Knock, Knock.
"Yes?"
"Master Jean? It's Amber.. you called for me?"
The acting grandmaster stood from her seat as she responded to her guest, "oh, please, take a seat, Amber."
Once she entered Jean's office, she did as told as she sat in front of her desk. The blonde sat across from her as she let out a heavy sigh. After all her years knowing the Dandelion Knight, Amber was already well aware of her habits and limits in work.
"Jean? You seem a bit tired, would like me to get you some coffee?"
Jean shook herself awake, her pale blue eyes meeting Amber's as she spoke with dignity, "I'm alright, thank you. Actually, I would like your help with something."
The outrider practically jumped out of her seat, her eyes full of passion as she replied instantly, "of course! What can I do to help?"
The blonde just laughed beneath her breath before saying with another sigh, "It's.. Eula, again. A few knights that I've dispatched for patrol spotted her leaving the city, and on top of that, she hasn't recorded her disappearance on the time sheet. I'm worried she could've gotten herself in some sort of trouble, and it'll be harder to find her once the sun falls."
Amber's eyes widened, and her heart felt like it fell down to the pits of her stomach.
Eula.. could be in danger?
She swallowed hard before nodding to the dazed grandmaster, earning her attention as she was already making her way towards the door.
"There's no need to worry, Master Jean! I promise to find her before nightfall."
And with that, the Outrider took her bow and arrows, and rushed out of the city to find the lost Spindrift Knight.
"Hah... ugh, where could you be, Eula...?"
Almost an hour had already passed, and Amber had run into far many more uninvited enemies than she had expected. Sweat trailed down her temples as she struggled to catch her breath after yet another ambush.
She felt her teeth begin to grit as she clenched her fists against her knees. Her body was growing weak and tired after all her work throughout today, but she still had yet to find Eula. She was disappointed in herself, and the endless worry that was rushing through every corner of her mind certainly was not helping.
"E-Eula.. Jean... I'm so sorry I-I disappointed you all..."
As tears began to drip down onto her lap, she suddenly heard footsteps against the grass beside her. She slowly raised her head, expecting another enemy to come and attack her, but her teary eyes widened as she saw a familiar face staring down at her with a curious stare.
"Amber? I'll admit, this is unsightly of you- huh..?"
Once Amber heard that familiar arrogance in Eula's sharp voice, she leapt towards her as the two fell onto the grass. Amber still had her face buried in Eula's neck as she began muttering things to her.
"Eula.. I'm so glad you're safe..."
She just laid there silently as she tried to tell herself in her mind that she wasn't becoming flustered, but her flushed red cheeks immediately proved her wrong. The Spindrift Knight cleared her throat, her eyes avoiding Amber's curious ones as she spoke quietly.
"Wh-Why were you looking for me again? Did Master Jean order you to spy on me?"
Amber's eyes widened as she replied, "not exactly.. she told me you had gone missing without warning, and so I was dispatched to look for you."
The two slowly sat up on the ground, and Eula was still having trouble holding her bearings as she spoke. "I see... well in that case, care to join me?"
Anber's eyes lit up in curiosity, and the bright red covering Eula's cheeks compelled her to follow along.
"J-Join you...?"
A small chuckle filled the air and lingered in the Outrider's ears. She gulped hard, and although she had no idea what was happening, just being alone in this moment with Eula had her heart running laps.
Eula extended a hand out, which Amber was happy to take. She lead her up the grass hill, which Amber nearly tripped on because of her shy staring at the Spindrift Knight in front of her.
Once her eyes drifted to hers, just then had Amber realized how bright the gold in Eula's eyes shined beside the falling sunset.
Eula's lip tugged into a smirk, and she let out a relaxed laugh before tugging onto Amber's arm and pulling her in close.
"Something catch your eye, Outrider?"
Mischief pooled in her irises as she stared down amusingly at the now blushing Amber in front of her. Their faces were only inches away now, and Amber could barely catch up with how fast everything had moved in just seconds.
Lip pursed, voice silenced, eyes widened.
Her heart was beating so quickly, she was afraid Eula could hear it pounding just for her.
"E-Eula..."
As Amber tried to take a slight step back to steady herself, her weight shifted and she was about to tumble down the hill if it wasn't for...
"Watch your step!"
She had braced for impact, but when she opened her squeezed-shut eyes, she found herself still and safe in Eula's arms. Her back arched slightly as she wrapped her arm securely around her waist.
"Oh..! Th-Thank you..."
Eula said nothing in reply. She silently just gazed into Amber's wavering eyes, as if she was studying her like her etiquette.
"Eula-"
"Thank you for looking for me today, Amber. I... appreciate it."
Finally, Amber let her tension loose and let a bright, wide smile spread across her face.
"Of course! Whenever you need me, I'll be there!"
But only after closing her eyes for simple seconds, she had not anticipated anything out-of-the-ordinary to occur.
Until she felt a softness press against her lips, and the warmth of one's breath brush against her cheek.
However, she felt no sort of uncertainty or shock. She definitely had not expected this, but it all just felt so right, and the short hum that slipped past Eula's throat as they kissed only confirmed that this was as perfect as a moment could be.
But to Amber's disappointment, the moment was short-lived. She felt the Spindrift Knight's warmth pull away from her, and as they both opened their eyes just to meet one another's gaze, they both realized just how long the other had been waiting for this.
"Th-This.. is my vengeance..." Eula managed to mutter as she pressed the back of her hand against her quivering lips.
Amber stifled her laugh, the heat from her cheeks spreading down to her neck as she reached forward and pulled Eula's hand away from her face and onto her own.
"You're so cute.. talking about your vengeance during something like this."
The Outrider smiled before leaning in even closer, the heavy breathing of Eula beside her clearer than ever. A breathy laugh left her lips as she whispered into her ear:
"I'll gladly be your vengeance."
