The pain was her cross to bear, for a being a woman of course.
Feyre was feeling great when she woke up today morning, her happiness threatened to overflow as she lay in her mate’s arms and simply breathed him in.
They were busy like always and getting moments of peace when there were no meetings to run to, no buildings burning or no crying baby to look after was as rare as the Illariyans not boasting about themselves.
Feyre should have known that today morning was her last day of joy. She groaned in bed and wished for the mother to end her life.
“Mom” Nyx opened the door and peeked his head into the room. Feyre wanted to get up and hug her son for he had been in the Illaiyan mountains for the past week but moving felt like shards of glass were being dragged across her body.
“Mom are you okay?” He rushed into the room, concerned, Feyre almost laughed at the similarities between her mate and their son. He sat on the bed and was about to touch her forehead to check her temperature when his nostrils flared and Feyre knew that he scented blood.
His body stiffened and his eyes glazed over almost as if he was talking to someone in his mind. After he came to, he was at once turning her over this way and that to check for the wound and Feyre curled into a ball groaning louder.
“Mom, tell me where it hurts!” His voice rose an octave with each word, worry was now etched into his face.
That was when Rhys winnowed into the room in a flurry of darkness and mist, the room shook with his presence and he growled at the room as if someone was harming her.
Nyx ran to Rhys, “Dad, I checked everywhere but I didn’t see any wound but she’s in a lot of pain and I don’t know how.”
Nyx lowered his head in shame and Rhys held his shoulder, “Listen to me son, this is not your fault.”
Feyre screamed in pain and Rhys rushed to Feyre’s side, pushed her hair from her sweaty face, “Darling, tell me where it hurts? Who hurt you? What happened.”
Feyre couldn’t move but she decided that if she doesn’t speak up, that they might actually bring in all of Velaris to help her so she decided to gather her strength and spoke to both of them in their minds.
“I’m on my cycle you insufferable fools!”
“Oh my gods,” Nyx slumped on the bed in relief and finally breathed, “So that’s what a heart attack feels like.”
Rhys gathered Feyre into his arms and laid down in bed with her safely secured in his arms. “Darling, can you not scare me like this?”
Feyre felt a spark of energy so she replied, “It’s not my fault that your son is as overbearing as you.”
“Can you blame me, mom?”
Nyx laughed and moved to sit beside Feyre and she held her hand out to touch his cheek. Nyx smiled at her and her heart swelled with pride at the man that they had raised. Her happiness was yet again interrupted by a stab of pain down her abdomen and she curled into a smaller ball, straining against Rhy’s hands.
Rhys stood up and kissed Feyre on her forehead and whispers, “I’ll be right back.”
He looked towards Nyx, “Stay with her son.” he nodded and scooted closer to his mom and pushed back the errant strands on her face allowing her to breathe better.
“So mom I have some news.” Feyre raised her eyes to see her son looking nervous and her heart quickened with worry seeing her face Nyx shook his head, “No, it’s not anything to worry about.” Feyre sagged with relief and unwound herself from the bed and opted to sit up with a pillow on her stomach. Nyx started to fuss that she should lie down but she shot him a glare and he shuddered, making Feyre laugh.
“Anyway,” Nyx drawled, “So um..well, I met someone, but you can’t tell dad yet,” Nyx shyly whispered looking at everything except her.
Feyre almost didn’t catch what he said but she squealed with delight forgetting all about the pain that she was in.

Rhys heard a high pitched squeal coming from his and Feyre’s room and had almost tripped and fell with the tray filled with Feyre’s favourite chocolate, flavoured hot teas and a hot water bottle to put on her stomach. Cursing the stairs he rushed into the room to find Feyre sitting and giggling like a schoolgirl with their son, who looked at him with guilt and mischief shining in his eyes and Rhys sent a thank you to stars for listening to him when he had wished upon them.
Ignoring the burning in his eyes he set the tray down on the bed and demanded with mirth coating his words, “ What are both of you plotting and can I be included as well?”
“We’re planning how to throw Uncle Cass into the sidra as payback for him thinking that mom cant beat his ass at archery,” Nyx replied crossing his arms.
Feyre laughed and nodded.
“Oh, I am so in!” Rhys replied and that was the start of the elaborate plan to ensure that Cassian wound up in the sidra looking like a drowned rat.
