Chapter Text
It was an extra long day at school today. Sitting at your desk doodling for hours and hours on end while your teachers mumbled on about the importance of the subjects they were teaching. Thankfully you were in the very last class of the day, your favorite class in fact. You looked up from your notebook at admire Nanami's features. He wore his signature suit as always, wearing a blue variation of the tie he always wore.
"Y/N... Y/N!"
Your cheeks flushed as his booming voice called out your name, bringing you back to reality. You sat up straight, your cheeks and the tips of your ears burning as you gulped.
"Y-Yes Mister Nanami?"
"I asked you a question, Y/N. What is the most important aspect of a mission?"
You squirmed in your chair at the handsome man's use of your name. You cleared your throat, trying to be as professional sounding as possible.
"T-The most important aspect of a mission.. is the safety of yourself and others."
You gave your answer almost a questioning tone at the end, mentally cursing yourself for the stammering.
"Precisely! Good job Y/N."
You tapped your fingers on your legs happily, reliving the praise he gave to you over and over again. You tried to speak up and answer all of his questions for this reason. You loved the feeling you got from it. His booming voice and stunning smile gave you intense butterflies. But it was merely an inappropriate fantasy.
The bell brought you back to reality from the depths of your fantasy. Signaling school was finished for the day. You slowly stood up and gathered your things in your backback, wanting to stall in case he asking something of you.
"Y/N, can you stay after class? We need to talk."
And just like that, you got butterflies. Your plan had worked, and now you were walking up to his large desk with beet red cheeks.
"What did you need from me, Mister Nanami?"
You questioned shyly, watching as he got up and leaned on the corner of his desk across from you. He peered down at you over his reading glasses, different from the ones he usually wore.
"Well, we need to talk about your grades. Your techniques are quite a bit behind the rest of your class, and im worried you wont pass. Is there something going on that's distracting you?"
Your eyes widened as you noticed his forehead wrinkle in worry. You quickly shook your head and looked down at your uniform, hoping he wouldnt notice the redness in your ears.
"Well, not really sir. Some days its just difficult to focus at the end of the day, thats all."
"Oh, so me and my class isn't exciting enough for you now?"
He chuckled softly, flashing that smile once more Your eyes widened as you looked back up at him, frantically shaking your head as you put your hands up.
"Oh n-no Mister Nanami! In fact, this is my favorite class! I truly do want to make up for my lack of progress."
"Then i would like you to come with me on an impromptu field mission early tomorrow. You'll be getting the entire day off as I don't know how long it'll take."
You were totally shocked. A field mission with only you and Nanami? This was an absolute dream come true! You quickly nodded, immediately agreeing to this once in a lifetime offer.
"Great. Be up at 7AM sharp tomorrow and come to my office. Make sure to rest well tonight, being sleepy is very dangerous during a mission."
You both stood up and he walked you to the door, checking the time on his watch. You turned around and handed him the homework of the day.
"Thank you so much sir! You absolutely won't regret this."
You smiled as you waved goodbye, walking off down the hall towards your dorm room as you heard the soft click of the classroom door shutting.
What you didnt hear, however, was the loud groan that escaped Nanami as he leaned against the door. He collapsed into his desk chair, running a hand through his usually perfect hair. He leaned back, staring at the classroom ceiling above. You looking up at him so innocently... he couldnt get the image of you out of his head. He smiled, not daring to admit to himself just how excited he was for the mission. Tomorow couldn't get here sooner.
