Work Text:
Five woke up in his bed in the mansion and immediately knew that something was off.
His muscles feel tense and sore like he’s been working out for hours yet he doesn’t think that’s the case.
What had happened yesterday? He remembered going out with his family. Claire had come to visit and they had taken her to a restaurant where she asked them about a hundred questions about their powers.
He made a face and got out of bed and made his way downstairs. Maybe coffee would help with his pain, he hadn’t even had anything to drink on account of not wanting to be a bad example for Claire so what was up with him?
He made his way to the kitchen and the coffee machine and yanked at the coffeepot like he usually did.
This time though he held the handle in his hand, the handle and a very big piece of the pot.
“What the…?” Five asked but before he could wonder more about what had just happened a scream came from upstairs.
And then all hell broke loose.
The scream was followed by an explosion and Five wanted to teleport up to see what was going on but his powers don’t seem to work.
What the hell is going on here?
Instead he ran upstairs to see what was going on.
Diego stumbled out of his room with big eyes.
“What’s going on?” Five asked
“Do you not see her?” Diego asked softly.
“Who?”
“The dead woman,” Diego said. “She’s r-right there!”
Five frowned. Diego was pointing at empty air.
“Diego…” he said trying to figure out what was going on. “There’s nobody here, what are you talking about? What exploded here?”
Vanya peaked out of Klaus’ room where she had spent the night. “It came from Luther’s room I think,” she said.
Klaus behind her nodding. “Yeah… guys what’s going on?”
“Let’s find out,” Five said and pulled Luther’s door.
Luther’s room was a complete mess, the records were scatter all over the floor and model planes lay on the ground his stupid motivational picture had fallen off the wall and the chair was on the ground.
Luther was sitting on the bed covering his ears frowning.
“What happened?!” Five asked
Luther looked at him and shrugged. “Everything got so loud all at once,” he muttered.
“Yes,” Five muttered. “There was an explosion or something.”
Luther looked around at his room as if he only just noticed the chaos. He shook his head. “No, before that… it was…” he made a face.
Five blinked. “One second,” he muttered. “What did you see?” he asked Diego.
“Uh… a woman? I’m still s-seeing here. She’s… she’s bleeding from her stomach.”
Five raised a brow and looked at Klaus.
“Oh… Oh,” Klaus said and held a hand to his head. “I should have noticed something was missing… that’s the bellyache woman. I think she’s one of the early nannies? Dunno how she died. I named her when we were like babies.”
Vanya snorted and then realized what he just said. “So wait. Does that mean Diego has Klaus’ powers?”
“Yes,” Five said.
“And… Luther has mine?” she asked pointing at their brother who was still covering his ears.
“I assume, yes,” Five said and looked at their brother.
“So we all… switched?”
Five nodded and walked up to Luther’s bed and picked him up. He expected there to be at least a bit of resistance, super strength or not Luther was a big man, but to his surprise Luther didn’t weigh more than a small child would have. He lifted him over his head and Luther yelped.
“Well this is awkward,” Luther mumbled.
Five grinned and put him back on the ground carefully. He wasn’t even the littlest bit out of breath.
“I assume so, yeah,” Five said.
“It’s so loud, is it always that loud for you?” Luther asked Vanya recovering from the shock of being carried, that hadn’t happened since they were children.
“You get used to it,” Vanya told him and shrugged.
“Never,” Luther mumbled and shook his head. “Hey do you hear that?”
“Probably not,” Klaus joked a little.
“It’s… the roof?” Luther said and ran off into the direction stumbling a little.
Five sighed as they went after him. They needed to figure out what had happened.
As they got closer to the attic Five could hear it too.
“Help, GUYS!”
Allison.
He stormed past Luther who was struggling with climbing the stairs and looked around the attic.
“Allison?”
“I’m here!”
It came from the roof. Fuck.
He ran up to the window. The others behind him.
Allison was sitting on the roof directly over them.
“Allison!” Klaus yelled. “What are you doing there?”
“I don’t know… I woke up here…” she said and looked at them. “I don’t know how to get down again.”
“Wait!” Vanya said and walked away.
“I think it’s fair to say that Allison got my powers,” Five muttered.
“I guess, yeah,” Diego mumbled.
“What?!”
“We’ll explain when your off the roof,” Klaus told her.
“Here,” Vanya said holding rope latter and throwing it up. It got perfectly stuck in the rain gutter. Well, Five guessed they knew where Diego’s power had gone to.
“Thanks,” Allison said and climbed down.
“So what’s going on?” Allison asked.
“Well…”
“We’ve switched powers,” Luther said sounding concerningly out of breath.
“What? I… how?”
“I have no idea. But…” Five sighed. “I have Luther’s, Luther has Vanya’s, You seem to have mine, Diego has Klaus’ and I’m guessing Klaus has yours and Vanya has Diego’s.”
“Oh!” Came from the door. “Oh, I made it all real again!”
They turn and there was Claire looking at them with big eyes.
“Made what real, honey?” Allison asked.
“The thought I had… I imagined what it would be like if you could all switch powers,” Claire giggled. “And it came real! Again!”
“Oh, sh… shoot,” Klaus said.
Five quietly agreed with him.
