Cradled By Your Comfort

Summary:

In Season 2 Episode 6 of Hospital Playlist, it's said that Gyeoul wasn't feeling well the night Jeongwon stayed at her place. This is how the story goes.

Notes:

I was listening to Reese Lansangan's song called "Home" when I came up with this idea. You should check it out.

Also, I dedicate this to my WinGar moots who are always spiraling. Here's to hoping that we're going to be fine during and after episode 8 tonight.

Disclaimer: I haven't proofread this yet since I'm running on 4 hours of sleep so I'm sorry if there will be grammatical errors.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Yah, Gyeoul-ah, gwenchana?” Ikjun asked when he saw her at the nurse’s station arranging the charts, “You look pale today.”

“Ah, ye, Gyusonim, I just have a bit of monthly abdominal pain.”

“Aigo, take it easy. Don’t overwork yourself and stay out of the GS office to avoid the other gyusos.”

This made Gyeoul smile, “Yes, Gyusonim.”

Who is she kidding? Of course, she’s still going to stay there since she still has a lot of things to get done. She gets menstrual cramps every month but the pain varies from time to time. This one that she’s currently having in particular is slightly affecting her work performance as it is on the extreme side. Since the anaphylaxis incident 2 years ago, she has avoided taking medicine for it and just tries to endure the pain.

Jeongwon is now on the way to Songhwa’s office for their scheduled lunch. He has been at the OR all morning, doing back-to-back surgeries. It really is difficult to be the only pediatric surgeon in a massive hospital like Yulje but he still finds fulfillment because he gets to help a lot of kids to be at their best shape. He is yet to see his girlfriend today because they are both busy attending to their respective duties as doctors. He messaged her before going into surgery but didn’t get a message back. He knows how busy it can get for her so he didn’t make her lack of response a big deal. Since the start of her fellowship, he has seen her less and less since they have different specialties, which is making him miss her more. Thankfully, they still get to hangout at each other’s places when they are both not on duty.

As he walks down the hallway, he hears a noise coming from Songhwa’s office. There’s a loud incoherent shout from someone, possibly Junwan’s, followed by a laughter.

When he opened the door, he was welcomed by another one of Ikjun and Songhwa’s weird antics.

‘Ah these two are always beating around the bush’ he said to himself while shaking his head.

“Yah where is Seokhyeong-ie?” he asked Junwan who was preparing the food at the table.

“He’s having lunch with his resident today.”

As soon as Ikjun heard this, he immediately went to the middle seat to join the conversation.

“Yah, don’t you think Seokhyeong-ie perhaps fancies uri Chuchu?”

“Who is Chuchu?” Junwan asked.

“Chu Minah sonsaeng” Songhwa answered his question as if it’s a no brainer.

“Haa, Kim Junwan, you’re always late with the news.” Ikjun nags.

“Or I’m unlike you who gets into everyone’s business.” Junwan argues.

“Yah, meokja!”, Jeongwon told his friends who are starting to get into one of their petty arguments.

After they finish eating, they stayed for a bit at Songhwa’s office to decide on the song that they’re going to play this week.

“How about Superstar by Lee Hanchul?” Songhwa asked.

“Hm, joa.” Junwan responded.

After deciding the song, they got ready to leave Songhwa’s office

“Kanda.”, Junwan was the first one to bid his farewell before going out of Songhwa’s office.

Ikjun was about to follow Junwan out of the office when he remembered something.

“Yah, Jeongwonah, uri Gyeoulie seems like she’s in a lot of pain today. I know you two haven’t seen each other today so I’m taking the liberty to inform you.” Ikjun told Jeongwon, who in response looks alarmed.

Jeongwon checked the time and sighed, ‘She’s probably in Prof Kwon’s surgery by now,' He thought to himself.

“Thank you for informing me. And please stop using uri Gyeoul-ie.” he told Ikjun with a straight face.

“Is that how you treat your cupid who informed you that your girl is in pain, you ungrateful prick.” putting his hand on his chest, pretending to be hurt. “Arasseo, saekkiya, go find her.”

“She’s in surgery right now assisting Prof Kwon.”

“Haa, Jang Gyeoul, not even an abdominal cramp can stop her.” Ikjun stated, impressed by her dedication.

“Don’t forget to treat her with extra care today.” Ikjun reminded him, being the concerned appa that he is.

“Arasseo.” Jeonwon answered, “You don’t have to tell me. You know I always do.” he continued, “I’ll get going now. I still have a lot to do.” with that, Jeongwon is out of the office.

“Chae Songhwa, how much will you bet that Jeongwon is going to steal Junwan’s chocopies to give it to Gyeoul?”

“I’m 100% sure he’s going to,” Songhwa snorted, “Hey, it’s not going to be a bet if we’re both on the same team.”

On the way to his office, Jeongwon found himself hoping that Junwan is not inside their office. He’s planning on stealing—no, borrowing—some of Junwan’s chocopies. Luckily, Junwan wasn’t there when he entered so he successfully got a couple of chocopies to give to Gyeoul. He checked his watch and it’s almost time to see his outpatients so he didn’t have time to give it to her personally and she’s still probably inside the operating room. He just opted to drop by the GS office and put the chocopies inside her locker with a little note. ‘Let me know if you can’t handle the pain. I’ll take you home right away and find someone to cover for you.’

After putting the chocopies and the note, he texted her, “Go check your locker in the GS office after surgery. Text me if you need anything^^.”

Once Gyeoul was out of the OR, she read the text from Jeongwon. She wonders what he has in store for her. She hurriedly went to the GS office to check. When he saw the note and the chocopies, she immediately felt warmth spreading in her chest. He always knows how to make her feel better even with simple gestures. She picks up the chocopies and sat down on one of the chairs there to devour this sweet treat. She texted him right after, “Thank you for this. It made me feel a tad bit better ^^.”

After Jeongwon was done with his outpatients, he saw her text and immediately rode the elevator to get to the floor where the GS office is, hoping to catch his girlfriend. Once out of the elevator, he bumped into Seokhyeong. “Yah, have you seen your girlfriend?” Seokhyeong asked him quietly, “I ate lunch with her and Minah and it looked like she’s in a lot of pain. I told her to at least use a heating pad when she’s on a break but I doubt she has one. Maybe you should get one for her. I think there’s one in the pharmacy downstairs.”

“Arasseo, I’ll go buy one now.” he told him and went back to riding the elevator down to purchase a heating pad. Once he got what he needed from the pharmacy, he got a call from the emergency room saying that he is needed there. Luckily, he saw Ikjun come out of the optician shop. “Ikjun-ah,” he called for his attention, “Can you please give it to Gyeoul? I got a call from the emergency room so I won’t be able to give this to her.”

“Aigo ya,” Ikjun responded, “Don’t worry, I’ll give this to her. Hwaiting!”

After their exchange, Ikjun goes to the GS office. When he opened the door, Gyeoul is sleeping with her head on the table. It must be uncomfortable for her so he contemplated if he should wake her up and tell her to go to Jeongwon and Junwan’s office to lay on the bed there and rest. Before he can make a decision, Gyeoul woke up and saw him. “Annyeonghaseyo, Gyusonim!” immediately standing up to bow and show respect.

“Aigo, you should sleep some more or better, go to your Jeongwon's office to rest. That way, you wouldn't be interrupted by other gyusos.” Ikjun stated.

“Animida.” she smiled at him.

“Here take this.” giving her the heating pad.

“Kamsahamnida, Gyusonim, you didn’t have to.”

“Don’t thank me. I’m just the deliverer.” Ikjun told her, “Jeongwon was the one who bought that but he got a call from the ER so he instructed me to give it to you.”

She nodded after knowing this, “Still, thank you, Gyusonim.” Pouting a little because she wasn’t able to get a glimpse of Jeongwon. She got her phone and texted Jeongwon, “I got the heating pad. Thank you for your efforts. See you later^^.”

After seeing her text, he immediately went to his office to change. Both their shifts are about to end anyway so he should be able to get his car from the basement parking lot. He called to inform her that he’ll be picking her up at the entrance of the emergency room so she didn’t have to go all the way down to the basement.

Gyeoul sees his car pulling up, just as she's walking out of the ER entrance. Sometimes she wonders how come they haven’t been caught yet but her guess is everyone is too busy working that they don’t have the time to think about the dating status of their co-workers. However, she already warned him about going down the car to open the door for her. She understands that he is chivalrous but he doesn’t need to do that to her because she got her own hands to do that.

As soon as Gyeoul is in the car, he kissed the side of her head briefly.

“Are you okay now?” Jeongwon asked pouting, “I’m sorry I couldn’t meet you the whole day. I tried to but there are a lot of patients that needed tending.”

“It’s okay, Gyusonim! I was also busy for the most part so you don’t have to feel bad.” She gives him a peck before continuing, “I also feel a bit better now thanks to the chocopies and heating pad that, according to my sources, is from my boyfriend.”

“Oh is that so.” He smiled at hear teasingly

“Hmm.” she only hummed in response

After their small conversation, he started to drive to her apartment.

Once inside her apartment, Gyeoul immediately went to the bathroom to take a shower while Jeongwon headed straight to the kitchen to prepare their food. They’ve grown accustomed to this routine—Gyeoul taking a shower while Jeongwon cooks their dinner. Sometimes they would eat outside and then just hangout at her place or his right after but she’s not feeling completely well today so Jeongwon decided to take her home and just cook their meal.

Jeongwon was already preparing the table when Gyeoul got out of the room. She decided to blow-dry her hair instead of letting it dry naturally since she’s almost positive that she’s going to doze off right after their meal.

“Thank you for the meal!” Gyeoul said to which he only hummed.

They started eating and talking about each other’s day.

Once they are done, Gyeoul insisted in helping him clean and that she’s already feeling better but Jeongwon is not having any of that. Normally he would let Gyeoul help him but he knows how tired she is and how painful her cramps must’ve been the whole day so he prohibited her from helping, telling her that she could help next time but she needs to rest right now.

“Gyusonim!” Gyeoul exclaimed a bit annoyed.

“You need to rest, Gyeoul-ah.” he told her before giving her a soft yet tender kiss.

As Jeongwon washes the dishes, Gyeoul started reading some of her notes while resting on the couch. She already feels bad that Jeongwon is doing all the cleaning tonight so she opted to accompany him by staying on the living room instead of retreating to her bed.

After washing the dishes, it’s now Jeongwon’s turn to go to the bathroom to take a shower. They need not to inform each other about things like this since they’ve been doing this for a couple of months now. Of course, it didn’t just happen. But they gradually learned how to be comfortable with each other’s presence in their respective spaces.

After showering and getting dressed, he was welcomed by a sleeping Gyeoul on the couch with a bunch of notes on her hands. She must’ve been so tired from her shift and enduring her menstrual cramp. Jeongwon, who didn’t want to wake her up, carefully removed the notes from her hands and picked up her sleeping form, bridal style, to move her to the bed. Since she wasn’t that deep into her sleep, she woke up after noticing the forearms at the back of her neck and knees.

“I’m sorry for waking you up. I just wanted to transfer you in a more comfortable place to sleep.” Jeongwon pouted when he saw her eyes open.

She just smiled at him in response

He laid her down the bed and went to the other side to lay down so he could cuddle her to sleep.

She laid her head on his chest and hugged his waist and thought to herself, 'Is this what home feels like?’

Jeongwon on the other hand, just finished setting an alarm for when he needs to wake up and go back to his apartment. He hugged her tightly and kissed the crown of her head. ‘I can’t wait for the time where I don’t have to leave your comfort anymore.’ he thought to himself, with his proposal on his mind.

Jeongwon woke up 5 minutes before his alarm. After checking the clock on her side table, he quietly detangles himself from her embrace as careful as possible to not wake up her sleeping form. Once he successfully did, he went to the bathroom connected to her room and brushed his teeth. Jang Gyeoul being used to having awareness on her surroundings, was woken up by the sound of running water.

“Is it time for you to leave?” she asked with a sleepy voice once he’s back on her room.

“Hm, you should go sleep some more.” He sat down on the bed to caress her hair, which earned him a grateful smile.

“Ne, Gyusonim.”

After hearing her reply, he leaned in to kiss her forehead, down to her nose, and finally on her-

Gyeoul covered her mouth, “Gyusonim, I still have morning breath.”

Jeongwon only chuckles, removing her hand from her mouth.

He puts his lips on hers, kissing her upper and lower lips alternately.

He smiled after separating their lips, satisfied.

“Go sleep some more.” He reiterates, “See you later. Call me if you need anything I’ll go back here immediately.”

Gyeoul nodded, “Ne, Gyusonim.” voice still laced with sleep, “Go drive safely.”

“I will.” he caressed her hair once more before standing up and leaving.

After he closed the door, Gyeoul went back to sleep but this time, with his warmth surrounding her heart.

“Annyeonghaseyo, Gyusonim!” Gyeoul greeted Junwan as they pass by each other in the hallway the next mornig.

“Oh annyeong.” Junwan replied nonchalantly but then he remembered something.

“Dr. Jang, are you feeling better now?”

“Ah ye, Gyusonim.” Gyeoul replied, confused as to why he suddenly asked.

“If you ever need chocopies or anything, you can always tell me, arasseo?”

“Ah ye, kamsahamnida.” Gyeoul smiled at him, but still confused.

What Gyeoul doesn’t know is that Junwan is planning something. ‘I really have to get on her good side so I could live with them when the time comes.” Junwan thought to himself.
