Nobunaga woke abruptly from the mighty roar of thunder. He looked beside him and saw his wife peacefully sleeping. He softly caressed your cheek with his fingertips, careful not to wake you. He couldn’t help but smile warmly at you. You were his whole world, his everything. Honestly, he loved you more than life itself.
He got up from the warm futon and walked out onto the balcony. He looked up at the blood moon and couldn’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia rush over him. He smiled up at the moon as the scene around him started to change.
4 years ago, a young Nobunaga stood on the balcony of his room in the Honnō-ji temple. He looked up at the blood-red moon. He was feeling so tired. He was sick of everyone telling him what to do, sick of all the judgement, sick of being called a demon, a devil, a monster, sick of all the noise, he wanted it to end. He has been trapped in this castle for a long time, a lonely man sitting on a throne built on pain, blood, death and destruction. He just wanted it to…. stop.
He saw them move in the shadow of the night. Coming for his head. He felt the poison they had placed in his food, course through his veins. This time he would choke on his own pride, this time, he would give them what they wanted. I deserve this, he thought; I have done so much evil to reach my ambitions. He looked at the moon once more, sending up a silent prayer to be released from the chains in this castle. He climbed into his futon and stared at the ceiling, replaying every evil deed he had ever committed in his mind. His eyes prickled with tears as he started to lose consciousness, “No, I won’t cry,” he thought.“I don’t deserve to cry after what I have done, besides none will mourn my death, so why should I”.
You woke up in the middle of the night, and nothing has changed. You still felt the pang of loneliness. You couldn’t remember the last time you didn’t feel numb and empty. Sadness and anxiety seemed to rule your life. Your heart, body, mind and soul felt broken. You walked out onto your apartment’s balcony and stared up at the blood moon. Every minute passing felt like a living hell, you were sick of feeling used, of feeling battered and bruised, sick of building a fortress around your heart to keep everyone out.
No, you wouldn’t cry, there was no use crying about it. How many tears have you already wasted crying about the same old things. No instead, you put on your running shoes and hit the streets. You ran and ran and ran. It felt fitting, running in the mists of a massive lightning storm. Almost like nature itself now represented the turmoil in your mind. You sent up a silent prayer as you looked up at the blood moon once more. Just as you thought the last word of your prayer, a bolt of lightning struck down in front of you. Everything went blurry, and before you knew it, you were surrounded by smoke and fire.
You narrowed your eyes to see through the smoke and spotted a handsome man sleeping. Above him, a sword hovered held by an enemy ninja. You acted without thinking, screaming at the ninja and throwing your running shoe against his head. The ninja scurried off, he knew there was no escape for the devil king and that he would surely burn in this fire.
Crimson eyes opened wide and looked at you. Looking into his eyes was like looking straight into a mirror. You helped him up, and the two of you escaped riding back to the castle.
Both were broken, both wander their way through life.
That was until you found each other. A bond was formed stronger than space and time itself. Perhaps the universe had heard the unshed tears of two lost souls and decided to reunite them with each other. Or maybe it was just dumb luck that the two of you ended up together.
Things weren’t easy, breaking down each other’s castle walls. Walls built on fear, pain and the mistakes of the past. Freeing each other from the chains, that ensnared you, trapping you in this castle. You took comfort in each other’s warmth and understanding, slowly dissipating the darkness which covered you. You allowed the other to cry and share their pain. No judgement no condemnation, just pure love and endearment
Slowly but surely, the two of you built. Built a new home for both of you, one based on a new foundation. Made entirely of love, trust, and understanding. Nobunaga had found his queen, and you had found your king.
Nobunaga smiled at the blood moon and sent up a silent thank you. He turned around and peered into the darkness of your shared room. His ears perked up when he heard two tiny feet pattering their way across the room to where he was standing. “Daddy, I had a nightmare, can I sleep with you and mommy tonight?”. Two carmine doe eyes stared up at Nobunaga. He smiled at his son and crouched down, opening his arms to embrace his tiny boy. Pudgy little arms wrapped their way around Nobunaga’s neck and a tiny nose nuzzled into Nobu’s cheek. Nobunaga lifted his son into the air and held him tight in his arms. He kissed the boy’s chubby cheek, taking one more look at the moon, before turning back into his room. Nobunaga placed the tiny boy down on your shared futon, he didn’t waste any time nestling himself into the arms of his beloved mother. Nobunaga climbed into the futon and wrapped his arms around his sweet little boy and beloved queen, heart filled with so much love and warmth. Nobunaga closed his eyes with a happy smile plastered across his face, despite all the struggles, trials and tribulation he had finally found his home in the two beloved people sleeping peacefully in his arms.
I hope you liked it, love! And I hope you are staying safe and well! 😊<3
