Skating With Her

Summary:

Ochaco helps you learn to skate, meanwhile you're facing your feelings for her.

Work Text:

You held your hands out in front of you in a haphazard manner, trying to somehow quickly regain your balance on the ice. Your ankles rocked from side to side, threatening to fall below you any moment now.

"Uraraka - !"

"I've got you, don't worry!" Ochaco gave you a reassuring smile. You looked down at her ice skates. How could Ochaco simply stand there? She looked up at you, her eyes telling you that'd you'd be fine. You tried to steady your ankles on the ice, only to press down on your right ankle a bit too much. You started slipping, Ochaco reaching out to support you. She caught your arms, surprising herself that she could even hold you.

"You're going to get the hang of this soon okay? I promise!" Ochaco's chocolate brown eyes looked you straight into your eyes.

You glance around the skating rink, noticing other skaters easily glide on the ice, some even skating backwards. Some children could skate better than you and you were fifteen. Even your other friends in the rink could skate. But that shouldn't be a surprise. You took a deep breath, shifting your forearms away from Ochaco and pushing your left foot backwards.

You felt yourself slowly drift away from Ochaco. You kept your arms out at your sides, prepared to catch yourself if you were to slip. Your pants were already wet from the ice earlier, your ankles were pretty sore and your head was starting to feel dizzy and your throat felt dry. But it was not only worth learning how to skate, but you got to spend time with Ochaco as well.

"Am I doing it...?" you asked faintly. You looked over at Ochaco who seemed to be smiling at you. Her smile brought butterflies to your stomach, but you couldn't let yourself get distracted! You were actually standing on the ice longer than you ever hand the whole day. Earlier you even sat in the center of the skating rink for a solid fifteen minutes.

Ochaco clapped her hands together, watching you slowly slide away. She started to push herself towards you. "You are doing it, (L/n)!"

You blinked, taking a moment to process it. You gave the brunette a closed eye grin, placing your hands on your hips. "I told you I would be able to do it soon!" Your eyes shot open, however, when your ankles started to shake again. This time you were able to quickly catch yourself.

"Now how do I actually skate, Oc - Uraraka?" You had a tendency to call her by her first name, but most times you were able to save yourself. You called her by her first name at times only because you had wanted to. It made you feel closer to her. "Ah...I'm sorry. I would so bow right now if it wouldn't cause me to completely break my face."

You couldn't tell if the faint pink on Ochaco's cheeks were either natural, from the cold, or a blush. "It-it's all right! Let's take a break...yeah? Surely you have to be tired after all of that..."

"Maybe a little tired, but I want to continue." You held your arms out towards the railing that ran around the outside of the rink. "I've come this far, why stop now?"

"Well we don't want to break your ankles or push you too much," Ochaco told you. She brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "Can't we save it for next weekend?"

"I'm going to forget how to stand on the ice by then."

Ochaco let a sigh escape her lips, looking up at you. You were taller than her, but not by much. "Okay. But I'm going to sit down after fifteen minutes. My feet are killing me."

Your eyes lit up. You didn't know what exactly got you excited all of a sudden, but whatever it was made you happy inside. Your brain kinda felt fuzzy but it was okay. If you couldn't tell by now, you admittedly had a crush on the brunette. She made your heart lift up and stomach suddenly disappear. You loved spending time with her.

Ochaco spent the next fifteen minute teaching you how to actually ice skate. It included many failed attempts, and falls, but by the end of your time together you were able to skate short distances. That was until your feet started slipping away from each other on their own.

By the time the two of you reached the end of your skating session, your feet probably had blisters and your legs had bruises all over.

You and Ochaco turned in the rental ice skates, heading towards the exit of the building. Everyone else was still inside the skating rink.

"I'm sorry for tiring you out, Uraraka..." you mumbled, shoving your hands inside you coat pockets. "You couldn't been having fun with everyone else the entire time."

Ochaco glanced over at you before looking away and taking a sip of her hot chocolate. "You're fine, (L/n). It was fun."

"You sound dead though."

"Ah..I'm sorry. I'm tired.." Ochaco raised a hand to scratch the back of her neck, her hot chocolate sitting in the other. You looked over her tired features, smiling a little. "You had fun right?"

Your smile grew. "I did. Wish I could've joined the others though." You didn't mind having to spend all of your time with Ochaco for the day, not at all.

"Maybe next time a few others can join us when we get you on the ice again! That way we aren't as lonely." Ochaco looked at you, drinking her hot chocolate.

"I kinda liked it when it was just us though too." You said. You pushed opened the glass door, pressing your back against it to let Ochaco walk through. The cold hit you two pretty hard, the wind pushing your hair around. You let the door shut behind you as you walked to catch up with Ochaco.

"Why's that? You're friends with almost everyone. I thought you'd like at least one other person to join us," Ochaco commented.

"I just-" You took a deep breath. "It's nothing I guess."

"No, what is it? Obviously it was something worth telling if you started to explain." Ochaco's gaze remained on you for the time being. A lump has made it's way to your throat, catching all the words you had wanted to say.

"I sort of just....I sort of just liked it. You know? I can't - I can't think of the reason right now," you told her, your eyes on the sidewalk in front of you.

"I..don't really know what you mean, (Y/n).." Ochaco said slowly. The two of who slowed to a stop, facing each other.

"I don't know okay? You make me feel fuzzy and I enjoyed the time we spent together. This gets to me so much I worry that I'll do something stupid or say something wrong, and then you'll leave." You started playing with your fingers, trying to distract yourself. Maybe this was the moment where you said something wrong. You probably fucked up-.

"I've felt that way before. Heck, I feel that way now..." Ochaco murmured. "It's okay (L/n)!"

"What do you mean..?"

"I mean, it's okay that you feel that way! It's life. It'll be okay!" Ochaco gave you a grin.

"So is it okay if I do this then?"

"Do what-?"

You leaned down a bit, placing a soft, short kiss on Ochaco's cheek. Both of your faces flushed a light pink. Ochaco took a moment to process what had happened. She gave a small smile.

Just that small kiss made Ochaco's whole heart lift up.

"I suppose it is."
