning her pencil and throwing little paper balls at Ino. Ino responded to this with throwing eraser bits at her. Hinata was the only one of them actually paying attention.

“He’s gonna make us stay behind and pick up all the stuff we threw,” Sakura sighed. “It’s your fault.” “Don’t you dare blame me Pig.” “Don’t start fighting; I’m trying to focus.” “On?” “Hm? Oh, uh.. nothing,” Sasuke smiled. “Sasuke, you can’t hide stuff from us, what is it?”, Sakura told him. “It’s nothing,” he reassured.

“You’re never this secretive—what is it?” Sasuke blushed before holding out his hands to show them the small item in his hand. “Aww, you made it?” “Yeah… I started it last night but I fell asleep early and forgot about it…” “Whatcha guys talking about?”, someone asked. “Go away Kiba.” “What? I can’t hang out with my girlfriend?” “You bother us every time, so no.” “You guys are so mean. So, what are doing?”, he questioned. “Nothing.” “So mean. That’s why you’ve never had a boyfriend.” “No, it’s because I don’t even like guys, dumbass.” “Then that’s why you don’t have a girlfriend.” “No, it’s because the person I like isn’t aloud to date.” “Kiba, just shut up, she has a come back to everything you say,” Ino told him.

Kiba rolled his eyes, “You two get on my nerves.” “Then go away.” “No, I’m hanging out with my girlfriend,” he kissed Hinata’s cheek. “Kiba… stop it,” she blushed. “Hinata, are you a virgin?” “What’s a virgin?” “Nothing Sasuke,” Sakura pat his shoulder. “What is it?” “Does he seriously not know what a virgin is?”, Kiba smiled. “Kiba, don’t be mean,” Hinata told him. “Are you guys gonna tell me or not???” “Sorry Sas, we can’t tell you.” “You guys are mean,” he grumbled as he got up. “Nooo, Sasuke, where are you going??”, Sakura laughed as she held onto his hand. “Let go, I’m leaving.” “Nooo, I’m sorry!”

-

Sasuke sat under the stairs and grumbled, “Can’t even focus with those idiots around…” he grumbled, tucking his knees to his chest and continuing on his lanyard. It was orange and black, he originally started three of them, but he only put one of them in his backpack. Whenever his friends saw he was making more, they would always ask for one, so he always hid whenever he did it. He didn’t have a problem making them, but it made his fingers hurt.

He had been there for a good five or ten minutes and luckily, he had free period after lunch while his friends had their classes so he would be unbothered until art class. Then two other classes and he could go home.

“Hey.” Sasuke jumped before looking up. ‘Ah… do I know them?’ “Do I know you?” “Nope, I don’t know you either. I’m new.” “Ah… uh, did you need something?”, he mumbled. “Nope. I have free period. You? Or are you just skipping?” “No, I have free period.” “Yeah, you don’t seem like the type to skip,” he laughed. “Nope, I’d get in trouble.” “Yeah, me too. Doesn’t mean I haven’t before. Can I sit?” “Uh, yeah, go ahead,” he scooted over and moved his backpack.

The blond sat next to him, taking off his backpack and putting it in front of him, “I’m Naruto.” “Uh, Sasuke.” “Nice to meet you Sasuke.” “You too,” he smiled. “Whatcha doing?” “Lanyard.” “Ah, cool.” He took out his phone.

“What are you doing?” “Deciding whether I want to text my friend or listen to music.” “Uh… music.” “Yeah, I was thinking that too. What kind of music do you listen to?” “Um… can I see your phone?” Naruto nodded and handed him the phone. He noticed how small Sasuke’s hands were when he saw him typing with two hands.

Sasuke handed him his phone back then went back to his lanyard. Naruto looked at it, “Oliver Tree?” “And I listen to Panic at the Disco, and Mitski. That’s about it… and whatever music my mom puts on.” “My friend listens to Panic at the Disco; I’ve never really found any of their songs that I like.” “Which ones have you listened to?” “Uh… I think it was like High Hopes…? I’m not sure. Any recommendations?” “Um… any song from the album Death of a Bachelor, or I Write Sins Not Tragedies.. Miss Jackson. That’s all I can remember.” “I’ll check them out.”

“What do you listen to?” “Uh, Eminem, The Front Bottoms, The Living Tombstone, Bo Burnham, Mother Mother, that’s the main ones.” “I think I’ve heard one song by The Front Bottoms… I also listen to musicals.” “Yeah? Like what?” “Uh, The Greatest Showman, Beetle Juice, Mean Girls, Heathers, Hamilton, Aladdin, and a lot of Disney songs, mostly the villain ones; like Mother Gothel. Ooh, and I really like Annie, from 2014. Beauty and the Beast, Moana, The Lion King. One of my favorites is Into the Woods. Uh, Camp Rock, I guess High School Musical, I don’t really watch them anymore though. The Hunchback of Norte Dame, The Princess and the Frog, Mary Poppins, ah, Mulan… I can’t think of anymore.”

“I like Into the Woods, and my mom loves musicals too, so I know most of the ones you just said. I don’t think I’ve seen Beetle Juice though.” “You’ve never seen Beetle Juice??? How has your mom not made you watch Beetle Juice??” “Yeah, she’s mad at me for that. I plan on watching it, but I haven’t found the time, I’ll watch it later.” Sasuke narrowed his eyes and turned his head, “Haven’t seen Beetle Juice?? Who hasn’t seen Beetle Juice?”, he said under his breath.

Naruto smiled at him, turning off his phone, “You mad at me?” “I don’t even know you, so no. Just very disappointed in you as a person.” “That somehow hurts my feelings more than you being mad at me.” “Watch it and then I’ll forgive you.” “Thought you weren’t mad at me?” “It’s both.” “Alright, alright, I’ll start it right now.” “Ah, and I forgot The Nightmare Before Christmas.” “I’ve watched that, it’s a good movie.”

-

“Ah… it’s almost time for my next class,” Sasuke realized, “I have to go.” Naruto sighed, “Yeah, me too. What class do you have next?” “Art, you?” “Math, sadly.” “Oh, uh, good luck. Piece of advice, don’t zone out, you’re gonna end up missing half of the lesson if you do..” “Speaking from experience?” “Yeah,” he blushed as Naruto helped him up. “Same time tomorrow?” “I don’t have free period tomorrow. Um… lunch?” “Yeah, that’s cool,” he hummed. “Do you have any more of your lanyard thingys?” “Yeah, I have a bunch at home,” Sasuke told him. “Do you… want one?” “Yeah.”

“Uh, I really have to go, so, my friend has math too, just.. tell her to text me whatever colors you want and I’ll bring it. Her name is Sakura, she has pink hair, it’s pretty hard to miss her. Um… bye,” he quickly hugged him and walked away. “Bye Sasuke,” Naruto smiled.

Sasuke turned off his phone and went back to his homework. His mother didn’t know, but he knew he was adopted. Whether she wanted to keep it a secret, or just didn’t want to tell him, he found out. He didn’t necessarily care that he was adopted, it was just another part of his life. His mother took care of him, loved him, gave him food and everything he could ever need. She made sure he was safe, at school, had good grades—there was no reason for him to feel any resentment towards her for not telling him. The only thing he could say was bad was that she was controlling over his life and he had 0 freedom whatsoever—his mother went through his phone everyday, he had screen time, he couldn’t give anyone his number if his mother didn’t know them and their family, he couldn’t message any boys, and he couldn’t have a password on his phone. He couldn’t have sweets, he couldn’t drink soda, he rarely ever ate fast food, and it was just very stressful. The worst part was, he couldn’t have strawberries. Why?? He didn’t know, his mother would never tell him. He had never even tried one. It sucked.

-

Sasuke sat at the table and smiled at his mother. “You’re in a good mood, did something happen?” “No, there’s tomatoes in this,” he smiled. “Ah, I forgot those were your favorite.” “Yeah right, you could never forget.” “How was school?”, she asked. “It was good, we got a new student.” “Really?” “Mhm, he’s pretty nice. We have first and fourth period together. I talked to him during my free period.”

“Oh? What’s he like?” “Mmh, I’m not really sure, we didn’t talk that much.” “Well, what did you guys talk about?”, she said seriously. “Uh, music. I told him some of my favorite musicals, he asked for some music recommendations, then he told me he’d never watched Beetle Juice??” “Really??” “That’s what I said, how does one continue on with life without watching Beetle Juice. He also said his mom likes musicals, so that’s nice.”

“Yes, that’s nice. What else happened today?” “Um… Nothing really. I had art today, so that was cool. What about you? How was your day?” “Mmh, the usual. Work was boring, as per usual. Just wanted to get home and lay down.” “I could get a job,” Sasuke offered. “No, it’s okay. Work is work. You just focus on school and getting good grades,” she told him. “Okay.”

-

When he got out of the shower, Sasuke put the keychains and lanyards in his backpack. One was for Hinata, she had asked for one but he forgot about it, one was for him, one was for Naruto and the last was just in case he got bored. He made sure he put his homework and notebooks away before laying down and turning on his iPad.

Sasuke: gn sakura <3

<3: shsvshshshja it’s so cute that you text me gn every night. gn sasuke <333 •//////•

Sasuke: it’s not cute, shut up, i take back my gn.

<3: noo, i’m sorry

Sasuke fell asleep watching Netflix at 10 after his screen time was up and he couldn’t do anything else. He had been watching rewatching all of the Scooby Doo Movies after finishing Aladdin for the 50 billionth time. That was his everyday life. Wake up, shower, go to school, go home, do homework, chores, arts and crafts, shower, dinner, Netflix, sleep, then repeat. And on weekends, it hardly varied.
