Work Text:
Lucifer sat crossed legged on the hospital chair, somewhat awkwardly as he was far too tall for it, without a single crease in his three piece. He gazed admiringly at the beauty of his Detective, which he still saw in her despite the unfortunate acts of age.
Chloe had spent the last 40 years with Lucifer and she enjoyed every second of it. They watched Trixie grow up and become an adult, even if Lucifer will forever refer to her as his little urchin, they continued to solve crimes together and make the world a better place, they travelled and Lucifer showed Chloe all of his favourite places. And even as time went on and Chloe grew more tired, more forgetful, more wrinkly Lucifer never changed how he felt about her because he truly loves her.
As he sits next to her bed he still sees the same woman who shot him in the leg(which he always reminds her of btw), the same woman who conveyed her love for him despite him being the devil and the same woman who had such a gift that she saw through the image that his father had painted and opened up to him a whole new world of vulnerability.
At that moment Chloe turned her head to Lucifer and whispered "I'm scared". He brought his lips down to her ear and whispered back " You have nothing to fear my love, the time has come and I will be waiting, waiting for you to walk through those doors and join me at my side on the throne. And we will spend eternity together. Remember this is only the first chapter. I love you Chloe, I always have and I always will." She kept her eyes focused on his for as long as possible until the wave slowly took her under.
This felt much like a time from the past however this time Chloe was the one saying goodbye and Lucifer the one waiting patiently.
Lucifer kept his gaze on her afterwards for some time as a small tear escaped and carved down his cheek. He knew he was going to see her soon however the thought of her death still brought back painful feelings. Although he also shared a truthful smile as he realised he had read Chloe's first chapter but had so many left to go that he couldn't dwell in the past.
He made his way up to heaven soon after to await her arrival. With a freshly made throne to his left and grilled cheese sandwiches to his right, the Detective's favourite. He wanted to make their reunion special. So he sat tall on his throne with an ear to ear grin. And in that moment he maybe finally felt truly happy, truly carefree and in a mindset that he had not experienced before. It surprised him yet sent a shiver of warmth through him. It was hard to describe the feeling but he still quickly decided, that it felt like home.
So he waited.
And he waited.
And he waited.
But she never came. She never walked through the doors. Lucifer still stayed patient and just assumed the heaven waiting list was slow at the moment. He never lost faith in her.
Although as he sat on his throne, his everlasting grin drowned out a noise from below. A shout; if you listen carefully. A shout that embodied fear and anger and passion. From heaven it came out as a background murmur but down below the passion was much much richer.
If you were ever to end up in such an unfortunate place that seemed somewhat warmer than the life you once knew, then you may just hear those screams much much clearer. All day. All night. For centuries.
You might just hear the banging on the door and the screams from a certain Detective echo through the corridors. The continuous pleading of
"Lucifer"
"Lucifer"
"Please dont leave me-
Not again"
"I love you"
