She comes back suddenly, without warning, the details of the trip seemly too unimportant to share and he is happy, really, it’s not perfect but it’s happiness.
She looks through him, “You have regretted my absence”
He pulls her into a hug, “I’ve missed you, yes”
“I am pleased by that”
He closes his eyes, once her lack of humanity made him bitter.
Now, warm breeze strokes his hair, reminding him to be grateful for what he does have.
Now he has learned not to expect the world to be perfect.
He offers his hand to her, “Let’s go home”
