Work Text:

It had been several weeks since they found out they were going to be parents, and Jiang Cheng watched his husband with an increasingly unsure expression.

Lan Xichen was just sitting on the last rung of the ladder, holding a map of the sky in one hand and another glow-in-the-dark star in the other, trying to find the right place for it.

"It really has to be such a faithful reproduction?" asked a slightly amused Jiang Cheng.

His husband merely smiled slightly, fixing the star in its proper place, and then looked down at him, tossing his hair over his shoulder.

"I want everything to look as good as possible," Lan Huan replied calmly, then furrowed his brow. "Are you sure you're not tired?"

Jiang Wanyin rolled his eyes, muttering something under his breath about heaven's mercy, then rearranged one of the plush dogs they had received as a gift from his sister earlier.

"If I get tired, I'll just lie down, stop panicking," he muttered some more.

"Are you sure?" asked Lan Xichen, stepping down from the ladder to approach him and embrace him tenderly. "You're still sitting on more projects, and I worry that you're working too much."

"I just finished screwing together furniture a while ago," snapped his husband in response.

Lan Huan blushed slightly and muttered something about wanting the best for him. For him and for their child.

"I know," Jiang Cheng stated, shaking his head in disbelief and placing his hands on his cheeks. "Just a little longer and you'll run out of credit card limits."

"That's not what I meant," Lan Xichen replied, and Jiang Cheng merely smiled at the corner of his mouth and kissed him gently.

"I know, silly," he muttered in reply. "Just stop worrying, I'm still able to design a simple wall, surely the houses I'm planning now won't collapse."

Lan Huan leaned down to rest his forehead against his forehead and closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on the quiet music they had on.

It was getting later and cooler, and there were gusts of cool, yet pleasant wind coming through the open window.

"I love you two," muttered Lan Xichen, smiling under his breath.

He was happy. Even happier now that they had actually finished getting the room ready. Full of bright furniture and motifs related to the sky and water, kept in soft blues and purples.

"Silly," muttered Jiang Cheng at that, kissing him lightly again.

They began to sway somewhat awkwardly to the music, still embracing each other lightly; finally, Jiang Wanyin rested his forehead against his husband's shoulder as he heard him humming a lullaby under his breath.

"Can we stay like this forever?" muttered Jiang Wanyin not quite clearly.

"We can," replied Lan Huan only quietly.
