A Date With Sleep

Summary:

Marinette has know Tim Drake for some time now. She also knows he works far too hard. Maybe she can get him to stop, even if only for a few hours.

Work Text:

Marinette was up and out early this morning. She was a girl on a mission.

And that mission, was a date.

Just a few months ago, she met a cute boy by the name of Tim Drake and boy was he a charmer. He didn't really seem like one that would go out of his way to try to woo a girl, but he had a nice natural charm that wasn't over the top, more subtle. Marinette liked that about him.

They got to know each other and they had a surprising amount in common. They both relied on coffee and caffeine far too much in order to still exist, they were insomniacs, they both had schedules that were full to the brim most of the time, and they both had overbearing expectations poured atop their shoulders that they had to bear in order to not let anyone down. It was nice to connect to someone on that level of understanding, someone who knew what it was like to carry the weight of the world and not be able to take it off in fear of some form of disappointment.

They got to know each other after they bumped into each other quite a few times, and they genuinely liked each other's company. So they continued seeing one another until it became less of simply seeing one another and more of a seeing each other.

She had the bomb dropped on her that he was actually a Wayne just last week. Of course he was worried that she'd react badly or try and take advantage of him but he was pleasantly surprised to see she was different from other girls and the only reaction to the news was a slow blink and she comprehended the information put on her before nodding and just thanking him for trusting her enough to entrust that little piece of info to her.

She really was perfect.

Marinette wore a nice peach pink pair of capris with a black t-shirt, printed with a pink rose in the center, and her blue-black hair braided to rest on her shoulder.

It was a casual date as neither her nor Drake preferred to dress all fancy-like for a simple coffee date.

She parted from her apartment in Gotham City, having moved from Paris just a year ago, and began her journey on foot to the Wayne Manor. She was early, but she enjoyed taking in the scenery of the city. For those who lived here their entire life, they could not possibly fathom why a young girl of her stature would dare go off on the streets even in broad daylight to look at the town that was infested with villians. But Marinette knew, even the darkest of places had sparks of light that shined brighter than most could see. Marinette loved the architecture and the color schemes and absolutely everything. It was such an inspiration for her. Paris lost its touch a long time ago so Gotham was a breath of fresh air for her whether people understood or not.

After a short stroll through the park on her way, Marinette made it to Wayne Manor. Walking up to the heavy doors that immediately opened upon her approach, an older man standing there with a pleasant smile on his face as he saw her.

"Welcome back Miss Marinette," Alfred, the Wayne's loyal, beloved, immortal butler greeted politely as always.

"Bonjour Alfred!" Marinette returned the greeting, a touch too energetic for this early in the new day, but Alfred appreciated her enthusiasm none the less.

He ushered her inside the great house till they reached the stair case, finding the second youngest Wayne already descending, wearing a red hoodie with a black hood and jeans, a tired look seemingly engraved to his features as he trudged down the grand stair case, his feet dragging slightly.

The black haired boys eyes landed on the small girl next to Alfred and suddenly his posture straightened and the deadbeat tired look in his eyes was replaced with a softer, fond look.

That was still deadbeat tired.

His eye bags were a dark purple color and his hoodie, obviously well loved, was wrinkled as if he slept in it more then once. While he suddenly gained a slight pep to his steps, you could still see the weight of sleep pushing his shoulders as he tried his best not to give in and sink to the floor with that weight and finally sleep.

Alfred greeted him friendly enough as he was used to this kind of behavior from the young boy who had far too much on his platter.

"Good morning Master Tim. Sleep evade you once again I take it?"

Alfred produced a silver platter from seemingly nowhere with his all-knowing God-like powers and handed the tired Wayne a cup of dark liquid. Coffee, dark brewed with an excessive amount of caffeine and no cream or sugar added by the looks and smell of it.

And damn it, Marinette wouldn't have it.

Tim did so much for everyone, can't they see he needed a break? Her date could wait, she needed to put her foot down and do something about this as he eyes raked over the taller, black haired Wayne.

Before a first sip of the scolding hot liquid could be brought to his lips and pour down his throat, waking him up even in the slightest, Marinette gently removed the mug from his hand, placing it back on Alfed's platter.

"He won't be needing that today Alfred. Thank you though," Marinette gave him a blinding smile of gratitude as he nodded and walked off, leaving the two young adults to figure things out and -Alfred prays- get Tim to finally sleep.

Tim looked after the drink of caffeinated goodness likely gifted from the gods themselves as it departed from the room, and in extension, him by Alfred. He turned to his girlfriend, a look of betrayal marrying his features at the unusual wicked act from the sweet flower that was her.

"Why would you do that?" And he really looked and sounded like a kicked puppy at that moment. Marinette was tempted to give in just at the sadness of his face.

But Marinette would not concede when he was so obviously desperately needing of sleep.

"I'm sorry," she started with, a plan forming in her mind as she took his hand, slightly calloused from his time wielding a staff and other gadgets yet softer than his siblings, "but we really have to get to our date."

Tim's eyes widened dramatically as if that thought hadn't yet drifted in his mind. With his sleepless daze and pack-full schedule, she honestly wasn't too surprised he forgot and did not blame him in the slightest. Although, he was usually very good about remembering her and that's all she could really ask for. It warmed her heart to think about.

"Of course, I'm so, so sorry it slipped my mind," Tim began, "I just need to take a moment to get properly dressed and I'll be ready to…"

He didn't get to finish his sentence as he found himself in an unexpected room. He looked around and found his sweet little friend had brought him to the family room. The couch specifically. He hadn't even realized that she had been dragging him.

"Why are we here?" He questioned Marinette, curiosity growing at her small, slightly mischievous smile.

"Well, I was thinking," she started, playing with his larger fingers as she bit her lip slightly, shrinking slightly as if she was hesitant to ask. He nodded for her to continue, "maybe for our date, we could take a nap?"

Tim Drake had seen a lot of weird things in his life, but hearing that had him blinking rapidly for a few seconds trying to comprehend the words that came out of her mouth as surely she did not suggest a nap as a date?

"A nap?" His face scrunched up slightly in confusion as he questioned his pretty girlfriend.

"Yes," she nodded enthusiastically, confirming that, yes that is in fact what she said.

"Why?!" The third adopted child of the Wayne's couldn't seem to find any understanding in why on Earth would she want to have a nap as a date?

Marinette took a deep breath, bringing out all the random knowledge she had on the subject, mainly from Adrien unsurprisingly, on why a nap is a good date.

"Well, as you know, I'm a very physical person," Marinette began her lengthy explanation, dead set on convincing her boyfriend so he could get some rest, "I love cuddling. And it's scientifically and psychologically proven that long terms of physical contact promotes trust. Cuddling with someone makes you feel more comfortable with them and it builds up trust and makes your relationship better as practically all relationships are built on the basis of trust!"

Tim nodded slowly, taking in the information his girlfriend was spouting out. Logically, he knew this was some kind of elaborate trap to get him to sleep. He wouldn't put it past Alfred to rope Marinette into some plot to get him to sleep. But at the back of his mind, he had to hand it to her. She was right. Adrien was one of her friends and he dated Damian's friend, Jon. He often found the two cuddled up somewhere whenever they came to hang out at the manor. They're relationship was really good and they seemed to trust each other completely, and most of their dates consisted of watching a movie with cuddles!

Drake sighed, not sure if this was a plot or genuine. All it took was one look in the blue orbs of Marinette's eyes though, the beautiful bluebell sparkling with something akin to love and care and the genuine want to help. But also curiosity. She was probably just as curious as he was on whether or not those facts she threw out faster than a cheetah could run held any truth in it. So like the good boyfriend he was,

He accepted.

"Let's do it."

Marinette's bluebell eyes glimmered with held back joy as she jumped up and down slightly on the balls of her feet, lip caught between her perfectly white teeth as she held back the true force of her grin. She pulled him over to the couch and he laid down, getting comfortable. He looked up at the girl that held his heart from the moment his sad tired eyes landed on her, and saw a brief hesitation in them.

"You don't have to, you know," he told her gently from his spot laid back on the couch, "but…" he opened his arms up so she could lay against him if she so desired too.

Apparently, that's exactly what she was waiting for as a smile lit up her porcelain features brighter than the lights upon the Christmas tree after Joker burned it down.

She snuggled into him as he carefully wrapped his arms around her. He felt a warmth within his chest bubbling at the proximity of her and him. A soft smile infected his face as he looked down at the smaller girl, her face becoming content as she faced him, a slight pink blush complementing her already beautiful face.

He pressed a gentle kiss against her forehead and draped the blanket that rested on the back of the couch atop them. He snuggled into her soft hair that shone blue in the dimmed light of the early morning and, for once, felt completely at peace. His eyelids grew heavy and he decided not to fight sleep this time, tightening his grip around his wonderful girlfriend who cared far too much for her own good and drifted into a peaceful slumber, between his arms, the girl he loved.

Bonus:

The sun peeked through the curtains of the room, a comfortable weight against his chest, and -for once in a long time- a feeling of being well-rested. He stayed still for a while longer, taking in the calming rise and fall of a stomach rested below his hand, the pleasant warmth of a body atop his, and the snickering of what likely was the annoyance of his siblings-

Tim's eyes suddenly shot open his brain finally registered the sound, stopping from flinging up as there was a girl resting peacefully unaware on him, he tilted his head towards the noise, spotting the annoyances that were his two older brothers snickering, Dick holding a camera and Jason covering his mouth as Dick snapped picture after picture.

They suddenly became aware of his awakening and gave him kissy faces as they quietly made fun of him.

He glared their way, knowing it would be useless to cause their departle. He still tried nevertheless.

He was surprised, pleasantly so, when the youngest of the Wayne's came into the room, his katana unsheathed, and gave them a glare of his own with his piercing emerald eyes.

The older boys rolled their eyes and left them in peace, with whines trailing after them of course.

Damian looked towards his older brother and Tim mouthed a 'thank you' towards him, although having not the slightest idea on why in the world he had helped him.

"I did not do it for you," Damian informed him in a stern tone, his nose tilted up in disdain, "I did it for Marinette."

And with that, Damian departed too.

Oh well, Tim would take what he could get. He snuggled back into the shorter girl and returned to the land of sleep.

He had trust to make afterall.
