Gibberish

Summary:

Two new students transfer into Tokyo High, and it falls to Kagome, who can tell that there is something unnatural about the duo, to show them around and acquaint them with school life and customs in Japan. And with a misspoken word, a whole bunch of chaos is unleashed with her at the epicenter. And to her, she swears; all she hears is gibberish.

Chapter Text

Kagome wondered why the Kami hated her. Her eyes were trained on the sky outside of her classroom window, watching the clouds idly make their way across. A week ago, there had been an odd rippling of power throughout all of Tokyo. She knew it was not natural and was probably the only person to really feel it and understand it was potentially dangerous. She didn't need this. She just wanted to complete her three years of High School and return to Feudal Japan.

But nope, that ripple of power had come back to haunt her. The day she felt it, Kagome knew she should have gone and inspected it. Now, she knew what it was. This morning her teacher introduced two new students as transfers from England. She had spared them a glance before minding her own business and drawing her aura and Horiki close to her person.

She knew instantly that the duo wasn't what they were passing themselves off to be. In fact, the taller of the two she couldn't believe was passing as a freshman in High School. While the other was near her height, he looked to be twelve. But that could be par for the course with how most Japanese natives looked. To make it worse, her teacher, Mrs. Urimeshi, had called her name and instructed that because she was the Freshman Representative for Class 1-D to be their guide and show them around until they were familiar with the school.

The close proximity had her wanting to scream and pull her hair out by the roots. There was no mistaking the heavily muted feeling from the dark-haired guy, Sebastian Michaelis. Nope, after spending almost a whole year traversing Feudal Japan, she knew that feeling just like she knew the back of her hand. He was a demon, old and powerful. And it sickened her to realize that the young man next to him, Ciel Phantomhive, had the Demon's Youki radiating from under his eye patch, meaning he had a contract with the Demon.

But Kagome had been the good girl she was expected and had done as told. Taking them around the school, explaining where things were, and other such things. Their English was different from what she had been taught in Middle School. More archaic is she had to describe it. But they both spoke Japanese reasonably well. And she didn't want to know how either; the less she knew, the better.

Her biggest issue was that Sebastian had taken to standing as close as possible, brushing against her. He had started after she explained that it was considered rude and offensive to grab someone without their permission in Japanese culture, especially if you didn't know them. And, of course, her Horiki was tied to her emotional state. So trying to remain calm while keeping her power hidden was not easy. In fact, she wondered if this was the Kami's idea of a cruel joke. There had never been a demon in her time before; why now?

Hearing the bell, Kagome put her books into her bag, slipped her pencil case into the side pocket, stood, and left the classroom swiftly. She wanted to get to the shoe lockers and get the hell out of the school. Not feeling either of the two new students' auras, she felt relieved. Glad that they were potentially holed up due to the other students wanting to talk to them, ask questions. Or the teachers asking how they liked their first day of school.

Upon reaching the first floor, Kagome kept herself from running, noticing that it was empty except for a few other students. It was Wednesday, so most of her fellow students were heading to their club activities. Kagome felt the tension she had started to melt away as she relaxed and went to her locker. It didn't take her long to switch shoes and grab her school bag as she shut her locker.

"Good grief, if I want to be in hell, I'd have gone through the gate personally. Demons be damned!" she muttered to herself as she turned around and went pale.

There standing between her and the doors that would lead to her freedom were Sebastian and Ciel. The former grinning darkly as his dark eyes glowed a faint red.

"That is a funny thing to say, Miss Higurashi. What would you know about the gates of hell and demons?" he asked, his voice a deep solicitous purr.

Knowing there was no way to get around it and using the fact she grew up on a shrine that still practiced the Shinto beliefs would sound lame. Even if it was the legitimate truth?

"Sebastian, don't tease her," Ciel said. "Though I do agree with you on what she would know about those particular subjects."

Unable to stop herself, Kagome groaned and hung her head. Knowing if she tried to leave without answering, it would only cause the Demon of the duo to be more interested. And she really didn't want to entice a demon into a chase that wasn't a chase. Knowing when to admit defeat, Kagome lifted her head and glared at the two, frowning. But she didn't care; she didn't need this crap or them bothering her.

"My duties to you, gentlemen, are done. I have duties I must attend to at home. I will see you tomorrow in class," she said, keeping her voice polite as she gave them a bow at the waist and moved around them.

She knew by the spike of Youki from Sebastian that he wasn't going to let this go. And she silently prayed to the Kami that he'd not follow her home... At least not today. This was not something she wanted to explain to her family. They were unknown, and she was now in deep and with a means to dig herself out.
