Work Text:
Jo’on switched off her curling iron and placed it down onto her vanity. Her newly curled hair bounced slightly with the movement, it slipped down one shoulder and cascaded down her back in warm chestnut rivlets.
Jo’on tucked the runaway strand behind her ear, and reached for the crystal bottle of her favorite perfume Lalique’s Naiade . She craned her head from side to side as she spritzed it onto her neck. The cool flowery smelling spritzes landed against her bare neck and sent a small wave of goosebumps down her body.
The door across her room opened with a click . It was probably Shion, but she didn’t bother to look up. Instead, she opened a tube of heavy-duty non-smudge lipstick and began applying it. The lipstick was a dark rose, and complimented her sequined purple sheath dress lovely.
“Shion, the gummy snacks are on the second level of the pantry. Don’t you remember we moved them?” Jo’on said to the open air as she popped her lips together a few times to even out the consistency of the lipstick.
“Good to know.” Said a chuckling voice Jo’on immediately recognized. It wasn’t Shion, it was her date, Okina Matara.
She blushed and immediately slammed down the lipstick tube onto her vanity.
“You’re supposed to be waiting downstairs!” Jo’on protested. She didn’t like being caught half finished as she dolled herself up.
“Oh, such a nice welcome from my beloved.” Okina said with another chuckle.
Okina wheeled herself closer to Jo’on and stopped next to her.
Jo’on turned in her chair to look Okina in the eyes. How embarrassing, Jo’on thought to herself, she hadn’t even managed to put her eyelashes on yet.
“I’ll be quick.” Okina said to Jo’on sensing her distress. She smiled warmly and leaned forward to place a kiss on Jo’on’s cheek. “Then you can go back to your work.”
“Hm…” Jo’on turned towards the mirror and looked through it at Okina.
Okina simply smiled back at her for a moment.
“I have a surprise for you.” Okina said as she looked away from Jo’on and began shuffling through her coat for something.
Jo’on looked curiously at her through the mirror.
“You do? Couldn’t it have waited?” Jo’on asked.
“No, I do believe this is time sensitive.” Okina said as she found what she was digging for. She pulled out a small thin long box. It was wrapped in ivory paper with a single red bow atop of it.
Okina presented the box to Jo’on and said, “For you.”
“Oh!” Jo’on smiled. Even though others were inclined to shovel gifts at her, this had been the very first time Okina had given her something like this. Her eyes lit up.
“Can I open it?” Jo’on asked as she turned the box around in her manicured hands.
“Of course.” Okina said, leaning forward and placing another kiss on Jo’on’s cheek.
Jo’on excitedly pulled the red ribbon off then began tearing into the wrapping paper. She revealed a green velvet box, and slowly opened it.
Inside, waiting for her was a long and impressive pearl necklace. Jo’on grinned down at it, she ran two fingers over the line of perfect semi-pink pearls.
“It’s beautiful, Oki.” She said, still admiring it.
“I thought it might go nicely with your outfit tonight.”
“Oh, you’re right.” Jo’on said. She turned towards Okina and flashed her an excited grin. “My influence must be wearing off on you, you’re becoming quite the fashionista.”
“Oh, please don’t flatter me with false compliments.” Okina laughed as she waved it off.
“Help me put it on?” Jo’on said as she turned her body away from Okina.
Jo’on took the string of pearls out of the box and wrapped it partially around her neck. She then handed the clasped ends of it to Okina behind her.
Okina scooted forwards in her wheelchair a bit and took the clasp from Jo’on.
“Your hair is in the way, do you mind if I move it? I don’t want to mess it up.” Okina asked jokingly.
“I’m not that obsessed with it. Go ahead.”
“Sure you’re not.” Okina said lightly as she gently brushed a few locks of Jo’on’s hair aside.
Jo’on awaited the click that meant the necklace was secured, but a few moments passed with neither movement nor sound.
“Are you-”
“Just admiring the view.” Okina said as she leaned in where she had just brushed the hair aside. She placed a feather light kiss on the back of Jo’on’s neck. Jo’on felt goosebumps ravage her body at the contact. She dryly swallowed down a gasp, and found her hand was trembling even at that slight touch. That was the first time Okina’s lips had ever found purchase on her body save for her face. It made her cheeks heat up.
She heard Okina chuckle quietly to herself, then heard the awaited click she had originally been anticipating.
Jo’on sat up straight again and turned towards Okina, blushing deeply.
She found Okina was blushing as well, a welcome sight.
“You-...” Jo’on began, but trailed off.
“I?” Okina laughed and placed one hand on Jo’on’s knee. “I apologize, your beauty compelled me. The pearls were meant to be the surprise, not the kiss. Although,” Okina smiled a dazzling smile that set Jo’on’s heart into motion, “I hope you enjoyed both.”
Jo’on sat there, hot faced, for a few embarrassed long moments before nodding.
“Of- of course I did.” She said. She took Okina’s hands in her own.
Okina smiled and brought them up to Jo’on’s face. Okina cupped her hands around Jo’on’s face and pulled her in until they were only inches apart. Jo’on could feel Okina’s breath on her lips.
“You look beautiful in that lipstick, but I must ask, can I kiss you? I don’t want to upset you by messing it up.” Okina said..
Without a word, Jo’on wrapped her arms around Okina’s neck and pulled her in for a kiss.
Their lips met messily at first, but after a few moments they found their usual rhythm.
Okina’s hands traveled down from Jo’on’s face and snaked themselves around Jo’on’s waist. She pulled her forwards and settled Jo’on onto Okina’s lap.
Jo’on adjusted herself as she was moved. Recently she had found, with practice, she was able to comfortably and easily settle herself into the position.
Jo’on trailed her fingers through Okina’s long blond hair.
They kissed like that until they both had lost track of time. It was only when Jo’on managed to pull back did they come back to reality, albeit still panting and dazed.
“If you’re going to react like that, I should be getting you more gifts.” Okina said breathlessly.
Jo’on laughed, leaned in, and kissed her again.
