In Which Hol Horse Babysits Jolyne

Summary:

what the title says: hol horse babysitting jolyne at the beach

takes place in a fun little au my bf and i came up w/ like a year and a half ago that explores if hol horse continued being a character in the series (providing he didn't die from the dio brain bud thingy)

Notes:

in honor of Stone Ocean being announced and the fact that I'm likely not going to write anymore of this in the foreseeable future I figured I should probably post this. Imma be real tho, i haven't read part 6 so if this directly contradicts canon I'm not aware of I don't give a shit

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Hol Horse was having a good day. A great day really. Lounging on a beach chair under an umbrella, watching the pretty girls in bikinis playing in the blue water, sipping on a mojito. A truly great day.

Until.

A little ways down the beach a small girl with twin buns on the top of her head was screaming bloody murder while tugging on an absolute wall of a man. The man didn’t seem to notice the tugging or the screaming as he continued walking up towards the beach entrance and parking lot. As the two got closer to Hol Horse the child's cries became clearer.

"Daddy promised! Daddy promised I!"

"No Jolyne, it's 'daddy promised me' not 'daddy promised I' and the only reason we came to the beach was for daddy to work on his stupid PhD and he forgot all his stupid notebooks in the motel room so now we have to go back for them."

"But we never go to beach! If we go an' come back you'll say i's too late to play in ocean!"

"'The beach', 'the ocean', don't forget the 'the's because English is a stupid language that requires articles. If your mother was here with us she could have stayed and watched you but she decided she wanted to go shopping so here we are."

Hol Horse really wished that the father/daughter duo would either walk faster or get quieter. The screaming child was really harshing his mood and all the women were starting to look over with concern which was suboptimal for picking one (or more) up for company. As though possessed by the ghost of a decent human being, Hol Horse opened his mouth.

"I could watch her, sir. I wasn't planning on leaving the beach for a few hours and I don't mind watching the little ankle-biter."

The wall of a man turned and faced Hol Horse head on for the first time and Hol Horse felt his heart sink through his stomach and flop onto the sand beneath him.

Hol Horse honestly did his best to not think about Lord DIO after everything went down. It was easily not a highlight of his life and -like most- he'd rather not dwell on how close he came to death multiple times. That's not to say he didn't use Emperor or anything like that, a gun that never runs out of bullets that he didn't have to check through airport security? Yes please, no matter the cost or associated memories.

But lo and behold, the wall of a man before him was none other than one Jotaro Kujo, whom, among other things, was the man who killed Lord DIO.

Easily the most terrifying man he's ever met.

That was being screamed at by a small child that could be none other than his daughter.

That he just offered to watch.

Jotaro Kujo was looking at him.

Staring at him.

Glaring at him.

"You'll watch my daughter?" Jotaro's voice was as calm as it had been while talking to Jolyne, which is to say, slow and patient like talking to a child. Despite his calm exterior, Hol Horse couldn't help but notice the tightening of his muscles as though getting ready for a fight and the sudden appearance of Star Platinum floating protectively over Jolyne.

"Yes sir." Hol Horse gulped.

"You'll watch her carefully, make sure nothing happens to her?"

"Absolutely, I'll care for her as if she were my own."

"Better."

"Better than my own, sir."

"Hmm." Jotaro's face softened slightly in contemplation. Jolyne, seeing her chance, let go of her father and jumped onto the still laying Hol Horse, forcing all the air from his lungs.

"Please please please daddy!!" she yelled in his face, Star Platinum still protectively hovering over her.

"Alright Jolyne, you can stay with the nice man. I should be back in an hour." Jotaro picked up Jolyne and swung her around while hugging her before putting her back on the sand, her temper tantrum now over and replaced by giggles. He then turned to fix Hol Horse with a look he could only interpret as 'if anything happens to my daughter, what I did to DIO will be nothing compared to what will happen to you'.

Jotaro continued to the parking lot without looking back but with Star Platinum taking over the job of glaring at him.

Hol Horse decided then and there that if -god forbid- something did happen to Jolyne, he was better off killing himself before Jotaro got back.

Hol Horse stayed still until he could no longer feel the killing presence that he's only seen from Joestars.

"So what do you want to do first, little lady? Want a snow cone?"

"Snow cone! Snow cone!"

"Snow cone it is."

"What's your name mister?"

"Uhhh, Hol Horse."

"Horsey ride! Gimme horsey ride!"

"I should've known this was coming," Hol muttered before kneeling down for his temporary charge and speaking to her, "Alright Jolyne, up ya go."

Notes:

I still have ideas w/ this but idk if im ever gonna write them, i guess if ppl are interested I'll flesh out more of this and the other ideas I have (mostly hol horse showing up in morioh and maybe meeting giorno (imagine them showing each other their tasteful dio nudes lmao))
