Izuku Midoriya was far from missing. In actuality he was right under their noses. The boy wasn't kidnapped or dead. This was all the cause of his quirk. A quirk he called spectator. When Izuku got his quirk he completely disappeared. There was no trace of him left. Except that he didn't actually disappear, more like shifted. He was now a spectator of the world around him. No one could see nor hear him yet he could still affect the world itself if he willed it. The boy was terrified beyond imagine when his mom couldn't interact with him. What was he going to do?

"Izuku! Don't go too far okay baby?!"
"OK MAMA!"
The little 4 year old was taken to the park. Inko, his mother, was sitting on a bench near the entrance. He was running around near the playground when he jumped off a rock and started to float.
"Mommy mommy! I got my quirk!"
His mother didn't answer though. He looked down at his hands and saw them have a clear sheen. He was see-through, but not entirely. You could see his skin tone, his freckles, his clothes, but you could also see what was below. It was like looking through lightly tinted glass.
"Izuku? Izuku! Izuku where are you!"
He turned to where his mothers voice was. She was right next to him, searching for him. He tried to get in front of her, barely making it as he wasn't used to flying yet. Once he was there he waved his hands.
"Mommy! Mommy! I'm right here! I'm here! Here! Look at me please!"
But she couldn't see him. He wasn't there. She stepped forward and walked right through him, as if he wasn't there. The poor boy started to cry. Screaming out to his mother who couldn't see him. He felt forgotten, as if he was a ghost.
"Izuku! Honey where are you! Izu! Izu please! Izuku! Enough this isn't a joke come out!!!"
"B-but I'm r-right here. I'm n-not hiding I-I swear! *hic* p-please!"
No matter how hard he cried she couldn't hear him. He flew in front of her again and again but she'd just see right through. Inko started to cry. She couldn't lose him. She couldn't lose him too.
Inko spent the next 4 hours searching far into the night for her child. Izuku was nowhere to be found, at least not in that world. The boy's tears had dried long ago. Now all he could do was sob without any liquid falling from his round green eyes. He felt useless.
Inko gave up. She couldn't call the police just yet. After all a person isn't missing until they're gone for 24 hours. She headed home. Maybe, just maybe, her son was at home. Maybe he'd lost sight of her and thought she was at home. And maybe if she wasn't there he went to the Bakugous. There was still hope, that's what she thought.
House to house. Building to building. Neighborhood to neighborhood. Not a single soul had seen her child. A few families and adults gathered to help for the search and after 24 hours the police got a call.
2 days later posters were printed and stapled as far as the eye could see. Izuku was a small child, he wasn't a priority case. He was from a middle wage family. Only had a mother. Not to mention there wasn't any talk of a quirk so he was labeled quirkless. Quirkless don't get search parties. Quirkless don't take priority. Quirkless don't get found.
That's just how the world worked. That's the reality Inko had to face. She had to face it all alone once again.
Izuku on the other hand had been with them the whole time. Tailing right behind his mother. He wanted to be in her soft embrace. He wanted to talk with her once more. He wanted to be seen. But his arm went right through her. His voice didn't reach her. His body wasn't in her view. Sorrow was all he felt. He didn't want this quirk. He didn't want any of this. But when was the last time life gave someone what they wanted. Izuku, what he wanted.
Time went on and Izuku saw the world around him. It was as if he was looking through a screen. As if no one was in the room as he watched this movie. He could hear them, and see them, but nothing else. He tried and tried but he couldn't touch anything.
He thought that if he trained his quirk, he could touch the outside world. Maybe he could go back to what it was before. With that goal, he lived on. It's not like he could die anyway. In this place he couldn't eat, sleep, drink, or touch. He was never tired, well physically. He was never thirsty or hungry.
Almost a year had passed and everyone forgot he existed. The name Izuku Midoriya was unknown. The pictures of him could not be recognized. The only one left who had an idea of who he was was Inko. Alas all she could remember was that she had a son. She would often see the pictures and tell herself "He must be my child, Izuku, right?" But no matter how much she tried she couldn't remember.
Izuku witnessed this. He witnessed everyone forget him. His mother would go to people and talk about Izuku but as the time went on they grew more and more clueless. She was treated as if she was insane. After all, how could a person exist if no one knew of their existence. People who had a light conversation forgot as soon as a week. How quick he was gone from their brain all depended on how strong their relationship was.
Every day he would try his hardest to do something. To affect the outside world in some way, but he failed. Over and over again, he would try, just to fall short. Slowly he would lose his resolve. He stopped trying as much. He stopped waving his hands around and crying out to random strangers or people he used to know.
Instead he let himself get attracted to anything that caught his attention. He got the hang of flying. It was expected since if he touched the floor he'd just fall through. He watched villain attacks and heroes at work.
Since he couldn't sleep and never felt physically tired, he watched over underground heroes. He would scream at them to watch out, to be careful, or would warn them. But they would never hear, at least he believed so.
On the one year anniversary, at the time he went missing, he was finally let back into the world. He ran home as quick as he could. He saw his mother on the sidewalk. He basically jumped on her and hugged her tight. She hugged back but it didn't feel the same.
"Well hello dear, where's your mother?"
Izuku knew this would happen. He had a feeling that if he showed up they wouldn't remember. But he so desperately had hoped that the second he returned their memory would with him. It didn't happen. He broke into tears. It's been so long since he was able to.
"Oh, come now it's okay. We'll find your mommy. Do you know where she is?"
The more Inko looked she thought of him as a little familiar but she couldn't place where she saw him.
"I'm sorry, but have I ever seen you?"
Izuku couldn't respond, only focusing on crying into her leg. She bent down and held him close.
"Of course you wouldn't know, you're but a child. I'm sorry. What's your name dear?"
"I-Izuku"
"Well Izuk- strange, are you sure we haven't met before? I could have sworn that name is familiar."
He cried even harder, now on her sleeve. She doesn't remember. He made a decision then. She looked happy without him, after all it was like he was never in her life. So, he'd let her keep moving without him. He'd let her live her life happy and unaware, even if it hurt him.
"N-no I d-don't know you. M'sorry you l-look like s-somone I k-knew."
"Oh, it's okay baby. How about you just calm down and I'll help you find your parents."
"I-its okay I k-know where mama is."
"Is that so? Then shall we find her?"
"NO! I- I mean I can f-find her."
"I can't possibly leave you alone, Izuku."
He choked down his tears and wiped his eyes. Now wasn't the time for this. He pushed himself out of her arms and ran. Ran as quick as he could. Until she was out of view. Inko tried to run after him but she couldn't find him. She went back home assuming he found his mother. The encounter left her feeling somewhat empty.
