Work Text:
It was a cold winter night and Takemichi was with Draken and Inupi, helping close up shop. Between the three of them it didn’t take long. Soon they were on their way to Mikey’s for a sleepover, when they walked past an alley and heard weird sounds coming from some garbage bags. It sounded like a baby?
Exchanging looks, the trio walked into the alley to find out what was making the noise. It was a baby. Draken, who had been abandoned by his own mother, was the first to speak.
“Who the hell would leave a baby out here in the cold?!?”
Takemichi could understand his anger, the least they could have done was leave the baby somewhere safe instead of them in the trash in the middle of winter.
“What do we do? We can’t leave them here.”
“It’s pretty late, we’ll take them with us and then drop them off at the police station in the morning.”
That seemed like a pretty reasonable plan, especially since Mikey’s house was closer than the nearest police station. So, Takemichi picked the baby up and started rocking it to calm it down before heading down the street to the Sano household.
When they knocked on the door, Mikey answered, asking them why they took so long, before stopping and staring at the sleeping bundle in Takemichi’s arms.
“Uhh, we found a baby.”
Izana came around the corner looking bewildered at what Takemichi just said and honestly, you can’t blame him.
“You found a what?!”
“A baby,” Draken replied.
Mikey reached forward to take it, having not taken his eyes off the sleepy babe since he saw. Takemichi let him and he immediately cradled it towards his chest as Izana walked forward to look over his shoulder.
“It's so tiny.”
“Of course it is, it’s a baby,” Takemichi told Mikey as soft laughter spilled from his lips and a fond smile plastered itself on his face. Izana was staring at it in awe too. Sometimes, he gets so caught up in them being gang leaders and delinquents that he forgets that they’re kids too, Izana just turned 19 this past August.
“Hurry up and come inside or else you’ll catch a cold. We’re having chanko-nabe for dinner.”
Everyone turned to see the Sano’s grandfather standing in the doorway of the living room with Emma and Shinichiro. It seems like smiles are infectious in this house, as Takemichi could see the corner of his lips curl up as he turned away from them. Shinichiro and Emma were smiling too.
“Kay!”
All of the boys filed out of the genkan and into the dining room and Draken closed the door, while Emma was cooing over the baby as they all settled down to eat. Takemichi started smiling even wider as all he could think was that he really loves his family.
