Chapter Text
A world where people have a chance to be born with an uncanny power that manifests at the age of 4… A quirk.
80% of the population has one while the other 20% has none.
Some people choose to be villains or criminals, thinking they will be able to get away with crimes due to them having quirks.
Others choose to be heroes and do acts of greatness to combat the darkness that is of villains.
People that are quirkless are the unfortunate, but they're not by themselves. Even people with some of the greatest quirks can live very unfortunate lives.
That is what one girl learned on a fateful day where she almost lost her life to a killer that spared her life.
.
.
.
“Yo Jiro!” A blonde boy said walking toward a purple haired girl with earphone jacks for ears. The girl looked at him with a bored look on her face.
“You were awesome during the Hero vs Villain training, We make a great team.” He said and the girl whose name was Kyoka Jiro sighed.
“Well considering that your brain cells have to heal after using your quirk once, i'm going to have to disagree.” Kyoka replied just wanting to be by herself for the moment.
“Hey, that hurt.”
“It's the truth.” She scoffed, plugging her ear jack into her phone while waiting for class to finish. She began scrolling through the news for something specific as she listened to music.
‘Found it.’ She thought to herself as she was reading a murder article from a month and a half ago that took place in Musutafu, where she lived. The murders have been happening in alleyways or at the side of a building. They happen once every one-three months.
No one has been able to capture them yet as they always make a fast getaway somehow. No one is able to get any camera footage because they either mess up the cameras with their presence or don't appear in video after it's recorded. must be their quirk.
Kyoka sighed as the school bell rang and she got out of her seat and grabbed her bag.
“Get the hell out of my way, Ears.” An Ash Blonde said, walking past her and bumping her shoulder.
“The hell’s his problem?” Kyoka grumbled as a Raven haired girl walked next to her.
“I-…. I don't really know.” She said as she walked by.
Kyoka got out of school and started speed walking to the train station. She preferred to live a good life rather than being dead. I mean yea, she is attending the 1# hero school in japan, but she only started yesterday.
As she stopped for a minute and looked to her left to see a music store and decided to take a look inside.
The voilette walked in and started browsing around, checking if there were any albums that were new and she needed to get.
Kyoka came from a family of musicians, so nerd for music. She found nothing of interest since everything they had she had already owned at least one of. She had walked out of the store with a sigh.
“That was a bit disappointing…” She said as she walked by a building. She was grabbed by a black hand by the back hem of her school shirt and brought into an alleyway. “What the fuck-!”
She was pinned to the ground by a girl who wore a black and a black skirt and she seems around Kyoka's age, 15. She had green fluffy hair with emerald eyes that looked tired. She had a large kitchen knife at hand with dried blood on it and with the other hand she held down Kyoka.
Kyoka was scared, or at least she should have been. But she couldn't help but feel happy. She had no idea why she was so uncontrollably happy. Just a minute ago she was bummed out. She should be terrified! Instead, she just laid there, pinned to the ground with a closed eye smile.
“Why…..” The greenette softly spoke. “Why do they all smile?” She said again and Kyoka looked at her. She had tears falling from her eyes and falling off her face. Her lips were quivering as well. “Why do they s-smile? I-I want t-to be happy like they are… I-It's not fair. Wh-Why can’t I be happy?” The girl dropped the weapon and let go of Kyoka and out of nowhere, Kyoka began feeling normal.
She looked at the girl who was bawling out tears in front of her. This wasn't a cold blooded Killer. That is what Kyoka thought at the time as she reached for one of the girls hands, but she paused and thought for a minute. “Can you hear me?”
The girl nodded.
“Can I touch you?”
She nodded once more.
Kyoka was a bit nervous, but she grabbed the girl's hand calmly and put it to her chest. Suddenly another burst of euphoria came through her. “Can you feel my heartbeat?” She asked in a calm, but happy sounding tone.
The girl nodded. “I want you to follow my breathing ok?” She nodded again.
Kyoka began breathing in and out slowly and the green haired girl did the same. The girl calmed down eventually and looked at Kyoka with her face which was completely tear stained. “Better?” Kyoka asked which she received a nod from the girl.
“Can I ask you three questions?”
The girl nodded.
“Do you really want to kill people?”
“N-N-No….” The girl replied and Kyoka almost cooed hearing the girl speak. But this also proved what she thought, she didn't want to commit murder, so Kyoka had to assume one of two things. 1. She couldn't help it or 2. She is being forced to do so.
“What's your name?”
“I-I-I-Iz-Izum-i.” The girl was breathing a bit frantically again and Kyoka reached out to her.
“Hey, it's fine. I-…I’ll just call you Izumi for right now, is that ok?” Kyoka said
She nodded.
“Do you want a place to stay?”
“p-please…”
Kyoka held the girl’s shaking hand. She was about to walk out the alleyway but the girl jerked back. Kyoka looked back at her confused.
“I-I-I d-don’t like the light…”
Kyoka clicked her tongue with her teeth. She thought until she remembered seeing some hoodies in the music store. “Can you wait here for a little bit?” The girl nodded as she walked to a wall of the alleyway and sat while having her arms wrapped around her leg.
Kyoka walked into the music store and went to find a hoodie that was around her size since Izumi was around Kyoka’s height.
She found a black and purple one and grabbed it. She went up to the register and bought it and got out in a hurry.
She honestly didn't know why she wanted to help the girl so much. I mean she just tried to kill her. But, maybe Izumi won't be so bad? Even though what she could be doing right now is a felony….It's only a felony if anyone figured out that she IS the murderer. And that is a small price to pay for a chance to make someone’s life better, or at least that is how Kyoka saw it.
After Kyoka paid for the hoodie, she walked out the store and walked back to the alleyway and still saw Izumi there. She was a little bit surprised that the girl decided not to run away. But this just encouraged her theory that she isn't just some crazy psycho.
“Hey….” Kyoka said and Izumi looked up at her. The violette handed her the hoodie. Izumi put it on and Kyoka motioned her to flip the hoodie on. “So the light doesn't hit your face, sorry it’s the best I can do for now.” The girl nodded while standing up.
Kyoka offered her hand and the girl was about to take it but hesitated. Instead, she held the sleeve of the violettes school uniform.
Kyoka started walking to the train station as Izumi held onto the sleeve of her school shirt. The two remained quiet the whole time.
Once they reached the station the train was already coming up. The two got on the train and sat beside each other, Izumi still holding tightly to the violette's sleeve.
“Hey, Izumi?” Kyoka quietly said, catching the attention of the girl who merely looked at her. “Is everything ok?” Izumi was about to nod, but then shook her head. Kyoka gave out a soft sigh. The train would arrive at their stop in about 8 minutes.
Kyoka, instead of putting her ear jack into her phone, grabbed a pair of earphones and plugged them into her phone. She put one in her ear and offered Izumi the other.
The Greenette took it and put it into her ear. Kyoka began playing some music to lighten up the mood a little which she could only assume that it worked being that Izumi was a lot less tense.
Now that Izumi was going to stay with her, Kyoka began to realize. ‘What room is she even going to stay in?’ The violette thought as she looked at the girl who was staring at the floor of the train.
‘….I did not think this through.’
Kyoka and Izumi have both arrived at Kyoka’s place. After they walked up the steps , the violette unlocked the door and Izumi let go of Kyoka’s uniform sleeve. Kyoka left the light off to let Izumi feel more at home.
Kyoka walked in and sighed in relief of her parents not being home yet. “So, this is my place.” She said with a smile on her face as Izumi took the hood off her head. The greenette looked around the house while standing in place.
“I-Its nice….” She softly spoke with a small blush.
Kyoka motioned her to follow her up the stairs and Izumi followed. Once they got up the stairs, Kyoka stopped at a door. “Here is the bathroom, my room is just over there.” She said pointing to the room across the bathroom. “You can take a bath if you want, you can use some of my clothes for now.” Izumi looked at her.
“…I-If I….I want?”
Kyoka raised a brow in confusion. “What do you mean?”
“…” Izumi looked at her silently. “…I don’t know.”
Kyoka giggled a bit. “I'll get you some clothes and some food.”
As Izumi walked into the bathroom, Kyoka went downstairs and into the kitchen. She decided to just throw some waffle fries and chicken nuggies into the air fryer.
Afterwards, she went to her room and grabbed a pair of one of her pjs and panties for the girl. She left them in the bathroom along with a fresh towel as well.
Now she had time to think. She didn't want her parents finding out about her yet, so that rules out the guest room, the living room and basically every room in the damn house. except for a few, like her room, the room she was currently in.
After around like, 15 minutes, Izumi came into her room. Kyoka blushed at the sight. ‘Holy shit… she is so cute-.’ Kyoka shook her head to gain her composure back. But when she looked back at her, she was gone.
“Uh- Izumi?”
“I-I'm in here.” Kyoka can hear Izumi’s voice through the closet door. Now… Kyoka had more questions than answers. Kyoka opened the closet and saw Izumi in an empty space there.
“…Huh.”
“I like it in here. It's nice.” Izumi said while staying seated inside the closet.
“How did you get in though? I didn't hear you open the door.” Kyoka questioned her.
“O-Oh… It's my quirk. It's called Sh-Shadow Stalker, I-I-I can t-teleport to any dark space that comes to mind and exist within a 100 mile radius.” The Greenette replied, wrapping her arms around her legs.
Kyoka was about to ask her about why she felt so happy all of a sudden when she pinned her down or whenever she touched her. But she didn't want to bombard her with questions so she will ask another time.
“I um…. I n-never got your name.”
Kyoka snapped out of her thoughts. “O-Oh its Kyoka Jiro. Anyways, would you like to stay in the closet? Like as if you sleep here in the closet and stuff? Sorry it's just tha-.”
“Yes please!”
“I don't want my mom and da- wait what?” Kyoka looked at the girl who’s face had one of pure joy. “Ok then, I made some food, it's nothing big though. I’ll be right back.”
Izumi waited for Kyoka to return. She couldn't believe she had attempted to kill this girl. Despite what had happened earlier, she still helps her, hell she lets her live in her house!
Once Kyoka came up the stairs, Izumi came out of the closet and sat down. Kyoka sat across from her. “It's nothing much, just chimken nuggies and waffle fries.”
“….chimken nuggies?”
“Yes”
As the two ate, Kyoka could see the joy that was across Izumi’s face. It made the purplette happy to know she was able to change someone’s life for the better.
Kyoka then heard a door open and close downstairs due to her quirk. “Ah shit, parents are home. Uh you can have the rest.” Kyoka said as she stood up. “I’ll be back later.”
Izumi looked at the girl with a smile. “J-Jiro, thanks…”
Kyoka blushed and smiled back at her. “No problem.”
It was the middle of the night and Izumi came out of the closet. She was completely invisible with only her eyes which were now white as snow being visible.
She walked out of the room with no noise made and walked into her parents room. She stood at the foot of the bed and what seemed like Kyoka’s father started to awaken.
He became wide-eyed when he saw the floating pair of white eyes. “Um… S-Sir, do you kn-know where the waffle fries are?”
“…Down stairs in the refrigerator”
Izumi then bowed. “Th-Thank you.” she then proceeded to leave the room and the man with a bunch of confusion.
“…I'm going back to sleep.”
Kyoka woke up the next morning with a groan. Once she had gotten out of bed, she took her morning shower and brushed her teeth.
She slowly opened the closet to Izumi asleep under the blanket she gave her and her head resting on the pillow in which the purplette also gave her.
She smiled a bit as she quietly grabbed clothes from her closet and closed it. After that she wrote a small note and left the room.
“I’ll be back soon.” Whispered she before exiting her room.
