Work Text:
Estelle was scared, more than she had ever been before. She was usually very brave, but having to tell this to her family was definitely one of the hardest things she had ever done, but she had to do it. She was in love and had been secretly dating for 2 years now, she couldn't wait longer. Estelle was also conflicted, who should she tell this to? Her parents? They were definitely the part of family she had the most contact with, but she was to afraid they would kick her out if she told them, even if she had a plan in case of that happening. Who else could she tell this to? Maybe her brother, they didn't talk much, he is 34, 17 years older than her, was married, had his own children and a job to take care of, which didn't allow him to have much time to do anything else. It had been almost a year since the last time she saw him and about 3 months since the last time they talked in the phone, but she decided he was her best option, he was younger which probably make him more likely to accept her and that way it was also saver and easier, since she would be telling him by the phone. So, she called him:
- Hello? Estelle?
- Hi, Percy. I called you because I need to tell you something...
- Go on.
- I am... I am dating someone.
- Oh... I'm happy for you, hope you are happy – she wondered if he would still be happy for her if he knew who she was dating.
- I really am. We have actually been together for two years now.
- Two years? Why haven't you told me yet?
- Our relationship is a secret...
- Why? Do mom and dad not approve your relationship? I can talk to them...
- No, Percy, please don't tell them.
- Estelle, what is happening? Why are you keeping it a secret? - Estelle gathered all her bravery to tell him.
- Percy, I am dating Luna, I think you have met her before.
- Yeah, I've met her... But Estelle, that is great, our parents seem to really like her... oh, wait, are you scared to tell them because she is a girl?
- Yes, I was scared to tell you too, I am glad that you took it well, and I am happy that you don't hate me.
- Estelle, I would never hate you, especially not because you like girls. You know that, right?
- Percy, I love you, but I don't really know you that well...- he had moved out to study in New Rome shortly after she was born and got married just a few months after graduating. Therefore, she never got the opportunity to truly get to know him. She knew about his adventures as a demigod, the monsters he battled, the wars he won, the hero he is. But she never got the chance to truly get to know who he is, and he never got to know who she was. He didn't even know she had clear sight, she actually never told that to anyone. She also knew Percy's wife, a woman called Annabeth, who was the love of Percy's life, the person who accompanied him on his adventures and who truly understand everything he went through and who he truly is. They had been married for years, she remembered how happy she was to be the flower girl on their wedding. For a minute, she dared to think about of one day getting married and starting a family with Luna.
- Estelle... I'm sorry...
- Percy, it's not your fault, you have your own life and your family to take care of, I understand that.
- Estelle, but you are also my family...
- I know, I'm happy that you are my brother, and I'm glad you accept me, you are the first person I'm telling this to.
- I'm happy you told me, I'm sorry if ever made you think I wouldn't accept you or that I don't love you, and I'm sorry I not present in your life, I never intended for that to happen...
- It's ok, Percy, I know you didn't. I know you tried, but our lives just went separate ways, and it's ok, you are a demigod, a hero, and I'm just a mortal our lives were never meant to be lived together.
- Estelle...
- Just don't tell mom and dad, please.
- Ok, Estelle, but I know they will accept you. If you want to you can wait and tell them when I visit you and if anything, ever happens, know that you will always have a place in my house.
- Thank you, Percy, I'm grateful for that. I will wait to tell them when you come to visit. I love you.
- I love you too, Estelle.
Estelle was glad she told Percy, that he accepts her, that he loved her, maybe she would finally tell him about her clear sight, she never felt like she was a part of Percy's live, maybe that was the one thing that would finally bring them together. What she didn't knew was the true reason they were never truly close and the consequences of them becoming closer would bring upon the world. Apollo was right, her curiosity could truly change the world.
