 How could he have forgotten?

It was an easy date to remember as well, literally 04/04. Not that hard. Yet, Dream had seemingly forgotten his own anniversary. 1 year with George. And he fucking forgot.

Fucking hell.

-

Dream was currently scrolling through his youtube comments, reading funny reactions, new tips and tricks or even just reading hate comments (not that he let them get to him, he just found them funny).

He hears George before he sees him.

The aforementioned had pushed their door open so hard it had swung back and hit the wall. Dream flinches at the loud noise, “Don’t be dramatic, I’ve heard you scream during football matches, a little loud noise won’t hurt you.”

The other finds his spot on Dream’s lap, shuffling to get comfortable before looking Dream in his eyes, “It’s our anniversary” fuck “We’ve been together a whole year.”

Oh fuck! Fuck fuck fuck! Dream wants the ground to open up and swallow him whole, he’s thankful that George doesn't have the look of absolute terror that he’s sure is written across his face.

“It’s like, 8am George? Our plans aren’t until later.” He really hopes he can pull through and pull something out the bag, because if George finds out he not only forgot, but lied when questioned, he will be creating a Dream shaped groove in the couch cushions. “Unless you have something planned for us?”

“First of all, it’s 12pm, second of all, I just want to spend time with you, it’s our first anniversary together, 1 year since you sucked my dick for the first time.”

A chuckle fell from Dream’s lips, “Jesus George, way to make it romantic, also it was the first time I'd ever sucked anyones dick. You're just that special.”

“So what are we doing tonight? Can I guess?”

“You can try, but I’m not telling you, it’s a surprise.” for both of us he thought.

“Okay Georgie, if we’re going to make it on time later, I need to get some work done, and I'm pretty sure you have to edit a video, so come on.” Dream needs George out of this room now so he can call every restaurant to beg for a table.

“What time do you want me dressed?”

Shit! Fuck! Shit! “I’ll come and get you when it’s time, don't worry baby.” Smooth.

Dream watches him leave, mainly his ass because he’s only human. As soon as George is out of range, he then opens Google to try to find the perfect restaurant.

Dream finally found a restaurant! After recounting his woeful tale to every hostess within a 10 mile radius, he finds one who has a perfect table for them. He cannot thank her enough as he puts the phone down. Looking at the pictures of the restaurant again, he can’t help but be excited. It's classy but warm, close but private, and has something perfect for each of their tastes.

-

He knocks on George's Office door at 3:30pm, not wanting to walk in and announce their date plans in case he was on a stream.

“Come in.”

Dream walks in, still wary, and rightfully so, pulled up on George’s main screen is Quackity’s stream, along with discord. He also can't help but notice the half finished editing up on his other monitor, to which he shakes his head at.

“OOO, is that Dream? Dream! My little discord kitten, come here and talk to me.” he hears quackity through the headphones, but otherwise chooses to ignore him and give George a look, letting him know without words.

Nodding Georges shoos him away and begins spurting a half-assed excuse to leave, before joining Dream in the corridor.

“When do we have to be there?”

“We have to leave the house at 5pm, so hurry up, have a shower, get dressed, do whatever it is you do to make yourself pretty like always.”

He should have known none of it would go as planned. There had never been a worse time for fate to screw him over than today. It was just one event after the other.

  • First, Dream couldn’t find any decent dress pants to wear, it’s not like he could wear sweats.
  • Second, he couldn’t find the house keys, and after ringing Sapnap he found out he had borrowed his car. Which lead to the third issue:
  • Sapnap wasn’t going to be back for another hour which meant they were cutting it pretty close to the leaving time.
  • Additionally, he had left the front door open, allowing Patches to slip outside and explore, which wasted 15 minutes he was sure he didn’t have.

The fifth reason though, was arguably the worst. Upon bringing patches back into the house, he heard a small yelp from upstairs, which he thought nothing of until he heard his name being called upstairs, even so, he still didn't connect the dots until he walked into the bathroom and found George sitting on the floor (naked) with a steady stream of blood falling from his hairline.

“What the fuck?”

They ended up taking a cab to the hospital, where George ended up getting 8 stitches. They didn’t talk about their anniversary plans, just staying quiet unless it was to talk to the nurses or doctors. It was only when George had been discharged, that one of them brought it up.

“I’m sorry Dream, I ruined our anniversary.” sorry brown eyes met confused green eyes.

“George, it’s okay, it’s fine.”

“But it was our anniversary,” George says, soft and disappointed. “The first year is a big deal, it’s when people actually take it seriously, and don’t judge you for moving too fast or laugh at you when you talk about your future.”

“It’s just a day, baby, I'd have been perfectly happy staying in our bed with you wrapped in my arms.” Dream says gently. He’d forgiven George before he even had a chance to develop his guilt.

“We do that everyday, it was an important day. It should have been a special day.”

“George, we do not need fancy overpriced steak, in a noisy restaurant that probably had children running amok to make today special.” he places his hands on the other’s cheeks, holding him in place. “Now, you do not get to make fun of me for saying this, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Every day is special, because I get to do all of this with you.”

George doesn’t even try to suppress a smile, his face glows at the cheesy statement, and Dream knows that next year he wouldn’t forget, because he was going to start planning tomorrow.

“I love you Dream.”

“I Love you too.”

2.

Dream wakes up early, still not quite used to sleeping alone again, so his sleep was very choppy. However, it’s partly because of the sun. It’s bright and warm coming in through his balcony doors, Florida coming through like it always does. George liked to keep the curtains open as he slept, he liked to watch the moon in the sky, he must have left them like that out of habit.

When he gets downstairs, Sapnap is already awake, leaning against the counter, texting on his phone. He looks up when he hears Dream enter the room but still doesn’t speak, just hums in acknowledgement. “Want to go for a hike in like 20 minutes?” Dream asks, trying to fill his empty days with something more than lazing around the house moping for his lover.

Dream pulls his phone out of his sweats, and types a quick message to the other, Good morning, and happy birthday, love you . Dream was kind of sad that George had gone home for his birthday, but he had had to be in England to celebrate his sister's birthday which was a couple days after his, and flights worked out cheaper if he left before his birthday.

He doesn’t expect a text back for a while, it was around noon in England, and George had mentioned the night before that they were going for a birthday lunch to celebrate.

Dream knew that when he got into a relationship with George, that he would be competing - no competing wasn’t the right word, he knew that George still had priorities in England, and sometimes they were more important than him. He understands this. Yet right now, as he gets dressed for the hike- which in reality would probably just be them playing tag on the trail- he wishes that George was here.

--

They return an hour later, red in the face from chasing each other up and down the trail, still wanting to be out of the house more, and out in the sun, they decide a trip to the beach is in order.

When they get home from the beach, Dream finally remembers to check his phone, he sees a message from George, Thanks, love you. Dream knows he shouldn’t worry, George is busy with family, it’s his birthday, but still, he can't help it. George isn’t a dry texter, unless he is unwell, angry or sad. It’s his birthday, so he shouldn’t be feeling any of those.

He looks to the other end of the couch where Sapnap was sitting scrolling on his phone, “Sap?” upon hearing his name, the other looks up, “ Can you leave the room for like, half an hour? Please?”

“Why?”

“I’m going to call George?”

“But Gogy smells, you have me.”

“I mean I know that, but it is his birthday.” The other accepts this as a valid response and takes his leave, scooping up Patches who was about to crawl onto Dream’s lap. It was 4pm in Florida, so it should be around 8 or 9pm in England. George should be fine to call, but Dream wanted to make sure it was okay.

I miss you, can I call?

I love you.

He gets the reply after a minute, which makes him feel better, the brit texts back sure , which isn’t promising but is acceptable.

The call only rings for a couple seconds before he hears the other’s voice on the other end.

“Hi,” His voice is soft and raspy, like he hasn’t spoken all day. He doesn’t sound upset, despite the short texts.

“Happy Birthday baby.” he says even though he already texted it.

“You already texted that.” George says, voicing Dream’s exact thoughts.

“I wanted to say it again, why? Am I not allowed to?”

“What’s in it for me?” George asks, voice clearly joking. God he loves this man.

“Special hugs when you get home.”

“What makes them special?”

“First of all, they're hugs from me, but also there’s a high chance they may come with a blowjob.”

“I mean, you got me there, I love your blowjobs, I can't believe I was the first you ever gave.” George laughs,  laughs.

“I bet you say that to all the guys who give you amazing blowjobs.”

“I mean I wouldn't say yours are amazing, I might have had bet-”

“Do not! Don’t even think about finishing that thought, or you won’t be finishing for a very long time.”

“I’m joking, I just like to watch you squirm.” the other giggles, before continuing, “But what if I'm into that, who’s to say that I don't fantasise about you pulling me apart with your fingers and your- God! Your tongue- pushing me so close to the edge, and then just as i’m about to come, you stop, who’s to say I don’t think about you ruining me like that.”

Jesus Christ, “This is getting too explicit too quickly.” The words were a stain on his tongue as he struggled to keep the wandering thoughts of what George described out of his head, but God ! Dream would be lying if he said he didn’t want to reenact every single thing George said and more.

“You think that’s explicit?” George laughs, an edge in his tone. “I can show you explicit—”

“I’m in the living room, I'd rather not pop a boner and have Sapnap walk in,” Dream says, voice  almost a whine.

“You’re in the living room? What? Did you kick Sap out to talk to me?” The last is said in a joking tone, clearly not expecting it to be true.

“Yeah, I wanted to talk to you. Just you.”

“You didn’t have to do that,” George says, but Dream can hear that he’s happy he did.

“Of course I did, it’s your birthday, no one wants to talk to stinky Sapnap, 27 years old Georgie, you're old now.” a laugh sounds from down the line, and then the other goes silent.

“Are you doing okay?” The change in topic is far from subtle but neither of them bring it up. He waits for an answer, but the other stays  quiet. “You haven’t said much today, I don’t like the thought of you spending today alone, especially since it’s your birthday.”

“I’m okay, I need to be alone sometimes, it feels good to be alone.”

“But?” he knows there’s more, he just needs the other to tell him so he can make him feel better.

“I kind of wish I was there,” he admits nervously, voice dropping as he continues “Just for today, you know?”

“I know, I should have come with you, I shouldn’t have left you alone on your birthday.”

“No, you shouldn’t have,” George says, “I’m a big boy, I just miss you today and want to whine.”

“I will accept the whining for today only.”

“You chose me despite the whining, you knew what you were getting into.” the other says in mock offense.

“I chose you? What do you mean? you’ve always been the one. It’s only ever been you, all along.” His voice lowers as the sentence comes to an end, sincerity seeping through the words and down the speakers, wrapping itself around George in a hug he so wished had a corporeal body attached.

“Clay—” George says, then trails off. He doesn’t use Dream’s real name that often, all too used to calling him by his minecraft gamer tag.

“Next year we’ll go big, okay?”

“What?”

“Next year. I’m going to plan you the cutest fucking birthday you’ve ever seen in your life.”

“It’s just a day.” George laughs, but Dream can hear the soft hiccups indicating the other was crying.

“It’s your day! That means something, let’s do something big, okay? I want to do something big for you.”

“Baby, it’s okay,” the other says softly “I just miss you, I don’t need grand gestures.”

“You don’t need them, but you deserve them.”

“What would this birthday ‘grand gesture’ entail?”

“It’s a surprise,” Dream says, because he had no idea he was so secure in his plans for his birthday this year he didn’t even think- “Holy shit! I just remembered I made dinner reservations months ago at that new restaurant for your birthday, we’re meant to be there in” Dream looks at the time on his phone “oh we were meant to be there 40 minutes ago.”

The other laughs down the phone, a thump is heard on the other side, but the steady sound of laughing is still there so Dream doesn't worry.

“I’m sorry, I haven’t laughed that hard in a while, fucking hell Dream you planned a date for us and forgot? When did you even make reservations?”

Dream thinks for a second, “I think I made them just after you mentioned hearing about the restaurant” he says sheepishly, already knowing the reaction he was going to receive.

“Dream! I mentioned them before my last birthday!”

“They were booked for that birthday, so I figured this one was as good as any.” he defends.

“Oh my fucking god, I love you so much, I cant believe you.”

3.

Dream was actually proud of himself this time.

Recently George had been really stressed out, his need to stream after so long was stressing him out. So Dream decided an impromptu date was in order. He had planned out the entire night, they would start off by having an early dinner at a restaurant they had been planning to go to for a while, then he planned to take them around their favourite spots in Orlando, and then finishing the evening with a picnic under the stars.

To top it off, he had managed to convince Sapnap (read: paid $500) to cover their room and bed in petals, candles and all that sappy shit that you see in romance films. He knows George will laugh and call him a simp, but he knows deep down he’ll appreciate it.

It was 4:45pm when his mother called, “I know you have plans and tonight is important to you, and you know I wouldn’t be calling if it wasn’t completely important.” there was an edge of urgency in his mother’s tone, and he automatically stopped what he was doing.

His mother sounds stressed and tired, as if she hasn’t slept in weeks, “What is it?”

“Your sister, she’s not answering my calls. I called the neighbors and had them knock on the door, but she didn’t answer. I knew I shouldn’t have taken this trip, I shouldn't have left her alone.” His mother had gone on a trip to North Carolina to see their grandparents, his 16 year old sister, however, had not wanted to go, so she stayed home under strict instructions to call every morning and night, and for Dream to check in as well.

“No mom, don't blame yourself, she's probably just asleep, or invested in a book, you know how hard it is to talk to her once she's found a good book.”

“I know, I know, there's probably a good reason I’m sorry, I'm just worried, I shouldn't have left her.'' his mothers voice was low, laced with worry and guilt. Dream couldn't stand hearing her blame herself.

“I’ll grab George and head right over, okay? I’ll call when we get in, it's most probably nothing.”

“Thank you, Clay. And thank George, too, I'm sorry, I know you told me you had a date.” Shit Dream forgot about that, so concerned for his sister. He knew George would understand.

He hangs up the phone, running his hands down his face before shouting George down the stairs.

“What? I'm nearly ready. I have time, I thought we were leaving at 6?” George comes down the stairs, and holy fuck he looks good. So fucking good. Dream really hates himself for what's about to happen.

“My mom called, she hasn't heard from my sister.”

“Okay, Let’s go.” Dream decides then and there that this is the person he was going to marry. George was perfect for him, understood him in and out, was even willing to miss their date to do something that was important to Dream. He was going to marry him.

It was 6:06pm when he arrived at his parents house, he may have broken the law by going 20 over the speed limit, but no one had to know. He unlocked the door with his old house key, calling out his sister's name. Patches, who was staying at his mother’s to keep his sister company,  comes to greet him at the door, thinking she was going to be taken home. Not yet.

George walks further into the house, as Dream stays by the door to check the mail and make sure Patches didn’t escape.

“Clay, up here in the bathroom.”

When he enters the bathroom, he's greeted with the sight of his sister hunched over the toilet holding the porcelain as if her life depended on it, and George kneeling beside her rubbing her back in a soothing manner. “She’s okay, she's probably just got the flu.”

“Thank you, okay I’m going to call my mom, let her know.” his mother picks up the phone almost as soon as he pressed the contact name.

“Is she okay?” Her tone is worried and he can only imagine how she’s feeling not knowing what's happening while she’s away, and he is quick to settle her worries.

“She is fine, she probably has the flu, we found her in the bathroom being sick, she’s okay, we’re going to take her back to my house and we’re going to take care of her. Don’t worry.” he can practically hear the sigh of relief his mother lets off without the phone.

“I’m going to head back as soon as I can, I’ll say goodbye to your grandparents and drive back, I’ll be there by morning”

“Mom, there’s nothing you can do for her that I can’t, I’ll buy her some medicine, I’ll stuff her full of soup and tuck her into bed myself, there’s no need for you to tire yourself out with an 8 hour drive through the night, George and I can look after her, I promise.”

His mother sighs on the other end, he wants to ease all her worry, “Sorry Clay, I don't mean to say you can't care for her, it's just that I worry, she's still a child, and I'm sorry. I know you can look after her, I'm just worrying.” he feels sorry for his mom, but he knows there’s no need for her to return, not when he can do it.

“I know mom, it's okay, it's understandable, it just shows you love her, I'll take care of her for you.”

“Don't get sick. You or George. I want to treat you to dinner when I get back to say sorry for ruining your evening.”

“It's okay mom, we understand.”

He hears his mother talking to his dad on the end of the phone, he caught a few words and figured she was telling him what was happening, then all of a sudden she stopped talking to his father mid sentence and started talking down the receiver again, “Oh my god Clay, I'm so sorry, you had a date, I'm so sorry. You don't want to care for a teenager when you were going on a date.”

Oh shit, the date, with all that was happening he forgot his evening plans, the date that he was taking George on to de-stress and make him forget about his responsibilities, damn.

“Mom. No matter if you set off now, tomorrow or half an hour ago when you called, George and I wouldn't have made the date. It's okay, we'll do it another time.” George looks up hearing his name, and gives a small smile, Dream can understand the look in his eyes, it’s okay, I understand .

“I'm still sorry Clay.”

“It's okay, George understands.” George nods along to the conversations, whilst also soothingly rubbing his hand on his sister’s back.

“You've got a good one there Clay, keep him.” He looks at the man in front of him. The man in front of him who had given up his date with hesitation to help his sister. He had a handful of her hair in his hand to keep it out of her face as she was sick, whilst also holding a cup of water in the other for her to wash the taste away. He knows his mother is right, losing George would be the biggest mistake of his life.

“I plan to mom." and he meant those words. He’d never forgive himself if he somehow found a way to push the other away.

"If you ever hurt him I'll take his side." what?

“MOM! That's just rude. I thought you didn't have favourites.” his tone was teasing  as he played up the offense, he obviously wasn't offended, he loved that his family loved George. It made him realise how stupid he was for worrying about coming out to his parents after getting with George.

“Clay, how dare you insinuate I have favourite children, I only have favourite partners of my children.”

“Oh really? Do tell me whose partner you prefer?'' George gives him a funny look, clearly wanting to understand the conversation, but Dream just sticks his tongue out playfully, and continues to talk to his mother.

“That information is between me and God.”

Dream chuckles, “You don't believe in God.”

“Oh hush. It's a phrase. Carry on, and I'll have a least favourite child, It’s none of your business that George is my favourite,” His mother laughs on the other end, and he feels so much better hearing her laugh and be happy, it was a good change from the worry earlier.

“AH HAH! So, George is your favourite.” George was still looking at him funny, but he had this dopey smile on his face as he watched Dream talk to his mother, and he just wanted to kiss the look off his face.

“Out of you and him, yes.” okay ouch. There’s loving George, and then there’s loving George too much.

“Ouch mom. I'm wounded, you've wounded me. I'm sorry I'm not George. I'm going to go cry now.” Dream let out a few fake cries, trying to play up the wounded son. George gave him one look and rolled his eyes, used to his dramatic moments.

“Don't be dramatic Clay, everyone prefers George over you.”  Dream really wasn’t that bothered by it, he knew his mother was joking (to an extent) and he couldn’t put into words how much it meant to him to have his mother, and his family approve of George, even his grandparents, who could be a little old fashioned, welcomed him into the family with open arms. His grandmother had even mentioned adding him into her will. Not to mention, she even gave him her famous cherry pie recipe that she refused to give to others.

“Wow George, stealing my heart and my family." He says it more to himself than his mother, George looks and blows him a kiss and winking at him, knowing exactly what conversation he was having right now.

"Marry him Clay!” wow. Okay. He knew he had wanted to before, but he had to do it now. His mother would never stop telling him to, and it was more for future Dream’s sanity that he agreed, going along with his mother.

“I will don't worry. It's in the works. I'm going to go now, I'll let you know when I get home and call you when she's asleep. I love you.”

“I love you too, tell her I love her please.”

“I will, goodbye mom.”

“Bye baby, and tell George I said goodbye.”

“I will, goodbye.“ he spent a couple more minutes trying to say goodbye to his mother who apparently didn’t know when to end a phone call, it was one of the things he loved about her. Whenever they would call, he had to make sure he had no plans for the next couple hours, because any attempt to end the call would only end in a new topic, which would draw him in, and then they would go around in circles until he physically had to tell his mom it was getting late and they had been talking for hours.

Once he’s ended the call, he starts to help George with his sister, who had stopped throwing up, and was just dry heaving into the bowl.

They make it to the car, a couple days of clothes hastily packed into a bag, and patches in her cat carrier. He went to open the passenger side door for George, but the other just shakes his head and climbs into the back with his sister cuddling into his side.

They make it home, and George continues to hold his sister until she makes it to the couch, where she collapses into the soft cushions, and a recently released Patches curls into her chest. “You might want to sit up, you need to eat or your body will keep dry heaving, and that's not good for you, come on sit up and Clay will go make you something.”

Clay nods, and makes a move to stand up, before leaving the room, he turns to George, “will you be fine?”

The other just nods, and gestures for him to leave, waving his hands in a shoo-ing motion. Dream enters the kitchen and begins to make the easiest soup he knows, not wanting to add too much flavour, lest it cause her to be sick again. As he waits for it to cook, he pulls out his phone to cancel the remaining plans for the evening, more specifically Sapnap, who was due to come home with rose petals and candles to decorate their room. He also made a mental note to get this money back off Sap.

Once the soup was cooked, he made a small bowl for his sister, and two larger bowls for him and George. He also buttered some bread before gently loading it onto a tray with some water bottles and heading into the living room.

They ate their food with a random stream in the background, once they had all finished they all settled into the couch cushions, not bothering to move. His sister had fallen asleep buried in the couch cushions, whilst Dream and Goegre migrated to the chair across the room where they sat cuddled together, half paying attention to the stream.

“I’m sorry we missed our date.”

“It’s okay, your sister is sick, I don't mind helping take care of her, I want your family to like me, and if a few missed dates are what it takes, then we’ll miss a few dates.” fuck I love you . Dream couldn’t help but stare at the other in awe. His brain working in overdrive to plan the perfect engagement, he knew he was getting ahead of himself, but he couldn’t last long before the words slipped past his lips.

Dream rolled his eyes and bumped against the other’s shoulder, “You know it’s not necessary my family love you, my mom adores you, I think you're her favourite out of all her children.”

George returned the gesture and rolled his eyes at Dream’s words, “I’m not her child though.”

“You are now, welcome to the family, you're stuck with us now, good luck.” Dream punctuated the end of the sentence with a peck to George’s nose, and watched with a fond gaze as the other scrunched his nose. Cute.

“I love you.”

I love you too baby.”

4.

Dream should probably give up on planning dates at this point, he was never going to make it to the reservations, restaurants have probably got his name on a blacklist from how many reservations he’s made and ended up missing or cancelling.

Valentines day. The day of love. The day he was going to propose.

Life had other plans however, George woke him up tossing and turning, he had sweat rolling down his forehead, and he looked deathly pale. He had been fine when they went to bed, but now he looked far from okay.

Dream just watches the other sleep, not bothering to try to fall asleep himself, knowing the other would either wake him from tossing and turning, or when he most likely makes a mad dash for the bathroom to throw up.

George groans as he wakes up, clutching his stomach. “Dreamie, don’ feel s’good” his words were slurred and muffled as he leaned further into the pillow to try and escape the illness.

“I know baby, you don’t look so good, I think you caught the flu from my sister” the other turns to look at him, and his heart drops. He looks terrible, in the least offensive way. There are dark circles under his eyes that are made more prominent with the sickly pale skin, his usually pink lips are as pale as his skin.

Dream wipes away the hair that had stuck to the other’s forehead with the other’s sweat, and holds him as he curls up in a ball. He ends up curled half on his side of the bed, and half on Dream’s lap, which doesn’t look comfortable at all, but which he insists is the least nauseating position.

The other falls asleep in the uncomfortable looking position, letting himself be soothed with Dream’s hand which runs gently through his hair. Then as suddenly as he fell asleep, he’s awake and running to the bathroom. Groaning as he throws up in the toilet. Dream who had followed behind, leant on the door frame, not wanting to crowd him, knowing how he was when he was ill.

George hated being, as he put it, ‘mauled’ when he was even the slightest bit sick, he hated it unless he was the one to initiate it. His resistance to unwarranted touching often caused arguments between the two. Dream who was just trying to help his boyfriend always ended up apologising, even if the other started the argument (George always apologised when he was better).

The shower curtain flew open, and a head-- no two heads popped out. “Woah, Georgie are you sick?” Dream averted his eyes away from the shower curtain, to help Spanap’s ‘company’ feel more at ease with two additional men being in the bathroom.

“Wow Sapnap, what gave it away? Was it me throwing up last night’s dinner, Or is it the way it looks like I already went into the light?” Naturally, George still had his attitude, another reason they argued when George was ill, he got unnecessarily snappy when Dream was trying to help.

“Nice to see you’re still George, are you going to be long? I’m busy.”

“Careful Sap, piss him off and he might breathe on you and make you sick as well.” Dream sends the other a wink, laughing at the way George was glaring at his boyfriend from the bathroom floor. Dream almost let out a comment about how it was a shame he was sick because he looked good from this angle, but then he remembered Sapnap’s shower buddy.

George leant back over the bowl to throw up again,

“Shouldn’t one of you rub his back to sooth him?” The head besides next to Sapnap’s spoke up, and all eyes shifted to her, and she realised she was technically naked in the room with two strangers, “Oh, hi, I’m Bella, I’m sorry if I overstepped a boundary, but shouldn’t you rub your friends back” she was looking at Dream, obviously, she wasn’t expecting Sapnap to get out of the shower to rub George’s back.

Sapnap laughed beside her at the word she used, “Don't worry, George is a little bitch when he’s sick. He doesn’t let anyone touch him unless he makes the first move, He doesn’t even let Dream touch him, and they’ve been together nearly 2 years now.”

“Fuck off Sapnap, youre no better, remember when you cried for Dream to cuddle you when you were sick, didn’t you end up in our bed?”

Dream could tell this was going to unravel into an argument if left unchecked, so he flicked George in the forehead, forcing his attention onto him. “Ow Dreamie, I have a headache.” the brunette was sitting on the ground, pouting up at him. Any other time he would have caved, but George was being a little shit, and needed to be kept in line.

“Well that argument you were going to cause was going to make it worse, so stop pouting.” Dream also noticed that Sapnap was going to make a comment, probably to taunt the Brit, but before he could reprimand him, the other yelped in pain.

“Don’t even bother to tease him, he’s unwell, and you should know better.” Dream was starting to like Bella more and more, she knew how to keep Sapnap in line, he hoped she stayed for a while.

George struggled to stand up, settling for flushing the toilet and sitting on the lid. “I feel like I’m dying.”

“George, brush your teeth so we can go back to bed, or at least so we can leave these two alone to finish their shower.” George’s mouth formed an ‘O’ as he realised there were still two naked people in the room.

“Carry me?” rolling his eyes, he walked over to George picking him up, letting him wrap his legs around his waist and arms around his neck, before grabbing their toothbrushes and toothpaste (he figured they’d brush their teeth in the kitchen).

Sapnap pulled the curtain shut, finally ready to resume his shower. He heard a mutter from behind the shower that sounded like ‘simp’ however it was shortly followed by a noise of pain.

-

The morning passed, and George was still looking fairly sick, Sapnap and Bella had joined them in the living room until their evening plans for valentines day, although Sapnap had made a big show to sit as far away from George as he could. George had just rolled his eyes and cuddled into Dream’s side.

It was around 1 in the afternoon when George fell asleep again, Sapnap had gone to his room, and Dream was bored, having lost all body function on his left side where George was attached to him. He could see his phone on the coffee table and mourned for it, he was so close yet so far.

He saw movement in the corner of his eyes, and looked to see Sapnap walking by the front room, “Sap!”

Sapnap looks at him, “What’s up?”

“Please pass me my phone? I'm so bored, and I need to cancel our plans.” he gestures towards his phone that lay just out of reach on the table.

Sapnap nods, but doesn’t move, keeping his eyes on George. Dream is about to shout at him for being rude about George being ill, but the other speaks before he can.“You dont think it will pass? He’s really sick?” his voice is low, giving away the other’s concern. He might act like an idiot and fight all the time with George, but in the end they were as much brothers as Dream and Sapnap.

Dream just shakes his head and murmurs a small reply, keeping his eyes on the sleeping boy in his arms, “No, I think it’s the flu, my sister probably gave it to him.”

“Oh, do you want me to stay and help? I’m sure Bella will understand.”

Dream shakes his head, there’s no reason for both of their evenings to be ruined- well not ruined, but there was no reason for them all to stay at home for George.  “No, no, don’t do that. We’ll be okay, I’ll force some food and medicine down him later,

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah, absolutely. Take Bella out, give her a good night. I like her.”

“Really?” the younger's face lit up, and Dream realised this is how he must look whenever his family made a comment about liking George.

Dream smiles, “Yeah, also don’t forget to tell my mom about her, I’m sure she’ll want to meet her, you know what will happen if you don’t tell her.”

“Okay I will, well I’m going to go.” the other makes a move to leave the room, but stopped when Dream called his name again

“Sapnap?”

“Yeah?”

“My phone.” Dream gestures to his phone which was still lying on the table, the other lost in his concern had forgotten to pass it to him.

“Oh yeah,” he crosses the room and grabs the phone, passing it to Dream, “here.”

Sapnap is almost out of the room when Dream shouts at him again,“Thanks, love you brother.”

“Love you too.”

-

The afternoon passes and the day leakes into evening, Sapnap had already left, and George was still asleep cuddled into Dream’s side. He had a bit more colour in his cheeks, and he had less sweat flowing down his face than before.

He needed to eat and drink water if he wanted to get better, but first he needed to wake up.

“George? Georgie, you need to wake up.” the other shook his head before trying to bury himself further into Dream’s side to escape reality, and avoid being awake.

“No, Dr’mie don’ make me wake up, wan’ sleep, tired.'' This was going to be hard, it was always hard when George refused to wake up, his snappy attitude got the best of him sometimes leading to arguments.

“Baby, you’ve been asleep all day, you're sweaty and gross, and you need to eat and drink, I promise you’ll feel better once you’ve showered.” his voice was low, trying to keep it even. He needed to shower, he was going to start smelling soon if he stayed lying in his own sweat, but he couldn’t push too hard, or it would end up in screaming and tears.

The other opened one of his eyes and looked at Dream, pout still prominent on his face, he was trying to pretty privilege his way out of showering so he could sleep more, and Dream wasn’t going to let him, “Nope, no getting out of this, you stink and if you want to stay cuddling me, you're showering and changing clothes.”

“Fine, will you join me”

“In the shower?” Dream smirked, he didn’t want to send his mind straight to the gutter, but they had never just ‘showered’ any attempt had ended with George writhing on the bed with Dream above him taking absolute pleasure in the ways he could take George apart.

“Yeah, you know in case I get dizzy or can't walk.” There's a sly smile on George’s face, okay so that’s how this evening is going. He hopes he has enough medicine, because there’s no way he’s not getting sick after this.

“Oh really, you just want me to help?” He knows he shouldn’t let George feed into the insinuation, he himself shouldnt be feeding into it either. But, Dream is a man, and George is very pretty and persuasive.

“Yes please.” George knew he had already got his way, Dream was going to join him, he was also going to regret it in a couple days when he woke up sick. That was a problem for future Dream.

“Okay, and then we eat?”

“Okay.” George stood up, walking to the door, turning to face his boyfriend and saying, “I love you.”

“I love you too baby, even if you are a bit smelly.”

5.

It was his last attempt at a date before their anniversary, and he would not be surprised if this one also went wrong. He was just waiting to see what the universe threw at him this time.

George was sitting in the passenger side of the car, they were nearly ready for their date, they just had to go to Publix to grab a few things for the date. George didn’t know this, he just thought they were grabbing things and leaving them in the car whilst they were in some restaurant.

No. They were going to finally have the date that Dream had planned before his sister was ill. He obviously had to rework the evening to take into consideration the lack of Sapnap’s help, so he had sent George out to the car before him, under the guise of him leaving his phone upstairs.

He hadn’t, he just needed an excuse to be alone so he could cover their room in the petals he had hid under the bed. He skipped out on the candles, not wanting to come home to a pile of ash he called home.

They were going to start by getting things from Publix, then they were going to head to a cafe George had pointed out a while ago, then they were going to a spot, just off a hiking trail. There was  a beautiful waterfall where he was going to propose, so they could spend their second anniversary engaged. Then they were going to go home and spend the evening celebrating their engagement.

Some might say that just under two years together wasn't enough time to know you wanted to spend the rest of your life together, but Dream just knew.

“Dream, can I get this? please? “ The older one was holding a light pink elephant stuffed toy. He was pouting up at Dream holding it close to his chest as if Dream was going to take it from him.

“Why?”

“To celebrate our date.”

“Celebrate what about our date?” Dream watched the other as he gently stroked the elephant in his arms, he was treating it with such care almost as if it were a baby or something that needed to be treated with care. He’d already decided to buy it for George, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t curious.

George shrugged, still stroking the stuffed toy, “That we are actually succeeding, we made it out the house onto the path of dating success.” He looked up from the toy and into Dream's eyes, “We should celebrate that, by you buying me this blue elephant.” Blue?

“That’s pink.”

The older man pulled the elephant away from his chest and looked at it closely, squinting his eyes as if that would suddenly make him able to see the true colour. “I still want it.”

“Okay, put it in the cart.” George complied, placing the elephant in the cart, smiling up at Dream.

Once the elephant was secure in the cart, Dream took his chance to look more closely at the object of George’s affection, it was then he noticed the elephant was missing an eye. “George, this one is missing an eye, why don’t you go back and get a different one?”

“I know, I still want it, if I don't get it, then who will?”

-

Their date was actually going well.

They had succeeded in making it through Publix, and survived the cafe trip. They were now waiting in the car, just near the hiking trail getting ready to walk to the waterfall- well George didn't know this part.

They had stepped out of their car when the phone rang. He really hopes that the person who is calling has a good reason, or he was going to kill them.

Answering the phone, he was greeted with a loud beeping and shouting in the background of the call,  “Dream?” Bella? How did she get his number? He pulled the phone from his ear to check the caller ID: Sapnap.

“Bella?”

“Oh my god! It all happened so fast.” she was rambling, and not giving a clear answer. Muttering about how it happened too fast, it was an accident, and other nonsensical ramblings.

“What's happening?”

“I’m sorry, I know you're on your date, but it's Sapnap.”

“What’s sapnap?” George looked over at him with a curious look on his face. Mouthing something to him, but his mind was too busy racing through the probabilities of the meaning behind the call and Bella’s unintelligible mutterings.

“There was an accident, we’re at the hospital now.”

The blood in his bloodstream was replaced by panic for his brother, his mind working in overdrive, not quite letting it kick in that Sapnap could be hurt, or worse. “Accident? What do you mean? What accident?”

“We were in the car, the light was green but the truck came out of nowhere. I didn’t have your number. I had to ask the nurse to get his phone from his pocket.” The hysteria and panic was sleeping through the phone, and lodging itself in Dream’s brain.

He’d already climbed back into the car, putting the keys in the engine, but not driving yet because he still had no clue where they were. “Truck? What hospital are you guys at? How is Sapnap?”

“The truck hit his side, he took most of the impact.” Her voice was panicked and she sounded not far from succumbing into hysteria. She answered his questions, telling him which hospital they were at.

“We will be there soon.”

George looked at him from where he was leaning against the front of the car, a questioning look on his face. He opened his mouth to probably object to his dates derailing, but must have seen the look on Dream’s face, silently closing his mouth and getting into the car.

“What happened?”

“There was an accident, Sapnap is in the hospital.” His voice was monotone as he tried to keep himself steady, not wanting to dissolve into tears.

“How is he? Is he okay?” George’s voice was heavy with worry, and Dream felt himself get closer to cracking.

“Bella said his side took most of the impact, she didn't say how he was, she didn't even say if he was alive.” his voice cracked as the situation finally weighed down on him. He could feel the familiar sting of tears from where they threatened to fall from the corner of his eyes.

He couldn’t cry, because if he started then he wouldn't stop, and George couldn’t drive them to the hospital.

When Dream was wondering what the universe would throw at him, he didn’t mean a fucking truck in the side of sapnap’s car. He couldn't help but feel guilty, almost as if he had purposely tested fate by questioning it. He felt as though he had caused the accident. Which wasn’t true considering he wasn't the guy in the truck who ran a red light with no regard for human life.

Yet he still couldn't help the guilt coursing through his veins.

-

They made it to the hospital in under 15 minutes, he had barely stopped the car before they were both clambering out of it heading to the front desk. George’s worry had increased tenfold as they had gotten closer to the hospital. The unknowing of how their friend was doing was making it.

When they arrived at the front desk, George took over talking, not that Dream would have been able to. The worry had made its way its way down his throat and settled in his heart as his brain provided him with the worst outcomes

The receptionist directed them to a waiting room where he was greeted by Bella who was the living embodiment of stress. She was pacing the floors, practically burning holes in the floor, even though they had only been together for three months (two spent in secret hidden from everyone, including Dream and George) he knew she cared for him.

When she noticed them, she stopped pacing, and just looked at them. There were tears running down her face, and her hair looked like it hadn’t been brushed. There were splatters of blood on her t-shirt, either from herself or Sapnap. Dream didn’t want to think about it.

Dream opened his arms for her to fall into, they were in similar headspaces, both worried about their friend. Not to say George wasn’t worried, but someone had to be stable or at least calm, and it wasn't going to be Dream or Bella.

“They took him to surgery, they didn’t let me see him, I’m not family” her tears were seeping through Dream’s hoodie, “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry” he rubbed her back soothingly, trying to ease her pain.

A doctor approached them, “Are you guys here for-” they looked down at the charts in her hands, “- Sapnap?” her eyes were flickering between them.

“Yes, is he okay?” they all turned to look at her.

“He is doing fine, he had to have surgery on his knee, but he should make a healthy recovery. He is awake but only one person can go see him.”

George placed a hand on Bella’s shoulder, “Bella, you go, I’ll stay with Dream, we’ll be fine.”

“Thank you.”

Dream felt George’s arms wrap around him, “He’s okay, that’s good. You heard the nurse, healthy recovery.” he felt the other’s hand moving up and down his spine. Sometimes he forgot that he was the younger of the two, George acted very childlike most of the time, it was quite new for him to actually act his age.

He buried his face into George's neck, his words were slightly muffled but he knew George could understand him, “I know, that was- I don’t know-  I've never felt that amount of fear before. The unknown was terrifying, I was so scared.”

“I know.”

“Our date was ruined.”

“I know, it’s not your fault.” George's arm was still rubbing soothing circles on his back, somewhere along the line his hand had slipped under his hoodie meaning George’s cool fingers were running across Dream’s warm skin.

“I’m sorry.”

“It’s okay, we’ll get it right next time.”

“Our next one is our anniversary.”

“It’s only fitting that our anniversary is the one we get right.” George’s optimism was contagious, and Dream couldn’t help but think they were going to finally get it right.

+1.

They were going to do it this time, they had the reservations, there were no head cuts, no oceans between them, no missing sisters,  no illnesses, and certainly no car accidents.

This was it. Their second anniversary.

They were going to get this date. They had been trying for a year to get this date right, and they were going to do it.

It was currently 5:13pm and they had to leave for the restaurant at 5:30pm, and it was understandable that Dream was wary, they’d made it this close a few times, there was still time for disaster to strike.

It did strike. In the form of Sapnap.

Dream was just about to head out the door, George was still upstairs but would be down soon, when Sapnap shouted to him, “Hey what was the name of that restaurant you were going to?”

“Umm, I think it was called la papillon, why?”

“I thought so, it’s been shut down.”

Dream sent a glare to the other who was sitting on the couch, “Sapnap, don’t make jokes like that. We’re about to leave”

Sapnap shrugged and looked him in the eyes, “I’m not joking man, Bella just sent me an article, apparently people found bugs in their food.” He flipped the phone around for Dream to see the news article.

Dream put his head in his hands, “I genuinely think the universe hates us, we’ve not been able to plan and execute a date in an entire year.”

“That sucks, why have you been trying so hard?”

Dream looked around, making sure George wasn’t going to pop up out of nowhere, “Because I've been trying to propose, since the day that my sister got sick.”

“Oh. oh! ” Sapnap sat up in his chair, careful not to bump his broken leg, leaning forward and keeping his voice low.

“Yeah ‘ oh ’ , and every one of them has gone wrong.” Dream shook his head which was still in his hands.

Sapnap moved back, sitting himself up further, trying to contain himself, “No. This is it. I’m going to help you. Take him to the park, I'll call Bella and she’ll help me set it up for you.”

“It’s fine Sapnap.”

Sapnap shook his head, “No you’re going to do it. There’s no major injuries, no oceans. We’re going to do it!” Dream could tell that Sapnap really believed they could do this.

“You really think we can do it?”

“Of course, now go tell George about the change of plans.”

Dream stood up, sending a thankful look to Sapnap before heading to the stairs. George stood at the top of the stairs looking ridiculously attractive. He was wearing a light blue sweater with a white shirt with the collars peaking out, he paired it with a pair of black jeans. He looked so good, and Dream felt bad telling him.

George could tell what words were going to fall from his lips the minute he saw him, “What is it this time?” He didn't look disappointed, more bemused. It was kind of sad that George knew that something had gone wrong, but it couldn’t be helped. Things happen.

Dream shrugged, giving the other’s outfit another once over, he really looked good, “Restaurant got shut down.”

George returned the gesture, shrugging his shoulders, “We really should have played date bingo, put what we think will happen in a box, winner gets a blowjob.” George made a move to go back to his room, but Dream was quick to stop him, calling after him.

“Hey! We’re still going out, so get your cute butt down the stairs.” he smiled at the other, who smiled back at the idea of still trying to salvage his anniversary.

The other nodded his head, starting to descend the stairs, he paused for a moment before a sly smile formed on his face, “Yes sir.” he could see George watching him, gaging his reaction to the submissive words.

Smirking up at the other, “Say that again and I'll send you back upstairs to get on your knees.” George’s smile grew wider, clearly receiving the reaction he wanted.

“Hey! I'm still here! Leave your foreplay for later, when i’m not here” George chuckled at Sapnap, who clearly was not interested in talking about their bedroom activities.

“Okay Sapnap, we’re leaving, we’ll be back around 9, I have to find something to do on our date.” to George that was just a friendly notice, but to Sapnap it was a time limit. He had two and half hours to pull through.

-

They wandered around for a while, talking about their lives, future streams and anything and everything. It was around 15 minutes until they were due home, and to say Dream was nervous was an understatement. 15 minutes until he sees what Sapnap pulls out the bag.

“Are you okay?” George’s hand tightened around his, drawing him from his head. He turned to George, the glow of the setting sun lit his features up, he looked even prettier in the dim oranges of the day.

“Yeah.”

“You look worried, nervous.”

He smiled at the other, of course George would notice his nervous behaviour. He didn't necessarily know that it was because Dream was half an hour away from getting down on one knee, he had no clue. He was kind of jealous of George, who was able to stand there in blissful ignorance, unaffected by the swarm of nerves that had found its way into Dream’s stomach, “Just feel bad, it’s our second anniversary, and it went wrong. Like all the rest.”

Another squeeze to the hand, “It’s okay, we’re together, no injuries or sickness, it’s better than most we’ve had,” he could appreciate George’s optimism, but right now he was on the verge of spilling out every one of his feelings before they even had the chance to see what Sapnap had done for them.

“I know, but it’s weird right? Every date we’ve attempted has never gone to plan.”

“It wouldn’t be us if things didn’t go wrong.”

“I know, come on, let’s go home.” pulling the other by their attached hands, he guided them through the park to the gravel path that led to the car park.

Allowing himself to be pulled along until they were at the car, George just agreed, seemingly happy to be returning home, “Okay, let’s go. Maybe I’ll get lucky and you’ll give me one of your amazing blowjobs.”

“Maybe, we’ll see how the night treats you.” a sly smirk was sent the other’s way.

Dream pulls into the drive, sending one last prayer that Sapnap and Bella were able to perform a miracle. He gives a final glance to George, who is sitting peacefully unaware of what's hiding behind silver door handles and wooden panels.

There is no noticeable planning when they enter, no trace of last minute date plans, it’s only when he went into the kitchen he found a note on the counter

The backyard is set, the food is in the oven, it should only need a couple more minutes to warm up,  there’s also dessert and wine in the fridge. I’m staying the night at Bella’s so you two can be as loud as you want when you celebrate. Also, I found the ring (beautiful by the way) where you told me, I put it in the top of the cupboard next to the wine glasses so you can grab it without looking too sus, good luck brother.

Ps. there is a camera hidden in the corner of the garden, it should get it all on tape so you can remember it and (when y’all decide to go public) post pictures.

Love you brother, good luck.

Okay, it was actually happening.

George entered the room, his shoes missing from his feet, and his hands fiddling with the hem of his sweater ready to take it off. “Don't get undressed yet, the evening isn’t finished, we still have dinner plans.”

The other’s face showed his confusion, their evening seemingly ending with their shut down restaurant.

“Come on, I had Sapnap set something up while we were gone, I wasn't going to let another date be ruined.” He led them both to the sliding doors that led to the backyard. Sapnap, who was forever dramatic, had made sure the curtains to the sliding door were closed to make the reveal all the more suspenseful.

When he opened the doors, his breath was stolen from him, it was beautiful. There was a round table set up in the centre of the deck, a white table cloth draped over it. Unlit candles stood in the middle of the table, ready to be lit.

Fairy lights had been strung through the foliage that encased the yard, Dream also noticed the red light of the camera, it wasn’t noticeable, but he could still find it because he knew it existed.

“Holy Shit, Sapnap really outdid himself.” Dream couldn’t have said it better than George. Sapnap had really gone above and beyond to help create a nice environment for their anniversary date.

“Come on, let's sit down, I'll go get the food. Just sit here.”

In the haven of the kitchen Dream began to psych himself up, this was it. The day he had been waiting for. He was going to propose, George was going to say yes (hopefully) and they were going to live happily ever fucking after.

They ate the food in silence, appreciating the presence of the other, no words needing to be exchanged. It was time for desert, and Dream grabbed the box from the glass cupboard, securing it in his pocket.

He watched as George dug into the cheesecake, not finding it in himself to be able to eat any of his. Just stuck watching the other, admiring his beauty.

“Marry me?” His mouth moved before his brain even had a chance to catch up and stop it, George’s brain had also stopped, a fork was hanging limply in the air as he stared at Dream. “Fuck that’s not what I want to say.”

George opened his mouth to speak, but Dream continued his ramblings, “Well I mean it is, I was going to ask you, but I wanted to do it in a super romantic way, down on one knee and all that movie bullshit, but I couldn’t help myself, I was just watching you and I couldn't stop the words from coming out my lips. You're perfect and I want you to want me in the way I want you, well I know you want me in the same way it’s just-”

Dream stopped himself, he was talking too fast for his own brain to keep up so there was no way that George’s brain was keeping track, “Okay, i’m going to speak slower now. George I love you, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You deserve the world and more and I want to be the person who gives it to you. I will always try to give you what you want, so, George Henry Davidson, would you please do me the honours of marrying me?”

George’s hand was still hanging limply holding the fork, the cheesecake had long since fallen off, but his brain was frozen in time, buffering not providing any sense.

Dream was slowly starting to doubt himself. Throughout this whole ordeal of dates coming to chaos, he had never considered that Geogre would say no, he had always imagined George climbing out his seat and falling to the floor with hushed confirmations falling passed cherry lips as he held Dream close, yet here he was, frozen in his place no rushed ‘yes’ falling from his lips, just breaths of air falling from parted lips.

“Georgie, you’re making me nervous here.” Dream scratched the back of his neck, a clear indicator of his nerves and discomfort, “Also, I'm not trying to sway the vote here, but my mom did say if I didn’t marry you she would disown me, so there’s also that to consider.” as a cherry on the pie, Dream put the open box containing the ring on the table.

George blinked. Then he put the fork down. Almost as if his brain was working on a time delay, he looked down to the ring, then back to Dream, brain working overtime to make up for the lost response.

Just as Dream was about to give up, he reached to pull the ring from the table, but a smaller hand stopped him from retrieving it. “No.”

“What? No you won’t marry me?” His heart hurt, but if this is what George wanted, then he would be perfectly content just being together, having no legally binding promises of forever.

“What? No, yes!” What?

“George, please, I'm confused.” His tone was tired and desperate, George’s confusing answers definitely weren’t helping him. He just wanted to get the evening finished and mope in silence.

“Sorry, I mean yes I will marry you, sorry I was saying no to you taking my ring.” Oh.

“Oh your ring?” Dream was smiling now, he couldn’t help it. He had somehow managed to convince the world's prettiest boy to be his for the rest of eternity.

“Yes my ring, it was a gift you know?”

“Oh, from who?”

“My fiance.” He punctuated his statement by placing the ring on his finger.

The ring in question was a black band that contrasted against his pale skin, it had a small diamond embedded in it along with 3 letters engraved on the inside. When they did decide to tell the fans, they would never know that ‘DNF” was engraved on the inside; that was their secret, (Although when George figured this out he would go on to make fun of him for a couple days and find slick ways to bring it up on streams without revealing anything).

“I love you George.” and he really meant it. How could he not. It took them a while but they made it. They were going to get married, adopt a bunch of cats, and possibly children if George agreed, and they were going to live happily ever after, just like they deserved.

“I love you too Dream.”

Notes:

so no smut. just fluff. Also fun fact, when i picked the date for their anniversary, i didn't realise it was 404, i literally just picked my best friends birthday.
