Ganbatte!

Summary:

You had just moved into your new apartment with boxes now filling the room. Looking around at it all, a knot starts forming in your stomach. Doubts started creeping into your head as you sank down against a pile of boxes. You pulled your knees tightly into yourself as your head rested against them. It felt like an intense heaviness was pressing all around you. Just when you feel it about to engulf you, a hand gives your shoulder a gentle squeeze.

Work Text:

You had just moved into your new apartment with boxes now filling the room. Looking around at it all, a knot starts forming in your stomach. Doubts started creeping into your head as you sank down against a pile of boxes. You pulled your knees tightly into yourself as your head rested against them. It felt like an intense heaviness was pressing all around you. Just when you feel it about to engulf you, a hand gives your shoulder a gentle squeeze.

“(Your name), I brought up the last box.”

You looked up at the owner of the voice and there stood Daichi Sawamura. You two had always been close friends since childhood. He was always there to pick you up when you doubted yourself or give you advice. Now, you weren’t sure that he could even dig you out of this current state that your mind had put you in.

His eyes picked up on your unusual silence and lack of expression on your face. His hand left your shoulder only briefly as he joined you in sitting on the floor across from you. His knees were against your own while both of his hands rested on each of your shoulders. The gentle pressure began to ground you some and your eyes continued to look at him.

“Hey I thought only Asahi was the worrier out of us,” he said with a light chuckle trying to lift some of the tension in the room. You pictured Asahi in his studio sneezing or looking around feeling as if someone was watching him as Daichi made mention of him and a faint smile tugged at your lips.

“You’re worried about these new changes happening to you right now. Not only have you moved to a new unfamiliar town, but you’ll also be starting a new job tomorrow. That’s perfectly valid and normal to have those thoughts.”

He paused, giving your shoulders a squeeze as his gaze studied your face.

“What is not okay is to drown in those thoughts. Why are you doubting yourself, (your name)? You have always been so strong. You always have achieved whatever you put your mind to. You weren’t at the top of our class just by pure luck.

New experiences are what life is about. Some will be challenging, but you can conquer each one. If you don’t at least try, then you won’t know how those experiences could’ve shaped you for the better.”

Slowly as Daichi’s words ring against your ear, your body begins to uncurl from the tight ball that you’d been in. Feeling the heaviness leaving your space, you leaned over and wrapped your arms around his broad torso and your cheek rested on his chest; your silent thank you and way of telling him that you no longer feel as scared and doubtful about tomorrow.

“Now that you are feeling better, we should celebrate your move and new job with some meatbuns and beers. My treat! I’ll call Kiyoko, Asahi, and Suga to see if they are free as well.”

Notes:

I have been meaning to write and finish this prompt given to me by @SawamuraBear on Twitter where the reader has moved to a new town and nervous about starting a new job. This is strictly a platonic fic where the reader and Daichi are good friends with no romantic feelings! I hope that all of you like this despite me not really writing Daichi because it intimidates me😅

I also hope to make this a fluff (no NSFW) series/collection of one shots here with a genderless/gender ambiguous reader on AO3 or threads here if you prefer. I’m always open to suggestions of character(s) prompts which you can suggest in the comments.
