Work Text:

"Nia... She's gone.  She... She became one with the sea. That is, she remained, but this is not the same Nia that we knew. She... It was as if she had discovered a new potential or was born anew. I do not know what it is. But... She wanted to save Ninjago. And me.

She was told that she could die, but she did not listen.

Nia is a hero and always has been.

Zane also almost died in the battle with the Overlode, but he returned, and Cole became a ghost, but he also returned, and Nia... She won't come back.

That is, I believe that she will return..."

Jay sits down on the Wharf , and Kai is next to him. They both came for one thing: for Nya.

The Lightning Master first lets out a sigh and swings his legs, letting the toes of his feet slide through the black cold water, getting wet.

— Where is she now?" — he says softly.

Kai is silent for a long time, looking somewhere at the blue-white horizon and how the sea ripples easily.

He hypnotizes the sea for a long time before forcing himself to come out of the trance.

— I don't know, " he says. - I hope that wherever she is, she is happy.

— Do you think it was definitely Nia?

— I don't think so... My little sister would never say that she belongs in the sea. Her place is next to us and she knew it.

— So she's dead?".. Jay asks with great apprehension.

— Inside, probably, - Kai shrugs, — I don't understand it.

There is silence and Jay is swinging his legs again.

"- I'm Nia. Me and the sea. We are united.

- I... I love you.

The Water Master smiles.

"Tell my mom that I realized how the cookie crumbles."

— Does that mean 'I love you'?" Jay said out loud, and Kai turned to his friend.

— What are you talking about?

"Oh, I'm sorry. I remembered what I had said to Nya at the end. She still didn't answer.

"She loves you," Kai assured him, patting Jay on the shoulder. - Be sure.

- But... Wouldn't she have hugged me? he raised an eyebrow and looked into the Fire Master's face for an answer.

— Maybe that's what she meant?

— Nonsense, Kai, - Jay waved his hand. — She would have said 'me too' or something like that, but I didn't need to know about the cookies.

- Just don't worry about it.

— But I love her!" he suddenly exclaimed.

"I love her too," Kai said calmly. — I would also like her to be around.

Nya is my sister, for me she is the dearest person in the whole world. I... " he takes a deeper breath in his chest. "I miss her as much as you do.

Kai gets up and heads in the opposite direction. And then he stopped.

"Jay," he said. - Come on. We've already been missed.

— I'll stay here for a while — " he decided firmly, without turning to Kai.

The Fire Master gives a short nod and walks towards Ninjago City along the Wharf.

Jay hunches his back and drops his head down.

- Nya... — he says, making sure that Kai's footsteps have become quieter and further away. - Sometimes it seems to me that you are somewhere near... I can feel you. Probably.

You're the sea, right? he lies down on the wooden edge and gently and almost lovingly runs his hand through the water. — And how's it going for you? Ok? How are the mermaids, huh? Or what kind of residents are there? Fish, dolphins, sharks?

A seagull called somewhere, but there was no response from the sea.

— Answer, please, I know that you can hear me, - he looks at the reflection of the water, but sees only his muddy and blurry face. — Who am I kidding, - he sits down in his seat.

— I don't understand, isn't it possible to give some kind of sign or something else? If she really would like to come back, " Jay is indignant, but tears have gathered in his eyes.

Did Nia leave him? Have you forgotten? I've never loved you, have I?

"Give me a sign, Nya!" Jay shouts, getting to his feet. - Come on, didn't you want to see me!?

The sea was stubbornly silent and only especially strong waves were noisily hitting the shore.

— I'm here! I'm Jay, I'm here for you! — he persisted, throwing up his hands. — I'm waiting for you! I came here for you to at least... To hear you! - more tears roll down from his eyes and the guy sobs. - Because I love you, Nya. Whatever you are, I would never leave you — " he sits on his knees and lets his emotions take over, calmly giving up the chance to cry on the spot.

He couldn't just let his girlfriend go into the unknown or, much worse, into another world.

Jay realizes that he is seriously going crazy from this loneliness and separation.

Nya was the one he fell in love with almost from the words of Kai, as soon as he said that his sister was in danger.

She loved him, too, didn't she? Otherwise, she would never have gone on dates with him or let him kiss her.

They've been through too much together for their love to end this way.

It's just that sometimes Jay wanted Nia to remain a Samurai X until now and she never found out about the element of water, so as not to risk herself.

He ignores the fact that they were able to defeat Morro and Volhira precisely because of Nia's ability to wield water.

Jay raises his head to the sea and the cold air blows over his face wet with tears.

He stubbornly waits for an answer or some action to make sure that the sea hears him.

He lies down again and looks at the water, eager to see something other than his face.

The Lightning Ninja dips his palm into the water, as if he wanted to take someone's hand on the other side of the reflection.

An almost weightless weight touches his palm and Jay shudders.

He thinks that it is a passing jellyfish and tries to move his hand slightly to the side, but he realizes that something is squeezing his fingers.

He again denies that it could have been someone's hand or something else and blames the algae.

However, the blue glow makes Jay convinced of the opposite.

He crawls closer and sees someone else's reflection.

- Nia? Jay says softly, not even understanding why he immediately thought about his girlfriend.

The soft movement leaves his fingers and small circles form on the surface.

- Nia... - Jay lowers his other hand and also gets a soft movement near his fingers, as if someone really took his hands.

"Jay."

The Lightning Master does not understand where the voice is coming from and shakes his head from side to side.

As if... This was said by the sea wind or... Something like that.

Jay didn't understand.

However, reason suggested that it was Nia, and not anyone else, and the ninja decided to trust him.

"Is something wrong?" the voice asked softly, echoing in his head.

"Why... Do you look upset?"

"Are you Nia Smith?" Jay asked quietly, not believing that the sea itself had answered him.

"I'm the sea."

The guy fell into disappointment again.

This is not a research institute.

— Do you remember Kai? Master Wu? Cole, Zane, Lloyd? P. I. X. E. L. ? Me?

"Something familiar, but... I don't think it has anything to do with me."

-You are Nia. You are a Water ninja and a Spinjitzu master.

" Spinjitzu? Is it something like whirlpools?"

- No, this... - Jay gives up trying to tell about the great reception and still tries to focus on continuing the conversation. — How do you live there?

"It's okay, Jay. I am happy. "

- What do you remember?

" That I am one with the sea. "

Did you hear a lot of what I said?

"Almost everything."

You know, Nia —" he clenched his fists. — What I said is this... It's true. This is really true.

"You've been waiting for me. Yes, I remember. And I'm here."

- That conversation on the roof... Our last conversation. I told you that I love you... But you didn't answer. Jay looks at the reflection of the water again, but Nia's face has disappeared.

He waits for an answer and realizes that his hands have let go and the glow from the water has gone.

His jaw is shaking, and tears are pouring out of his eyes with renewed force.

She left him.

Why? What happened? What made her leave Jay?

He feels abandoned and doomed again.

He was abandoned again, right? Left without an answer, how many times already?

And then Jay realized that Nia was really dead.
