Work Text:
Sam is still not sure how he was convinced to walk into a Walmart in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, but he sure as hell knows he's not happy about it. No. Scratch that. He knows exactly how he was convinced to walk into a Walmart in the middle of a Saturday afternoon, but that does not mean he has to be happy about it. Bucky said something about being able to blend in with the crowd and that going to the store would help them avoid being seen. It wasn't that they mind signing autographs and posing for pictures, but sometimes they just want to pick up a few groceries and get home. And it was just so much harder to maintain anonymity since Sam became Captain America.
So Sam is walking up and down the same three grocery aisles waiting for Bucky to return from the pet section. Sam had texted him that he would be in the bread aisle, but it has been like 10 minutes and no sign of Bucky or no return text message. Sam knew it was a bad idea to leave Bucky alone with so many options for toys for Alpine. Bucky is fully incapable of leaving the house without returning for something for that cat. Honestly, Sam is considering finishing the shopping and just going home. Bucky can find his own way back home.
"Will a Mr. Samuel Wilson please come to the customer service counter? Will a Mr. Samuel Wilson please come to the customer service counter?"
Sam stops walking and puts his head down as his audibly sighs. He knows what this is about. It has to be Bucky. Sam takes his time going through a checkout line. If Bucky took this long getting pet supplies and is having him summoned by customer service, he can wait a little longer so all Sam has to do is retrieve him and leave.
"We again ask that a Mr. Samuel Wilson please report to the customer service counter?"
Ok, now the customer service agent is sounding irritated and that leaves Sam with a feeling of annoyance. He didn't even want to be in a Walmart on a Saturday afternoon, thank you very much. Sam takes their cart with their few grocery bags and walks toward the customer service counter. As he approaches the customer service area he sees Bucky on a bench looking chagrined.
"Why didn't you just answer my texts instead of having me paged over the PA system like you're some sort of lost child?"
"Well, I...I sort of forgot my phone at home."
Sam can't help but think that Bucky's lucky Sam loves him as they walk to the truck.
