Work Text:
Kawata Souya. Tanned skin darkened to utter perfection, a constant frown that somehow managed to maintain a level of softness and clarity to them, stunning blue eyes that could shift the weight of your entire world at a simple glance.
Kawata Souya, you have deemed, to be an angel sent from heaven. However, it seems that everyone except for you thought the exact opposite of that.
…
Spitting out all the juice that was in Chifuyu’s mouth, Takemitchi couldn’t help but stare in utter shock. Poor Kazutora, his jacket was sullied by Chifuyu’s spat-out juice.
“Right?! That was my reaction too!” Nahoya exclaimed, grinning like an idiot as he pointed at Takemitchi’s poorly done bleach job.
“Huh…? Seriously?” Mitsuya asked, still slightly stunned. Souya, however, was hiding his face in the white scarf that Mitsuya himself knitted for him - ears so pigment with a slightly bolder tone than the rest of his skin that he ended up conveying his answer wordlessly.
“Haha, no fucking way! Angry? Having a crush on someone?!” Baji laughed, clearly getting an absolute kick out of the situation.
Growling, Souya shot him a glare. “Can it, asshole!”
“So? You gonna introduce us or what?” Mikey asked with a snide smile. At his commanders’ request (which was most definitely a demand) Souya let out a sigh, shoulders slumped.
“If he won’t introduce you, then I will.” Nahoya grinned, sending the group a thumbs-up as he set a hand on his brother’s shoulder. Souya gave him a desperate “I beg you oh dearest brother of mine, do not let them interact” glance. Which, in fact, was blatantly ignored.
“The person he’s crushing on is my best friend after all,” And with that, Souya admitted defeat with yet another hefty sigh as his friends let out cheers of excitement.
…
You inhaled through your nose. Cold winter air settling in your lungs before you blew it back out through your mouth, hot and puffy air dissipating into the coldness of the season. White snowflakes latched onto your clothing as you waited at a bench in the middle of a park.
Nahoya wanted you to meet a bunch of his friends. The suggestion was brought up last night during a phone call. After responding with a “No reason”, after you asked for the occasion you decided not to go.
“Souya is tagging along as well,” You then decided you would go. Damn Nahoya and his constant urge to play matchmaker. You were very much aware that the youngest brother had a crush on you, and when you had found out (again all through Nahoya) you were desperate to pounce on Souya the next chance you got.
However, the only thing that keeps you grounded is the thought of Souya swallowing up his extremely thick pride and confession to you. It made your heart swell with joy. So you decided to hold back until he confessed - or until you caved yourself.
You rubbed your hands together, a small attempt to keep warm. Though as the biting chill of winter nipped at the slightly exposed skin of your ankles, you just couldn’t bring yourself to regret coming out. Besides, winter was beautiful. Grey and clouded skies brushed over with a slight puffiness that it just doesn’t have during warmer seasons, bright snowflakes settling softly on Souya’s clothing - melting fairly quickly as a result, and the flush of Souya’s cheeks when the cold began to eat at his skin.
Souya? Huh, guess your mind really does wander to him sometimes. Souya. Souya, Souya, Souya; you chanted in your head. Though it was utterly shameful just how in love with him you were, you truly didn’t mind having your head plagued by the thought of him 99% of the time. Spare the 1% for his brother and your best friend, Nahoya.
Those brothers felt like the only thing you had in this world. This cruel, clarity-crushing, and disappointing world. You needed them to stay anchored to reality. If not for them - you would’ve been whisked away by the temptations of horrid this world was akin to.
A fist was slammed softly over the top of your head, though it didn’t exactly hurt, it wasn’t the most comforting feeling, “Did you fall asleep with your eyes open? I’ve been calling to you since we entered the park.”
Nahoya stood, fist brought down on the top of your head, while a hoard of people you didn’t recognize stood behind him. Well, except for Souya. You could recognize him in any sea of randomized strangers - even if you saw only a small twirl of his frizzy hair.
“Sorry, I was distracted. And get your fucking fist off me,” You remarked, swatting his hand away.
“Rude bitch.” Nahoya muttered in annoyance despite the seemingly glee-filled smile. Returning his comment with the love of your middle finger you walked over to Souya and smiled sweetly.
“Mornin’ Souya,” Just upon hearing your voice, he visibly stiffened. His friends stared with quiet shock and amusement as he tripped over his words.
“Uh-huh,” Souya nodded. Bringing his shirt over his mouth to cover the slight upturn of the corner of his lips. “...you too.” Behind the two of you, Nahoya frantically, but quietly pointed dramatically. Making overly dramatic and lovely scenes with himself and pretending to make out with an invisible person while mimicking the two of you.
Though only Souya was able to see Nahoya’s actions due to your back being turned, it was blatantly obvious that he was fucking with you from the small snickers of the group and the stifled laugh falling dead on Baji’s lips.
“Nahoya, I will seriously put you in a headlock.” At the mention of his name, the man in question straightened up his posture and chuckled nervously.
Though you could never dream of beating him in a 1v1, if Souya was by your side, you would definitely win. Though it pisses Nahoya off a lot he just accepted the fact to never sincerely piss you off when with his brother. Claiming that the “love power-up was a total bust”, and that he should get a boyfriend soon to combat you.
Though it never stopped him from poking the bear every once in a while. The two
of you were often in a tussle. Though it was all playful and you’d never intentionally hurt each other unless it were under the right circumstances (which were barely ever right).
“Are you going to introduce me or what?” You asked, hands on your hips and backing away from Souya, staring at the two brothers expectantly.
Souya rushed to follow your orders, always finding himself blindly obeying you. “Meet my friends from the Tokyo Manji Gang.” He spoke, putting a hand out to point to the group of people. You barely recognized a few of them, only from taped-up polaroids in Souya’s room.
“This is the bitch I was talking about yesterday. Totally ugly am I right?” Nahoya grinned, moving his arm to point at you.
“Haha, very funny.” You mused as you kicked the back of his knees, causing him to unwillingly bend a knee as you pushed his hair down - taking blatant advantage of the limpness in his left knee.
“I’m the apparent “bitch” he was talking about yesterday. It’s nice to meet you all.” You said, bowing in respect as you held Nahoya’s head down much to his protesting grunts.
“Oh, you’re not a girl,” Takemitchi mumbled under his breath, shifting his gaze to Souya who was more focused on you man-handling his brother. Some of the other guys’ sent a glance towards Takemitchi. Souya probably should’ve mentioned it beforehand but didn’t since he thought it was pretty obvious how inherently gay he was.
Oh, Hanagaki Takemitchi, never getting the drift or reading the room unless it was blatantly spelled out letter for letter.
“Yeah, found out last time I took a piss. How’d you know?” You said sarcastically as you backed away from Nahoya. Moving quickly behind Souya before the orange-haired guy took a lunge at you.
“You have the balls to man-handle, Smiley?” Baji asked, slightly amused. ‘Smiley’ in question gave him a very clear glare behind his closed eyelids. Staring a hole into Baji’s skull despite his eyes being closed.
“Smiley? Don’t tell me that’s your fucking gang name. That sounds lame as shit!” You laughed, turning to Nahoya who was getting exceedingly annoyed at the comments you were throwing him despite hiding behind his little brother.
“You do know that Souya is called Angry right? His name is even lamer.” Nahoya argued, pointing at the boy with a blue afro.
“Hey, don’t talk to Souya in that tone.” You said, scolding him like you were his father, as you put a defensive hand on Souya’s shoulder.
“That’s not fair, you’re picking favorites!” Nahoya whined.
“Well maybe if you were more likable Souya wouldn’t have to be my favorite!” You argued, wrapping your arms around Souya’s neck as you hung lazily around him. At the contact, Souya felt himself stop breathing. He could feel the warmth of your breathing by his ear, your body heat against his back. Suddenly, he was no longer cold.
“You guys seein’ this shit?!” Nahoya exclaimed, pointing a accusing finger at you. You were certainly not what they were expecting Souya to fall for. That’s for sure.
“Oh, I’m sorry. Did you get butt-hurt? Want me to wipe away your tears?” That was the last straw, Nahoya started to march over. Before first impressions turned sour as you readied for a fistfight, Mikey took a step forward in between the two of you.
“We were just about to go out and eat lunch. Want to come with us?” You smiled at the thought of some warm food to combat this weather.
“Only if Souya is coming.” You grinned abashedly, tightening your hold against him. Nahoya opened his mouth and motioned his index finger to his tongue and pretended to gag from behind Mikey’s back.
“Well, Angry? You coming?” Mikey asked with the most shit-eating grin he has ever seen on his face. If a lot of them were being honest, they really just wanted to see the apparent switch in Souya’s personality when it came to you. And what they’ve seen so far, and the gears in his head still trying to process that you wrapped your arms around him seventy seconds ago, they were most definitely amused.
“H-Huh?! Oh, uh - yeah, sure.” Souya responded, swallowing whatever was in his mouth to calm his nerves that were currently doing the electric boogaloo down a roller coaster.
…
“Baji, you are enjoying this way too much.” Kazutora sighed as the man in question was laughing up a storm. The increasing anger and embarrassment on Souya’s face were just making it all the more funnier.
“You barely even talked! Y-You were like a totally different person!” Baji exclaimed, pointing a finger at Souya.
“Oh my god, my favorite part was when he fed Angry!” Mikey recalled, laughing at the fourth division vice-captain as well. You decided to tease the brother and give up an offer to being fed. Replying a bit too quickly, Souya just sat there, mouth still open even after the meat was settling on his tastebuds. He kind of just, stopped working entirely, more focused on the fingers holding his chin in place.
“Could you stop it?!” Souya exclaimed, clearly flushed out of his mind from the events that took place yesterday.
“I-I...do I actually act so obvious…?” Souya mumbled, slightly bummed at the fact that he was so readable.
Mitsuya put a hand on his shoulder. “Dude, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone stare as hard as you did.” Souya gritted his teeth as if he was just insulted (which he probably was), he had hoped to get at least a bit of sympathy.
“Why don’t you confess?” Chifuyu asked, rolling out his drink from a vending machine they were stopped by.
“CONFESS?!” Souya stared at the bleached blonde boy. “Are you insane?! Look, I’m cool and all, I get it. But I’m not asking to get my heart broken!” He argued, almost whining.
“How are you so sure that you’ll get rejected?” Nahoya asked, shaking his head in disagreement.
“Bro, are you serious? I don’t stand a fucking chance in the world.” Souya sighed, already giving up before even trying. Nahoya gave him the most annoyed smile.
“He literally calls you to say he loves you before you go to sleep,” Baji snorted despite having no damn room to talk when he is obligated to call his mother and tell her he loves her at night when sleeping over at a friends.
“So? Lots of friends do that! Chifuyu and Takemitchi do that,” Souya mumbled stubbornly, crossing his arms over his chest and looking the other way.
“He packs you, only you , not fucking me, lunch every single day like some domesticated house husband-” Souya butted in with a “Friends do that too! Takemitchi makes Bentos for Mikey!” Nahoya scoffed.
“Does Takemitchi put a heart-shaped strawberry in the middle of Mikey’s fruit salad?” Mikey let out a sigh. He kinda wished Takemitchi did.
“HE LITERALLY REFUSES TO SLEEP ANYWHERE BUT IN THE SAME BED AS YOU!” Nahoya shouted, pointing an accusing finger at his younger brother. At the statement, Draken looked towards Souya dumbfounded.
“Seriously? And you still think you don’t have a chance?” Draken murmured. If Emma ever asked to cuddle in bed with Draken he would confess his love on the spot.
“YEAH AND?! EVEN YOU CUDDLE UP TO TAKEMITCHI WHEN YOU’RE TIRED!” Takemitchi let out a sigh. Why was his name always being brought up in this?
“Souya. He’s literally kissed the back of your neck after a fucking shower. How dunce can you be?” Nahoya sighed, exhausted, and had now given up. At that, all eyes were on the blue-haired boy.
“I’ve never done that with anyone now have I?” Takemitchi asked with sass, putting his hands on his hips.
“Whatever, he’s just playful.” Nahoya turned around and slammed his forehead into the vending machine, knocking a few snacks and drinks off their designated resting place. With a straight face and open eyelids, Nahoya turned around to stare at his brother dead in the eye.
“If I was him, I’d reject your ass for making me wait so fucking long because your ignorance is bigger than your fighting skills for fucks sake.” Nahoya sighed, shaking his head yet again.
“How about you just subtly see if he’s interested in you?” Mitsuya asked hands crossed over his chest while watching the twin’s dispute.
“Subtly…?” Souya mimicked.
“Yeah, like dropping subtle questions and observing his behavior. Stuff like that,” Draken explained.
“That’s a great plan and all, but you forget that this fucking loser forgets his ability of speech when it comes to that dude,” Nahoya stated, pointing at his twin brother without shame.
“Rude.” Souya scoffed.
“I could always send you advice later tonight if you need it!” Mitsuya smiled, giving him a thumbs-up. Though he was just rooting for his friend, he also liked the extra amusement.
“...Thanks,” Souya mumbled - slightly embarrassed about the fact that he’s receiving love advice from his friends.
“You have to tell us in detail each time you fail-”
“Be sure to keep us updated!” Kazutora grinned, covering Baji’s mouth before he could ruin the small sliver of Souya’s confidence. The younger twin smiled, giving them a nod as he and his brother headed home.
Step one: Ask if he’s into dudes.
Souya knew how to do that. He’s had to subtly drop hints about his sexuality months prior to his coming out just to ease his nerves so he’s basically an expert at seeing where people stand on the ally spectrum.
However, Nahoya was definitely right.
“You’re really warm, Souya.” You said, sighing happily against his skin, arms around his waist. Yep! Souya admits defeat against his twin! He can barely talk when you’re in the vicinity! Currently, the two of you were at the very top of the school’s staircase up to the roof.
The roof was normally where you and the twins spent your lunch break but since it was snowing, you decided that the stairwell was a worthy option as well. Though, the closed doors leading to the roof didn’t stop the cold air from seeping in.
“Are you really that cold?” Souya asked softly. His voice was quiet - almost a whimper of despair.
“Possibly, yes.” You replied, nuzzling into his fluffy hair.
“Possibly?” He repeated.
“Possibly, yes. But,” You squeezed him tighter, burying your face into his back with a smile seeping through the fabric. “-I’m also a bit greedy and like to be close to you.” Souya felt his heart choke, fall over, and die. Breath caught in his throat he let out a flustered hum.
“Your waist is kind of small,” You commented, trailing your hands along his shirt to feel the outline of his body. Souya was this close to melting into a puddle.
“Nahoya thinks so too,” When in doubt, throw his brother into the situation. It was his go-to defense mechanism.
“Gross, keep the PDA to a minimum.” Nahoya grimaced, cringing at the sight as he walked up the stairs. Casually flipping him off, your hand tightened around Souya’s waist.
“Jeez, go easy on my brother, will you? He looks like he’s about to die of a heat stroke in the middle of winter,” Nahoya teased - grinning like an ass down at his younger twin who was sitting on the step below yours.
“Guess he’ll have to get used to it.” You said curtly, chin propped up on Souya’s shoulders. He wasn’t sure how much more touching he could take before he combusted. His chest already felt so tight that he considered calling an ambulance.
Nahoya let out a soft sigh, staring at his brother’s clearly disheveled state before taking a picture with his phone. The guys would love to see that expression on Souya’s face. “The hell was that for?” You asked.
“No reason, you guy’s just looked cute,” Nahoya commented. He supposed he could play the big brother for once and spot Souya.
“I feel like Hakkai and Mitsuya get gayer each time I see them,” Nahoya said fuck it and went all in. He’d have to apologize to the mentioned boys later if they catch wind.
“You said it,” Souya snickered.
“They would honestly make a cute couple,” The older brother said, sprawling out on the step below Souya to rest his head against his elbows.
“What do you think about that?” He asked, looking towards you. You gave him a questioned hum.
“About guys dating, what’s your opinion?” You let out a scoff.
“What in the hell have I been doing with my appearance to make it seem that I’m a straight man?” Nahoya let out an airy laugh. Called it. Baji owed him five bucks. Souya internally let out a sigh, before heat raised to his face again.
Step one was a success??
Step two: Subtly poke at the question, “What would you do if I were to date someone else?”
It was a good idea, again, however - it was bad considering it was a plan targeted towards Kawata Souya. Who in the hell could anyone picture Souya with if not you?? Oh well, he’d have to try his luck anyway. Who was he even compatible with enough to use as bait? Well - more so, who wouldn’t mind?
“You okay?” Souya stopped in his tracks when you put a hand on his shoulder. Looking into your eyes he let out a flustered laugh.
“Yeah, sorry. I guess my mind was somewhere else,” He responded.
“What were you thinking about?” You asked, giving his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. Souya would have to apologize to Takemitchi later, he just happens to be the most likable person in the group.
“Nahoya’s always talking to people, constantly trying to score dates. He’s really popular. I think he wants to be something like a host in the future,” Souya commented.
“Haha! That guy? A host? Yeah, alright.” You laughed. You were definitely going to tease him about that later.
“Maybe I should go on a date with someone. Maybe like - Takemitchy?” Souya said - clearly unsure of himself. Instantly, the air around them shifted. It got so quiet that he could hear you slightly off-pace breathing. He dared to take a glance at you. Staring at him in shock, he was able to see the bob of your adam’s apple as you gulped.
“That so? What’s this Takemitchy guy like?” You asked, an uncomfortably stiff smile on your face as you took your hand off his shoulder. Turning your body away from him to face forward and leave him with an unreturning gaze. That was certainly odd.
“He’s really nice. Maybe a little too nice. He’s always sticking his neck out for people, protecting others stronger than him even if it’s in exchange for broken limbs and bones. He’s just...a really cool guy overall,” Souya spoke, convincing himself to sound confident.
“I can be like that,” You said daringly. You had the smallest frown on your face, seeming to contemplate something in your head.
“Huh?” Souya responded. What was that supposed to mean?
“I can be like that too if that’s the kind of person you’re into.” You said softly, almost under your breath. Fists tightening you had the ghost of a scowl on your face before you turned to him with an empty grin.
“If you do end up going on a date with him, you have to keep me updated, okay?” You paused, smile falling from your face as you stared him in the eye. There was something strong and unwavering in your gaze, yet it was hesitant. Hesitant and unsure - almost nervous.
“Just don’t leave me behind, okay? I get lonely you know,” You said softly, bring a hand up to his cheek and brushing your thumb underneath his eye. Underneath your skin, his cheek felt on fire. Then, you walked away, leaving him there stunned.
Step two was a success…? He thinks so at least.
Step three: Try things you usually don’t do with him. (Be touchy, compliment him, etc)
Oh god, this one was sure to kill Souya. Touch you?? Compliment you?? He was really bad at all of that. Considering he restarts like a Windows 10 computer when you even breathe in his direction. But here he was, trying his best.
“Souya?” You asked, softly knocking your knuckles against his forehead. “Souyaaa? Anyone home~?” You sang.
Embarrassed that you had caught him staring into space, he rushed to cover his forehead, “Quit teasing me, asshole!” He exclaimed, burying his face farther into his scarf.
“Oh, dear me. My deepest apologies,” You snickered, rolling your eyes at how dramatic he was. Currently, you and Souya were walking home together. Apparently, Nahoya had some business to take care of and told the two of you to go ahead. The two of you were neighbors but since your parents were rarely home, your mother working as a secretary for a CEO overseas, while your father was a surgeon, you basically lived with the Kawata’s.
Most of your clothes were in their shared bedroom, you have a toothbrush in Souya’s holder, a designated towel that hangs from a hook in the bathroom, and even an excessive amount of pillows on Souya’s bed since you refuse to sleep in the same bed as Nahoya. It’s been like that since the two of you started middle school, you were basically another brother to Nahoya so he treated you the same as Souya.
Though despite the years you’ve been together, Souya still gets very embarrassed and flustered around you. But, as you keep teasing him, you just remind Nahoya that he’ll get used to it at some point. Nahoya is constantly cheering for his brother to confess his feelings (despite the classic teasing and bullying he’d have to endure every valentine’s and white day) though he can’t help but dread the day the two of you truly get together.
Nahoya seriously doesn’t want to deal with the two of you being lovey-dovey and kissing in his bedroom. Gross. He’d have to get a boyfriend soon to spite you.
“Is there anything you want to do before we go home?” You asked, nudging Souya’s arm. This was his chance! He was thankful you always considered his feelings since it made these stupid little plans Mitsuya got him to follow a bit easier to follow through since he’d never have the courage to execute them on his own.
“How about we go on a date?”
….what.
“N-Not like an actual date?! Haha, like - uh - you know - like hanging out! Like, uh, like-” Souya spatted out, tripping over his words. It came out so naturally, it took him a moment to register the words he just said to you.
“Alright, let’s go,” You said, prying his hands away from his flushed face, grinning at him like some kid that received candy.
“On a date, Souya. Let’s go on a date.” Ah, you would be the absolute death of him. You smiled happily at him, softly holding his wrists. There was a slight flush upon your face - clearly, you were embarrassed. And that sight was an absolute treat for Souya’s heart.
“...okay. A date. Let’s go on a date.” He mumbled, taking his wrists away from you and covering his smile with his scarf. Using his unoccupied hand, he reached for yours. With flushed faces, the two of you started to walk to the heart of the city, hand in hand. Simply happy to be in each other’s presence.
“I CAN’T BELIEVE HE ACTUALLY DID IT???” Nahoya grinned, totally happy for how far his brother had come. Mikey giggled as he took photos from the two of you, far away and hidden behind bushes.
“Should we really be spying on them like this..?” Takemichi sighed, though he couldn’t help but feel a bit fluffy inside as you dragged Souya across the street. The two of you really reminded him of that feeling he gets with Hina.
“Of course! We have to be there to support our Angry!” Baji complained, joining Mikey on his miny photo shoot.
“Oh please, you’re just doing this for your own entertainment. Not for Angry.” Kazutora said, rolling his eyes. Nonetheless, Kazutora and Chifuyu tagged along too.
Step three was totally a success!
Step four: I know you kind of suck at this, but try and flirt with him.
Well gee, thanks for the extra encouragement Mitsuya. Though, he wasn’t wrong. How the hell was he supposed to flirt with you?? He didn’t even know how to flirt?!
“Damn, whoever made this needs their ass ate.” You mumbled, licking crumbs off your lips. Currently, the two of you were inside a bakery. You and Souya sat side by side in a small corner shying away from most of the people. You never sat across from Souya which he found endearing.
Despite Nahoya who adored spicy foods, Souya leaned much more to sweets. Though he didn’t have as big of a sweet tooth as Mikey, he would prefer sweeter or even bitter things over Nahoya’s heavy spice tolerance.
“We should try recreating it this weekend,” Souya suggested - voice quiet and uncertain. Though, he seemed to be talking a lot more today. It made you smile.
“Definitely! You know - you’re really cute like that.” You smiled, continuing on assaulting the large ass cookie. It was a plain chocolate chip cookie but it was fucking huge. Like, huge . And somehow it tasted even better? Who knows.
“Cute..? Like how?” Souya asked, the praise made his heartbeat slightly faster.
“You know, always thinking of stuff to make that guy happy. I really like that compassionate side of you, even if you try and hide it.” You chuckled, turning to him with a toothy grin. It was true, Souya was constantly doing things that would make you and his brother happy. He does it so often that he doesn’t even notice. Saying stuff like,
“I should bring him here. He likes that kind of arcade game.”
“Maybe I should buy extra for him. He’s always found this stuff cute.”
“Black really suits him. Makes his eyes pop. I should buy this as a surprise.”
Lately, Souya would say things like this out loud. And he’s come to realize that an unspecified ‘he’ is either talking about his brother or about you, sometimes even both of you at the same time. He’ll never realize it, but Souya is a really caring guy. Even if he tries to deny it.
“I didn’t say that just so I could bake for Nahoya,” Souya mumbled, slightly embarrassed at what he was trying to do.
“Don’t lie. You’re always doing stuff for that guy,” You replied back, almost sarcastically. Souya let out a small huff before he put a hand on your shoulder, prompting you to look at him.
“I don’t want to remake it for Nahoya. I want to remake it for you.” Souya almost surprised himself. Wow! He totally just sounded cool and flirty right there! Way to go, Souya!
He watched as you slowly started to register his words. At the sudden truth bomb blown up in your face like WW2 you raised your arm up to hide the smile on your mouth. “T-That so?” You mumbled, turning your head away from him as you bashfully began to eat again.
That totally worked. Souya could definitely see the change in your playful behavior. I mean, he totally understood, it wasn’t often he said stuff like that. It was usually you who teased and praised him. And due to the slight ego-boost, he decided to be a little daring.
“Want to try?” You asked, desperately trying to change the topic to something else so your heart would calm down. Your voice was slightly muffled, a pretty big chunk of the cookie in between your teeth and hanging out of your mouth.
Fuck it, he thought.
“Souya-?” He didn’t even bother to answer you, leaning in extremely close. Your noses barely brushed as he bit off more than half of the cookie. If it weren’t for you forgetting to breathe he would’ve definitely felt your breath on his face.
Taking a moment to chew, Souya abashedly nodded at you. “You’re right, it tastes great.”
There was a small moment of silence, the only thing the two of you could hear was the beating of your heart. Slowly and carefully you sank your head to the table, the tips of your ears were seriously burning. They were so hot you thought they’d fall off.
“Flirty bastard.” You cursed under your breath, causing Souya to let out an embarrassed laugh. Yeah, no. Souya wouldn’t have the courage to do that for another five years.
“No way!” Kazutora whispered, peeking his head out from behind the newspaper Baji and Chifuyu were holding. He was stuck in between them.
“WAS THAT A KISS, DID THEY KISS????” Nahoya asked, whispering to the rest of the group who had really bad disguises on. The only reason you and Souya hadn’t noticed them was only that you were way too focused on each other. Other than that, it was pretty obvious.
“No they didn’t but it was really damn close,” Draken laughed, watching the two of you sink into the table out of embarrassment.
“Damn! I didn’t think Angry had it in him!” Baji snickered, almost surprised by the sudden initiation.
“They truly are cute together.” Mitsuya chuckled, watching as you and Souya kept nudging and punching each other in a failing attempt to calm yourselves down.
So, Souya has run into a problem. He has no more steps to follow.
“Ah, Souya! I’m done with the shower if you need to use it.” You smiled, pointing to the bathroom. You were shirtless, of course, with only your boxers on. Understandable since you usually stole shirts from Souya or Nahoya to drool on in your sleep so you never packed a shirt to change into after showering.
Though, that doesn’t calm Souya’s heart at all.
“...thanks,” Souya mumbled under his breath, turning his back to you as he reached for his phone.
“You’re still embarrassed ‘bout seeing me shirtless?” You snickered as you stole a basic black shirt from the closet the twins shared together. Well, with you as well. You were sure it was Souya’s from the intricate blue designs.
“Am not!” Souya exclaimed. He flopped onto his bed debating what his next move should be. He only got this far thanks to Mitsuya’s guidance. Now what? He was beginning to believe he had a chance with you, but of course, he was still nervous. The idea of getting rejected and things become awkward between the two of you made him want to throw up.
“Souya? I’ve been calling your name, you okay?” You asked, the bed dipping against your weight.
“Probably thinking about you,” Nahoya snickered. Souya growled - not hesitating to chuck a pillow at his brother’s face.
“Wow, didn’t know you were so lovesick about me~!” You laughed, sprawling out on the bed beside him. The day would end soon and night had already fallen. Most people would be asleep by now considering it was technically early in the morning, 2 AM to be exact, but the three of you tended to be up pretty late.
“I’m kinda craving snacks,” You mumbled. It was Saturday so you’d have to go grocery shopping tomorrow. Having three boys under the same roof that constantly got into fights means that the first aid kit was always empty, and the snack cupboard was emptied by Wednesday.
“If you go to the convenience store make sure to put something over your boxers this time,” Nahoya said, spouting his usual sarcasm. Flipping him off with an embarrassed expression you got up to put on some sweatpants.
Were you seriously gonna go on a snack run? That’s dangerous, bad people are usually out at this time of night. Both of the twins knew that.
“I’ll-”
“Let me come with you!” Souya called, cutting his brother off completely. Nahoya raised his hands as if he were being arrested and decided to mind his damn business.
“Thanks! I’ll wait for you out front,” You smiled, leaving to get a coat and wait outside. Souya let out a sigh once you left the room, body collapsing into the sheets of his bed.
“Just confess already, loser.” Nahoya snickered as he got up to use the shower. Souya let out an exasperated sigh.
“I’m nervous.” He admitted, getting up to put on some pants. Nahoya, in return, sighed.
“Can’t you trust your brother for once? I’m telling you, go for it before it’s too late.” Before Souya could question him, Nahoya closed the bathroom door behind him. The shower turned on behind closed doors.
“Before it’s too late, huh?” Souya repeated softly. All right, fuck it, why not. He’d go for it even if he’d get rejected.
“There you are. I was about to leave without you,” You snickered. You were using one of Souya’s windbreakers, though he didn’t mind a bit. It suited you. You were also wearing Nahoya’s scarf, you must’ve mistaken it for yours since the two were very similar in appearance.
“Sorry, I couldn’t find pants to wear since you’re always stealing mine.” Souya lied. Though it was a very believable bluff.
“So sorry, your majesty. I’ll be sure to buy my own clothes this week.” You said sarcastically, patting his back as the two of you began to walk to the convenience store down the street.
The walk was short - only striking up small conversations in between light touches. Souya brought up the test he was sure he’d fail tomorrow while poking your arm. You talked about this cute cat you stumbled upon while you played with the ends of his hair. It ended with the two of you holding hands in comfortable silence as you entered the store.
“What are you getting?” Souya asked, following you blindly as you tugged on his hand.
“Just some chips and a drink, maybe something sweet too. Are you getting anything?” You asked as Souya let go of your hand, to your disappointment, to walk down the aisle.
“Maybe some chocolate. I might get Nahoya a drink so he doesn’t whine when we get back,” How thoughtful. You let out a soft chuckle.
“Good idea,” You praised.
“That’ll be $17.50,” The guy running the counter said. Handing him a $20 you ended up paying for both you and Souya, well, Nahoya as well. Technically. That was due to Souya completely forgetting his wallet at home.
“I’ll pay you back, I promise!” Souya worried, carrying the bag of snacks while you carried the bag of drinks. You let out a laugh and reminded him that it was alright. As the two of you walked back, you passed a playground for kids.
“Hey,” Souya called, grabbing on the back of your (his) windbreaker to stop you from walking anymore.
“Let’s sit at a bench for a little while. I don’t want to go home just yet,” Though you were confused, you blindly agreed. Whatever Souya wanted you’d give it to him within a heartbeat.
“The moon is beautiful, tonight.” You smiled, a puff of warm hair laying stagnant in front of you before disappearing into the cold of the night. It was a half-moon today, still just as pretty as a full moon though.
Though, as you stared at the moon. Souya couldn’t help but gaze at you. Standing in the cold, in his clothing, backdropped by the stars and the dark night sky, he thought he might have a heart attack.
“Yeah, really beautiful,” Souya whispered. Grounding him back to earth you led him to a park bench. It hadn’t snowed for a week so thankfully, the park bench was just fine to sit on. You relaxed into the seat, the light from a lamp right beside the bench was enough to light up Souya’s embarrassed and hesitant expression. Why was he just standing in front of you instead of taking a seat?
“Souya?” You called, sitting up and stretching your back.
“I uh-” Swallowing down his pride, he used one of his hands to cover his mouth. Fuck, he didn’t bring a scarf.
“If you’re worried about something you can tell me. I’ll listen to anything you have to say,” You said, starting to worry. Grabbing his waist and bringing him closer to you. Great. Having you look up at him was really embarrassing for whatever reason. It was making everything a little bit harder.
“If Nahoya said something to you I’ll kick his ass.” You said, completely dead serious. Souya let out a relaxed laugh.
“Nah, he didn’t do anything. I just wanted to tell you something,” Souya said softly. Your hand on his waist was making him relax a bit.
“Of course, you can tell me anything.” You said softly, slowly coaxing him into telling you. He let out a soft sigh, warm air dissipating in the cold.
“Could you ever hate me?” Souya asked quietly. He honestly didn’t want to talk right now. He didn’t trust himself enough to make sure his voice wasn’t shaking. Hell, he almost wanted to cry.
“The hell kind of question is that? Of course not,” You said truthfully, letting out a small laugh at the absurd question.
“Really?” Souya asked, slightly baffled.
“The only way you could get me to hate you is if you fucked your brother. And I’m
pretty sure that would never happen,” You joked. At the thought, Souya visibly cringed which made you laugh. He let out a slight chuckle, he was becoming more and more relaxed.
“So, would you be mad if I told you I liked you?” At the sentence, both of your hearts’ dropped, fell onto the floor and died. Well, at least Souya’s did.
“I like you too.”
“No, no, like - not like that - as in I love you,” Souya explained, clearly thinking that you didn’t understand him the first time since you were so casual about it.
“Okay? I love you too.” You replied as if it should’ve been an obvious answer.
“N-No, no, like - ugh - okay.” At this point, Souya was just plain embarrassed that he’d have to explain everything in detail.
“Like, romantically! I have feelings for you romantically !” Souya exclaimed. He really wished he brought a scarf along with him.
“Yeah, I’m aware. And I-” You pointed to your chest, “-have feelings for you .” You directed your finger to poke at Souya’s cheek.
“No, you’re clearly not understanding-”
“For fucks sakes, dude.” Pulling him down by the back of his neck and the corner of his waist you planted a soft and quick kiss on his lips. Letting go of him you simply grinned bashfully.
“I’m very aware, Souya. I love you too.”
...huh?
“HUH?!” Souya shouted as if the truth hit him like a truck he fell back onto his ass. Instead of helping you simply laughed at him like a bully.
“What? Do you really think I didn’t have feelings for you too?” You asked, almost astonished. I mean, you flirted with him more than you drank water.
“What? What?! How the hell was I supposed to know???” Souya asked as if you just told him the most unbelievable thing in the world.
“...are you sure? You’re not fucking with me right?” Souya asked, starting to feel his insecurities bubble up in his throat.
“Souya, would I do the stuff I do with you to Nahoya?” You asked. That was a stupid question, you’d never do that stuff with Nahoya.
“Huh? Of course not,” You gave him a long and hard stare before the pieces slowly started to fit into the puzzle.
“Oh.” He whispered.
“Yeah, dumbass. “Oh”, is right.” You laughed, getting up from your seat and bringing him to his feet.
“You seriously had no idea?” You asked.
“No, I had no idea!” Souya exclaimed, hiding his flushed face in his hands. Now that he thought about it, you kind of were a bit on the flirty side. Only to him.
“Man, I didn’t think you were that dunce,” You said sarcastically with a whistle. He gave you a punch to the gut in retaliation.
“Jeez, dude! Don’t you know it’s abusive to hit your boyfriend?!” You whined, stumbling back onto your ass.
“...boyfriend?” Souya asked dumbly.
“What? Am I that unattractive that you don’t want to date me?” You teased. He instantly shook his head.
“You know damn well that’s not what I’m saying!” He whined, crossing his arms and pouting.
“Oh, did I upset the baby?” You snickered, grabbing the front of his jacket and pulling him down to your level on the floor.
“So? Are you going to pop the big question or what?” You asked, giving him the smuggest and shit-eating grin you could muster. This asshole .
“I hate you,” Souya spoke, attempting to get up and walk home without you before you wrapped your arms around him, preventing his escape.
“Come on, you can do it. I’m rooting for you!” You laughed as he hid his face in his hands, clearly embarrassed about the whole thing. Though, he did suppose he had to make it official. But he didn’t understand why it couldn’t be you to do it. He wasn’t cut out for this kind of crap.
“...will you be my boyfriend?” Ugh, cringe, gross, he wanted to throw up. Planting a sweet and short kiss on his forehead you smiled.
“I suppose so. Since I’m just that generous.” You whispered, clearly teasing him. Though, he couldn’t find it in himself to be mad. This had gone exceptionally well, a lot better than he had anticipated at least. So he was pretty happy about everything.
“You must be cold,” You mumbled, taking off your scarf and wrapping it around the two of you. He’d have to thank Nahoya later for buying such a long scarf.
“You’re too close,” Souya whispered, curtly avoiding your gaze.
“Boo-hoo,” You responded - kissing him again. The first time it was soft and short, but you lingered a lot longer. It was nice, kissing you that is. It made him feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside.
“Again,” He mumbled. Letting out a laugh you supposed you could pamper the princess. So for the next fifteen minutes, you stayed in front of the park bench, snacks and drinks about to spill out of the plastic bag as you shared your warmth. Kissing under the moonlight and happy in each other’s arms.
"No, they totally started dating," Nahoya whispered into his phone from the comfort of his empty living room.
"WHAT SERIOUSLY???" Baji shouted, his mother who yelled at him being heard faintly in the background of the call.
"I told Angry to go for it before they left right?? They came back with flushed faces, hand in hand, and bruised lips." Nahoya snickered, still laughing at the sight of his embarrassed brother who gave him a small thumbs-up as he gave him the drink he got from the store like he totally didn't just make out with you in a child's playground at 2 in the morning.
"Hah! Baji owes us all five bucks!" Mikey laughed over the phone.
"FUCK!" Baji groaned. He totally bet on you confession before Souya.
"L"
"Loser."
"Fucking dumbass."
"No wonder you got held back."
"Jesus fucking christ, fuck off my back for one second, damn," Baji whispered, the chorus of playful boos echoing in his ears. Though, they were all proud. They'd have to get you guys a congratulation gift or something.
