Work Text:
The rain pitter pattered onto the car, and although the sounds were drowned out, Bruno could hear each drop that hit the car roof like his ear was pressed right up to it. He looked beside him, rubbing his eyes, at the sleeping figure. Leone and him were sent to search for a particular dealer who was rumored to have a Stand that could distribute their stash safely without any link to themselves. Fugo, luckily, had dug up information on their Stand and they were told to watch out for blue hues of light in a back alley of sorts. These would mean the Stand is emitting the little lights and then they themselves could track down the user.
Bruno was supposed to go alone before, but Leone wanted to tag along because he figured his Moody Blues would be useful in this sort of situation in case the user escaped after spotting them. They weren’t in their usual clothes to avoid suspicion, which made them much more relaxed than they should be in a situation like this, drowsy almost. Leone was asleep, even after he said he’d be up all night - Bruno suppressed a smile at that - his head had tipped the moment it hit four.
He observed his surroundings yet again, for the indication that any action would be happening, but no movement except the rain all around the car. The digital clock in the middle of their seats read four fifteen - he supposed he could let the taller sleep for five more minutes. His eyes drifted to Leone, whose hair strands obstructed Bruno’s view of his face, but still, the slow heaving of his chest proved that he was sound asleep, without a care in the world. Bruno was glad he decided to catch up on some sleep in this quiet car waiting to ambush a person, because they’d all been working their asses off to get a foothold as Passione’s topmost, and sleep was a delicacy they rarely got enough of.
A lightning bolt suddenly interrupted the silent environment, and Leone’s head shot up, eyes immediately shooting towards Bruno, who also had gotten quite a scare, previously focused on his thoughts and searching around for any signs of a Stand.
Leone relaxed once the fact that it was just lightning sunk in, and readjusted himself on his seat, properly looking at Bruno. “How long was I out for?”
Bruno was planning to answer Leone before he saw the glimpse of a bright blue dot at the corner of his eye. He craned his neck to look at it as subtly as he could, as he was meant to be a civilian who couldn’t see Stands. It was a tiny humanoid being, carrying a small packet. Letting the Stand roam in the rain freely meant that it could be remote controlled, or the user was already aware they were being tracked. Regardless, Bruno took the bait, getting out of the car with an umbrella, after warning Leone to be wary of his surroundings, of course.
He noted as the Stand paused, completely still, with the packet of whatever sitting beside it. He made it a point to not look directly at the Stand, as it seemed to be studying him, and picked up the packet. He jammed it into his coat pocket and left a couple euros onto the wet alleyway’s road, which would cover the cost of the packet, and got back in the car. This was the part where he was supposed to drive away, but he made an act to be surveying the packet with Leone and supposedly talking about it, whereas he was waiting for the Stand to make a move. He had unzipped only a part of his finger in the middle of the notes, so that it wouldn’t feel too heavy. Leone’s hand momentarily grazed over the void that existed inside the zipper that was wrapped around his pointer finger, and Bruno blinked at him. The other threw him a half smile.
As soon as he sensed movement, he turned his head to the side and saw the Stand ushering itself away. There it was, going into a derelict alley a little further in the back. It disappeared into a door with the money.
“Let’s go,” Bruno told Leone, who lifted his hands off his, opening the car door, and in an instant, they were in pursuit of the Stand user. They peeked into the door, a creepy and dimly lit garage of what seemed to be a restaurant. The blue Stand comprised at least five of those little humanoid creatures, and the user menacingly stood behind them, a threatening look on his face. “Whaddya want?” he rumbled.
He had short, grey hair, and sported a blue jacket with leather pants.
“Sticky Fingers!” Bruno yelled, pointing at the man, and his legs fell, unzipped. The man’s torso fell onto the floor, with him screaming. Leone poked at his hand, reminding him of his finger, which he ducked down to find. The man’s arms fell as he tried to grab Bruno’s legs. Leone smirked at him, “Thought we couldn’t catch you, did ya?”
Bruno fished his finger out of the bill, attaching it back, but then he frowned. The Stand was still stationery, as if unaffected by its user getting attacked. He was about to point this out to Leone when one of the blue creatures grew and hit him square on his chest, making him fly back and hit the wall beside the entrance with an oof. “Bucciarati!” Leone rasped, and then grimaced at the man, who was fumbling over his words. “Bastard… What did you do?”
“We...We…”
“The Stand…” Bruno clasped his chest and stood up, watching Leone summon Moody Blues and punch the creature that grew. It let out a howl of pain and transformed into a man with nearly identical features as the other man that was unzipped by Bruno. They both put two and two together and understood - the man had disguised himself as his Stand, and his Stand as himself, and due to there being multiple parts to his Stand, he wasn’t affected.
Leone gutted the man, who doubled over and fell, bloody and sputtering. The taller spared a glance at Bruno, who let him finish the job. Moody Blues disappeared and Bruno watched the little blue dots fade away, expelling a thick smoke in the process. The death of a Stand.
Coming towards him, Leone caressed his face, observing a scratch that was bleeding. He supported Bruno as they walked out, with their mission ended. Bruno leaned in a bit more, breathing in Leone’s scent, his aura - and he felt at peace. Finally, the fight was over. Now they could go home and sleep.
