Chapter Text

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Tony groaned as the sack was taken off his head. He looked around at his surroundings, not that there was a lot to see. They were clearly in some abandoned building - not very creative, in Tony’s opinion, but he guessed it did the job.

He’d already felt the absence of his watch and glasses before he’d regained his sight, so contacting FRIDAY was out of the question, and once again he considered the perks of getting a brain implant.

Pepper would never let him. Let alone Stephen, who’d probably get an attack if he’d even suggest - Tony groaned again, interrupting his own thoughts - Stephen.

Are you fucking serious?” he bit out at his captors once more, who he hadn’t spared his attention to previously. They seemed to be the usual assholes, a bunch of ugly faces - well, the one on the left wasn’t too bad, he supposed, though his hair was the wrong color - a hideous bleach blonde.

Back to the matter at hand, please.

“Yes, we are, Stark! You think your suit is so great, yet we managed to-”

“I was this close to finally talking to Stephen!” He continued rambling, his hands straining against the bonds on the back of his chair as he tried to accompany his words by his usual hand gestures. He wasn’t the least bit interested in what these idiots had to say; he just needed to vent, really. The entire morning had been spent nervous and tense, waiting until it was time to head over to the sorcerer for their monthly coffee date -

Update. It wasn’t a date. It had just been unfortunate on Tony’s part that he’d started to develop feelings for the stupid doctor. Not that Stephen was stupid… he was brilliant actually, smart as a whip and twice as cutting. Never mind his gorgeous blue eyes, pale skin and dark hair…

God fucking dammit.

Pepper finally - finally - convinced me to put myself out there - she knows Christine, you see, .. .well knows, more like knows, if you catch my drift, so I’d assumed she’d at least have some kind of valuable insight… anyway-,”

“Wait, weren’t you dating Potts?” The blonde one asked, immediately being punched in the shoulder by one of his comrades for speaking up.

Tony rolled his eyes at him. “That was years ago, idiot, do you not read gossip magazines?”

“Anyway she’d finally managed to convince me to talk to Stephen … and then you kidnap me from my car! Which better not have a scratch on it by the by, because it was my favorite-,” Tony turned to face the smallest of the crew, a scrawny kid who couldn’t be much older than 25, “You know, making a great impression is key, and Stephen likes cars. Driving in it not so much though-,”

“Why not?” The second one from the left asked, clearly invested in the story. Tony didn’t quite care. This kidnapping was so weak he almost wished it was the least bit more exciting. Perhaps then it would actually help him get his mind off of Strange.

Oh god, what if this was a sign?

What if this was the universe’s way of telling him not to bother? A way to save himself from the embarrassment of getting shot down by Stephen?

“It’s none of your fucking business!”

“Enough!” The one who was clearly the leader finally spoke up, taking a step closer so he was right in front of Tony. Tony looked up at him in defiance, hoping the annoyance was still clear on his face. “Stark is right… but what is our business however, is where he keeps his pretty little arc reactors.”

“Seriously?” Tony sighed up at him, resignation coursing through him that yes, his day was in fact ruined for something as stupid as the fucking arc reactors. Old fucking news. “I mean I get the appeal… you know, Stephen’s eye color is almost exactly like arc reactor blue…,”

He swore he could hear someone coo at his words, Tony didn’t quite care. When the leader slapped him across the face he didn’t quite care either.

When familiar bronze sparkles appeared in the corner of his vision, that’s when things finally got interesting. The portal formed quickly, followed barely a second later by no other than Stephen Strange himself in all his gorgeous glory.

It honestly took Tony’s breath away more than the punch had.

“Dude-” Tony glanced towards the blonde one. Stephen was already focussing on taking down most of them, which wouldn’t take long with his magic, so Tony merely leaned back and relaxed, hoping he still looked at leasts a little bit presentable after this whole ordeal. “-that’s him, right?”

“Yup,” Tony answered with a pop, right before Stephen turned towards him and the last captor standing next to his chair. “Don’t worry he won’t kill you, he doesn’t do that kind of stuff.”

Tony barely caught the blonde’s slight relief, before Stephen’s whips were knocking him unconscious and throwing him through the portal towards his favorite police station.

He watched as Stephen glanced around himself before confirming that yes, he’d beat up everyone there. Honestly, he really was gorgeous, with his chest barely heaving after the exertion and his hair not a breath out of place.

“Hey, Stranger.” Tony opted for their usual banter. He’d have to try again tomorrow. Or maybe not at all. Though he doubted Pepper would let him get away with that. “I think I will be running late for our meeting, something came up.”

“Clearly.” Stephen rolled his eyes, turning his gaze on Tony and running it over his body to check for injuries. “Anything banged up in there?”

“Nah.” Tony shrugged. “Though it would be very much appreciated if you untied me. Unless you have some other fun activity in mind.”

“Maybe another time,” Stephen easily reflected with a wink that did not make Tony’s knees weak, smirk edged into his cheeks as he twirled his fingers. The ropes around his wrists and legs immediately dropped to the ground and Tony stood up from the chair, rolling his neck to work out the kinks.

“One really gets too old for this kid of shit. How did you even find me?”

“A simple spell…”

“Did you steal my hair, asshole?”

“… borrowed it?” Stephen squinted at him, and Tony realised with a pleasant jump of his heart that they were standing closer together than he’d anticipated. “You know, heroes usually get thanks for freeing the girl, not complaints about their methods.”

“The girl?” Tony raised his eyebrows in question, dropping his voice a few notes. “Well I guess for you I could be. Though I’m not sure what hero content you’ve been consuming. Might need to check credibility before I just throw myself at some random-”

He got cut off by Stephen’s lips on his, his scarred hands gripping at his sides as he pulled Tony in. Tony moaned pleasantly into the kiss, hands finding their own way to Stephen’s neck as he deepened the kiss.

Maybe the universe was on his side after all.
