‘’What do humans do on Halloween, Eddie?’’ Venom swirled around his human, Eddie took a sip from his coffee, cleared his throat, he knew what was going to happen… ‘’Well… Kids dress up as monsters or super heroes… Maybe just general things from their imagination.’’
Venom nodded, ‘’why?’’
‘’It’s fun.’’
‘’What about the adults?’’
Eddie exhaled loudly, ‘’they party’’, Venom took all this new information in.
‘’And… Eat candy…’’ He took a brave sip, Venom swirled closer to Eddie’s face, ‘’like chocolate?!’’
‘’Yes, like chocolate.’’
If venom could express anymore emotions than what Eddie felt him experiencing, he’d probably burst.
‘’Eddie~ Eddie~’’ Venom put on his sweet voice, not that it ever got him anything, but wouldn’t hurt to try anyways.
‘’No.’’
‘’I want candy’’
‘’We-‘’ he pointed between them ‘’-can buy candy at the store… Like normal people.’’
Venom took a moment to think, his grin was unsettling, Eddie feared.
‘’But we’re not normal people, Eddie.’’
‘’Oh, I'm well aware of that…’’ He took a deep breath, he wasn’t going to win this one, he could already tell.
‘’I can be your costume Eddie~’’
Eddie, now frustrated, walked over to the sink and put the dishes in, he’ll do them later, his usual Halloween plans normally involved watching horror movies with Anne… But, well.
He didn’t even like horror movies, in fact he despised them…
Sulking Venom sunk back into Eddie, he hoped this was the end of it… But he knew better than that… Venom would never give up anything involving chocolate.

‘’Thank you Mrs. Chen-‘’ Eddie smiled, she smiled back, and tried to look behind his back, ‘’no Venom?’’
‘I’m always here.’ Venom answered, Eddie smiled to her, ''he’s sulking today.''
‘Sulking?!’
‘’Oh, would he like some choco—‘’ But before she could even finish her sentence, Venom was out, grinning… It was amazing how little it seemed like Mrs. Chen cared about well… What Venom was.
The alien smiled and twirled around like a super excited puppy hoping for a treat, she held out her hand and he very carefully took it out of her hands, no saliva this time, ‘thank you’ he practically inhaled the sugar bar, ‘’he says thanks.’’
She smiled, and they went on their way.
‘’Are you happy now? Tch’’ Eddie adjusted his ear piece, so it looked like he was talking on the phone and not himself like some sort of lunatic… I mean.
‘I love her.’
‘’You love her chocolate and tater tods, not her.’’ Eddie climbed the stairs to his apartment, loud music blasting from his neighbour, Eddie sighed but decided that, since it was Halloween… Nah.
He knocked on the door, he knew there was no use because there was no way anyone could hear anything through all that noise… And yet…
‘’What do you—‘’ The young adult pulled the door open and stopped in his tracks, ‘’I’ll t-turn the music d-down, I'm sorry-‘’ He slammed the door, ‘rude’ Venom groaned, Eddie nodded in agreement.

‘’Eddie?’’
‘’Mmmyeah?
‘’On this magazine… It says that watching horror movies is the top date activity.’’
Eddie frowned, ‘’yeah, I guess…’’ He didn’t want to think about it… Anne was probably not. Not that it mattered ofc, she had Dan and he had--
‘’Wait, did you say date?’’
He felt Venom warm up and then snuggled closer, Eddie felt his entire face burst into a warm feeling, ‘’can we watch any scary movies?’’
‘’I-I'm not actually a fan of those-‘’ Eddie smiled awkwardly, ‘’I just don’t like them’’ he shrugged, Venom thought about it before nodding confidently, ‘’I’ll protect you.’’ He had decided, and Eddie had no choice in this… Hopefully it wasn’t a very scary movie like maybe… Silent Hill? That was kinda vanilla… Maybe he could convince Venom to watch something that sounded and looked like horror, but was actually wholehearted and—
‘’Eddie’’
It pulled him right out of his thoughts, ‘’yeah?’’
‘’I can hear you’’
Right... He keeps forgetting about that.
‘’Ah… Heh, ok but not a very scary one, ok? We’ll chose together… Ok?’’
Venom smiled and nodded excitedly, ‘’yes yes yes!’’

Night time, it was time for the movie selecting and Eddie was not looking forward to it at all… Netflix had a few movies that he could consider a scary, maybe even nightmare type of scary, movies. But Venom had promised that they would choose them together and this was gonna be ok… Right? Right??
‘’Venom… Have you found anything you like? And no, not that one, thank you… I know what that’s about, and honestly, I’d rather die, please.’’
Venom’s smile disappeared, it was ‘human centipede’, and well… No.
‘’Fine…’’ The symbiote sighed.
‘’I like this one’’
‘’Nightmare before christmas?’’ Venom looked at his beautiful yet idiotic boyfriend, even if said boyfriend didn’t know they were boyfriends…
‘’No.’’ Venom didn't even look at Eddie.
‘’What? Why not?’’
Eddie could feel the stare, ‘’fine.’’
They went back and forth for what felt like an eternity, ‘’I give up, I'm just gonna do what I've been avoiding to do.’’
‘’what's that?’’ Venom asked curiously.
‘’Heey, Anne… Are you busy? Right now? No? Okay good, well… Yeah yeah Halloween, movies and all that… mhm, right so-‘’
‘Ask her ask her!’’
‘’I'm working on it, shut up-‘’
‘’Eddie?’’
‘’Oh, sorry it was for—‘’
‘’Venom, yeah I gathered, so what’s this about?’’
‘’…We’re gonna watch a horror movie’’
Silence.
‘’Anne?’’
More silence.
‘’…Hello?’’
He heard the phone getting picked up again, ‘’alright so—‘’ Anne continued as if she hadn’t just left without saying anything, Eddie exhaled.
‘’I looked up scary, but not too scary for you, but maybe exciting enough for Venom—‘’
Venom smiled and moved around all happy, Eddie rolled his eyes, Venom always acted like Anne was the mom that he could rant Eddie out to… Which in a way was true…
‘’Ok, I’ve sent over a few suggestions…’’
He heard his phone chime, ‘’thank you lots’’, he was about to end the call, ‘’and Eddie?’’
‘’Yeah?’’ He waited, he heard her take a deep breath, he knew she felt the same loss as him… Maybe one day all four could watch a movie on Halloween… But that wouldn’t be in a few years for sure.
‘’Have fun.’’ She finally said, he could hear her smile, ‘’you too, Anne. Say hi to Dan for me.’’
‘’Will do, oh, and bye Venom’’
‘bye mother-‘ Venom smirked, like the little parasite he was, ‘’he says bye’’ he frowned at him.
After they hung up, Eddie looked at his phone while Venom rummaged the bags and cupboards for movie snacks like popcorn, chocolate, all the other types of candy that Eddie pointed out at the store, that was the classical snacks.

‘’And you promise this isn’t scary?’’
Venom nodded, Eddie closed his eyes and just let Venom choose… Yolo, isn’t that what people say?
The movie started interestingly, a spooky book, a tired mom, an autistic kid who's just trying to help, but can't find the right words or actions to convey them and rather gets in trouble which ofc causes trouble for the mom and—
‘’So far I'm very into the story’’ Eddie nodded to himself as he shoved popcorn into his mouth, had Venom really chosen a movie that was more plot than horror? Ah… Awesome.
Venom was in body shape and had, somehow, managed to slide his arm across the back of the sofa and around Eddie’s shoulder… He had to take away or, lock his computer… put a children lock it… Before he knows it Venom is gonna look up porn or… Hentai… Eddie had a full body shiver, Venom looked at him, slightly confused, he clearly was too invested into the story to pay attention to Eddie’s mental ramblings.
‘’I have a feeling that book is trouble…’’ Eddie noted, Venom nodded.

‘’Eddie’’
‘’mmm?’’
‘’What is she doing?’’ Venom sounded genuinely confused, the mom had some personal time under the covers, thinking about her dead husband…
‘’Well, she’s—‘’ Before Eddie could finish the sentence, both of them had a small jump, the shape of… Whatever that thing is, landed and… Oh…
‘’…Eddie?’’
‘’I don’t know.’’
The mom screamed as her kid came and she saw that the shape was gone, she realised what it was.
‘’Burn the book, I would’ve burned the book.’’ Eddie noted, Venom tightened his grip around his human, ‘’I’d protect ~’’
Eddie swallowed dryly, that was cheesy, and he couldn’t deny he liked it.

‘’Oh no… No no no- I don’t like this.’’ Eddie shook his head, Venom wasn’t sure if he liked this scene either… Awh… The dog… No…
‘’I didn’t like that scene, Eddie.’’ Venom frowned.
‘’I don’t think the writers like that scene either- Whoa!’’ Eddie suddenly screamed, he bolted so far back into the sofa he was sure he was gonna pass through it, luckily Venom was there… Well, it wouldn’t be possible for Eddie to go though solid objects to begin with.
The monster stood in the doorway and had just stretched his razor-sharp claws, Eddie would’ve probably laughed at the scene if it weren’t for the fact that he was seconds away from pissing his pants.

‘’… What. The. Fuck.’’ Eddie made a grimace at the end scene, ‘’ok, no that’s, no.’’ He shook his head, he turned the movie off, ‘’that was… Scary… But doubt I’ll have nightmares from it.’’ Eddie chuckled lightly.
Venom agreed, he got up and picked Eddie up, ‘’whoa?! What are you doing??’’
‘’Trick or treating.’’ Venom said matter-of-factly, ‘’but—‘’ Eddie was placed in front of the door, a bowl in his hand, Venom ??? Eeled his way under the door and stood on the outside…
‘’Alright then…’’ Eddie whispered to himself.
He heard a soft knock on the door, this was almost like some sort of weird role play…
Eddie opened the door and almost had a heart attack, he fell on the floor, face paler than vanilla ice cream.
‘’Y-You piece of s-shi—‘’ He pointed at Venom… Who had formed his face to look like Babadook.
‘’Trick or treat’’ Venom smiled, Eddie got up on and put a bunch of candy in the bowl Venom held, he closed his eyes, he did not want to look at that face any longer than he had to.

Later that night as Eddie twisted and turned in bed, he kept seeing the movie… Seeing that… Thing.
‘’Eddie?’’
‘’I can't sleep.’’
‘’…’’ Venom surged a heavy sad feeling, Eddie patted his shoulder where Venom morphed to, ‘’it’s ok, Venom… After all’’ He held the spot harder, ‘’you're here to protect me, right?’’ He smiled softly.
‘’Yes, Eddie.’’ Venom smiled, ‘’now and forever.’’
