Work Text:
"Courier...." you call onto your lover, lightly tug onto his bloodied leather jacket
Moving away his newly lit cigarette, Courier turns to you. It's been a hell of a chase, since the two of you are planning to escape Kansai and the police choppers that's been after the two of you. Of course, he easily annihilate the choppers thanks to his bike's railgun, and for now he get to take a breath of relief and rest for a while.
As always, with his stern voice, shortly replies, "What?"
"I'm just... thinking about something..." you say again, as you gently rest your head on his back
Courier sighs, turning his back on you again, "Just tell. I won't judge."
Looking to the snowed distance, with the rails of the Shinkansen rising above. The sky is colored dark blue, with red and orange colors bleaks like blood who paints the asphalt streets of Kansai.
Taking a deep breath, you then start, "Don't you think... that I want to return to that night?"
White puffy smoke emerges from him, a sign of his breath mixed with the cigarette. The violet-eyed Akudama turns to you and hums, "Hmm."
You looks up, to see Courier gazing at you, lips parting slightly due to the cigarette he inhale, "Do you remember that?"
"You mean that reque—wish, to escape Kansai together?" he finally ask, the sternness of his voice fades away slowly
You nod, remembering that night, "Yeah... to escape this world and start a new one of us two..."
Courier looks up to the bleaked dark blue sky, as white snow falls to the two of you. That night was surely etched into his memory, seeing of how he and you finally had the same wish.
And it is to escape.
— I want to live together with you, no more of this hiding and risking our lives for the sake of our jobs...
You plead, on that night you now desperate to return to. Strangely, Courier doesn't bother to leave you after you said that. He maybe a maniac who prefers work than his personal life, who maybe prefers work way more than you—
But, he never step out from the safehouse, back to his trusty bike, resuming his job as one of the high-ranked Akudama on Kansai, after you pleaded. Right now, he hears to what you truly feel about him.
You thought to yourself, it wasn't very Courier-like.
Suddenly, an imaginary bulb lights off inside your head, signalling an idea,
— That's right! How about we escape this city? Maybe we could be free and find a city that would accept us...!
The smile you forced to him.
You don't want him to suffer more by seeing your mentally pained self. So, you force your lips to tug into that same smile you used to give him, one of the small proofs of kindness to the one who grew with no such feeling.
Folding his arms, Courier asks to you,
— That was quite a bold request. You sure about that
— Yes. And how much for the payment?
You finally brave yourself for facing that decision you've been making in that moment. Fortunately, with you as his lover, there would be no payment. He only smiles in amusement, thinking that this idea is worth the try.
— That can be discussed later.
And then, you were supposed to say something else to him. Something that's been inside your heart, on the tip of your tongue, but never let out after that.
You've been feeling this way ever since you started your relationship with him. The feeling of don't wanting to see him go away from you, and maybe he would not never come back after that...
"...Maybe this time, I'm sure that I can be honest about it..." you say, after the wind breeze sings upon the silence
Courier looks to the horizon ahead, occasionally letting out of the white smoke, as a form to release the pent-up stress. Continuing to stay silent, to be the listener for you.
You felt tears are budding by the corner of your eyes as you plead once again, "Please..."
Don't leave me...
And finally, he throws the cigarette butt to the piled up snow, letting the red flame to die off in the cold. Maybe, he had expected that word to come out of you. But, this is the first time for him to ever hear it, how your voice edges with sadness, how your smaller form slowly shook in fear and many unknown feelings.
Courier then shifts himself to take you onto his embrace. You opens your eyes in shock, as you quickly shakes your head to scare away the sadness that's wrapping onto you. He, on the other hand, just sighs on your usual doing.
He lightly scold you, "You little wimp." he then continues with a gentler tone, "Of course I'm not gonna leave you, you dumbass. How could you survive then?"
Courier as always, a bit rough of expressing his love to you. Rather than soothing you, he would scold you and calls you a wimp for being a scaredy cat for the fear of him leaving you.
But, you always knew that the next word he say to you would carry the genuine feeling inside him.
You can only sheepishly laugh on his remark, as you felt warmth is enveloping both of you. The sun is peaking from the horizon, coloring the sky bright blue. The land is covered with white snow—pristine and pure—unbeknownst of the evils on the ground.
This sunrise signals a new start.
A new start of a journey to find a world that maybe will accept worn-out souls like yours and Courier's.
For now, you rather enjoy his embrace on this pristine silence. With a content smile, now that those three words are out from the chains of your thoughts. Who knows, that it was also a way to say that you loved him, now and forevermore.
Deep down, he do understand that you loved him so much.
