"You seem overly excited, Kagami-kun."
"Oh, am I? Sorry 'bout that," said Kagami, looking at his friend Kuroko with a wide grin that would make normal people rip apart their face muscles. Just a second ago, class 2-B finished their last lesson and everyone was readying themselves to go home or rush for their club activities and while Seirin's basketball club had a day off, Kagami was surprisingly still overjoyed, even though normally the redhead would sulk at the thought of not being able to play and train with his teammates. This day was an exception.
"It's about Aomine-kun, isn't it?" A question from the phantom 6th player still sounded more like a statement than an inquiry and Kagami, despite expecting it, felt his cheeks warm up at the sound of Touou's Ace name. He quickly finished packing his things and swing his back behind his shoulder, tucking free hand deep into his pocket, where his fingers latched onto his phone.
"Is it really that obvious?" he asked, little bit embarrassed (as if the faint dust of pink on his cheeks was anything to go by) and then chuckled genuinely when he saw a simple nod from his friend. "Well you see, today is our first year anniversary and—"
"Really? Time flies fast."
"—and yesterday Daiki said he has a surprise for me, so I gotta hurry home and prepare," Taiga said, skipping down the stairs, taking four steps at once with his long legs and jumping power. There was a bit of silence as he still waited at the end for Kuroko, who went down one step by another, like any normal human being.
"Remember to use protection." Was all the light blue haired teenager said when passing by Kagami and went straight to the school exit, leaving the redhead to wonder what was that supposed to mean. It took him seconds before he finally understood, face turning fiery shade of red.
"N-Not liKE THAT, KUROKO!"

"Are we there yet?" Kagami asked, feeling the strong and firm hands of his one-year-long boyfriend leading him in unknown to him direction.
"Not yet, just few steps more. And stop picking on the blindfold!" The redhead got his own hand quickly slapped away (albeit softly) from his own face, where he tried fto peek from under the blindfold for the nth time. After meeting at their usual spot, Aomine asked him for permission to put on a blindfold. Which permission, of course, got acquired since Kagami trusted his boyfriend immensely. Then, they walked forever in Taiga's opinion, on all kinds of soil, from grassy ground through gravel to typical city pavement, turning left and right several times, up until this moment, when they finally stopped Aomine turning him to the side one more time.
"Okay, you can take it off."
Seirin's Ace quickly untied the cloth covering his eyes and took it off completely, squinting at the brightness around him as he tried to look around. He instinctively turned his head to his right, where he felt Aomine's arm brushing against his, but those beautiful stormy blue orbs he loved so much weren't focused on him, but on a monument standing right in front of them. So Kagami's gaze followed, his stomach dropping heavily when he managed to read the washed and worn out words carved out on a marble tombstone.
"Hi mom... Dad..." A soft murmur came from his right where Aomine stood, his shoulders slouched. But even though Kagami could clearly see sadness in his eyes, a small, warm and affectionate smile on his thin lips persisted. "Uncle and Auntie Momoi are very kind for me still. I'm trying to be better for them, because I know I've been kinda bad in the past. For Satsuki too. I'm doing fine in school, trying to keep up with the classes and the club, that's why I hadn't been visiting those past few months. And I've met someone." The bluenette tore his eyes away from the monument to look right at Kagami. "This is Kagami Taiga. My friend and basketball rival, and..." This is when the redhead looked back at Daiki, long and tanned fingers intertwining with his own. "...my boyfriend. For a year or something. After you died... I wasn't myself. I was broken, saw the whole world in shades of gray. But then Taiga appeared. He found me, gathered my broken self and helped me put my life together, piece by piece..." Aomine's voice faltered as his head hung low and Kagami instantly squeezed his hand, shuffling just a step closer. He wanted to cheer his boyfriend up, to show him he's not alone, that Kagami's here for him. But he also wouldn't want to stop Aomine, giving him space needed to continue.
After another few seconds, the bluenette took a deep, shaky breath and raised his head high, tears clear in his eyes, like first droplets of rain from storm clouds.
"I love Taiga," Aomine said, raising their intertwined hands to his chest. "He's the light in my life, brings back all the colours and emotions. I play basketball and I can smile again, all because I'm playing with him and... A-and I—"
There's a quick spasm tugging Aomine's lungs and he can't talk anymore, breaking into a silent cry. But it doesn't matter, because Kagami is here for him, to ease his pain, to hold him close, to lend him his shoulder to cry on, to kiss his hair and temple, and ear, and everywhere he can reach.
Once Aomine calmed down enough to stop crying, they both peel themselves off of each other with Kagami kissing off the wet trail under Daiki's eyes. Then, he turns around back to the tombstone.
"Thank you for giving life to Daiki. I promise to treasure it, so please let me take care of your son," Kagami said with all seriousness in his voice and on his face, bending in half into a deep bow.
They both stay at the graveyard for a little longer, both in silence doing their prayers, until Kagami's stomach growls loudly and Aomine laughs, Kagami chuckling softly right after. Together, they decide to leave the place and head out to a restaurant, where Aomine booked a table for them. They go smiling, hands intertwined and shoulders brushing against each other.
Because they know that no matter the circumstances, they will make it as long as they have each other.
