Work Text:
Ethan patiently waits in an eating booth. Opening his phone every once in a while to check the time, worried that his date may not arrive.
A few seconds later, he felt his phone vibrate meaning he had received a notification. He opens it, hoping it would be the person he'd been waiting for. Sadly, it wasn't.
It was his friend, Luther. Checking up on him. He decides to ignore the message and rests his head on the table, losing hope that his date wouldn't arrive.
"Hello, is this seat taken?"
He hears a familiar voice.
"Benji!"
He smiles, getting up and giving the boy a hug. Letting him go afterwards. Both of them sat down and opened the menu for something to eat.
Benji scratches his head, "Sorry. I was, uh, late. Traffic, y'know?"
"Oh yeah, totally. Traffic is the worst. You don't have to be sorry, I completely understand." Ethan nods.
"So, like.. this is a date, right?" Benji asks.
"Oh, of course it is. Why do you ask?"
"Just checking.. heh." He sighs in relief. Looking at the dessert options.
Ethan looks around for a waiter, until one sees him and goes to their booth.
"Hello! My name is Emi, what can I get you both?" The worker enthusiastically says.
"I'd like a-"
Both boys speak at the same time.
"You go first." Ethan gestures.
"Heh, thanks." Benji shyly smiles before continuing, "Could I get a slice of vanilla cheesecake and, ooh! A.. strawberry shortcake milkshake?"
The waitress happily starts writing on her pad of paper, "Sure thing, sir. Those are my favourites as well! What about you, sir?" She looks at Ethan.
"Do you guys serve any coffee here?" He asks.
"Aw, no we don't sir. But we do have our special Quadra-C milkshake."
He raises his eyebrow, "What's that?"
"It's the Chocolate Chip Cookie Coffee milkshake! Would you like to give it a try? We only serve it during Fridays and it's a customer favourite!" She beams.
"Sure, I'd like to."
Emi starts writing once more before repeating their order, "So you both would like a slice of vanilla cheesecake, a strawberry shortcake smoothie and one Quadra-C milkshake?"
"Yup." The brunet replies.
"Alrighty, your order will be ready in 15 minutes. Thanks for ordering!" She gives them both two squares of paper with heart stickers then happily prances away.
"That waitress sure does look happy." Benji comments.
Ethan looks at her, "Let's hope she isn't faking it. I love your shirt by the way, the pattern looks great."
"Thanks.. Ilsa picked it out for me. She says that white looks good on me."
"Well, she's right about that."
Benji smiles, Ethan grins. The older of the two started sniffing the air.
"It smells like vanilla, like perfume vanilla."
Benji looks at him, "That must be me. I have and use perfumes like that. Sorry if it doesn't smell nice."
"What? No, no. It smells great, it suits you! Don't worry, I love that scent anyway. Especially on you."
"You're still corny, Ethan." Benji scoffs then giggles, the other one joins in.
"These stickers are so cute. Look at this heart, it's blushing." The blonde hands him the sticker.
"You're right, it's so cute. Like you!"
Benji grins but keeps looking at the rest of the stickers. Ethan suddenly leaned towards him and placed a sticker on his right cheek.
"He-hey! What is this- oh." He feels for the sticker on his cheek but doesn't peel it off.
"Payback!" Benji says, leaning across the table and placing a sticker on his left cheek, "There! That one is sticking its tongue out."
Ethan chuckles, "Yours is smiling."
Benji sits back down and grins from ear to ear. Then the same waitress from earlier comes back to hand them their order.
"You two look like you're having fun. Are you guys a couple?" She wonders.
"Oh, uh, well.. this is our first date. But we've known each other before." Ethan answers, but Benji was busy looking at his vanilla cheesecake.
"Just ring that bell when you're done eating and want the bill, okay?"
"Okay, thanks." The brunet responds.
"You guys would make a great couple by the way- oh! I see new customers. See you guys later!" Emi once again, prances away.
Ethan thanks her then takes a metal straw and puts it in his milkshake, taking a sip afterwards.
"Mmm, this tastes amazing. You want a taste?" Benji asks him.
"Oh, no thanks. It's yours."
"It's alright, Ethan. Do you want to taste it?" Benji says once more, handing him the same spoon he used.
"Alright then." Ethan takes the silverware and takes a bite, "You're right, this does taste good."
Benji stares at his eyes, "Wanna share?"
"Uh, sure. If you're alright with it."
And with that, both of them started taking turns at the spoon until they finished the dessert.
Benji finally takes his first sip of his own drink, "Tastes sweet, just like what I last remembered."
"What do you mean?" Ethan gives him a look of confusion.
"Ohh, it's nothing. I grew up eating strawberry shortcake with my grandma and it brings up so many happy memories." Benji explains.
"Aw, is she a good baker?"
He stirs his milkshake, "Definitely. She used to bake my birthday cakes up until I was 26. Then she got sick, and you know what happened next."
"Yeah, sorry for asking, Benji." Ethan apologizes, the blonde reassures him that there was nothing wrong.
-
After they both finish their drinks they finally ring the bell and Emi walks back to them.
"I see you two are done. Would you like the bill?"
Ethan nods, "Yes please." and the waitress hands him the paper and he hands her the money that was required.
The waitress gives him a receipt, "Ookay! You're all set. You may leave now."
"Thank you, we'll be on our way." Benji finally spoke up and Emi walks away.
"So.. is this it?" The younger of the two asks.
"Of course not. C'mon, we're going to my apartment. The balcony there is peaceful and beautiful, especially at sunset." Ethan gives Benji his hand to which he happily takes.
-
"Where is this apartment of yours located?" Benji asks, looking out the window to observe the clouds.
"You'll see."
A few turns later, they eventually reached their destination. Benji stepped out and patiently waits for his date to guide him inside.
Ethan took his hand and walked him inside. After passing a few people and employees, they then get to his apartment.
He, Ethan, fumbles for his keys until he finally finds them and opens the door.
"Not bad. I was expecting it to be untidy." Benji says.
"Okay, I'm not that messy."
The blonde chuckles, "Heh, I know. I was joking."
After closing the door he says, "This isn't what I was talking about, by the way." Ethan points upstairs, "It's up there, follow me." Benji obliged.
Once they got there, Ethan opened the balcony door and asked him if he wanted anything.
"Hmm, a cuddle right now would be nice.."
"No, Benji. I mean do you want anything to drink? Perhaps, a mug of coffee?" Ethan laughs.
"O-oh." Benji blushes, "Yeah, a mug of coffee would be okay."
"Righty-ho, be right back. Have a seat there, if you'd like." He points to the neatly arranged mini-couch.
Benji sits down, taking one of the pillows and hugs it. He then covers himself with the blanket, taking his shoes off first, of course.
He admires the sunset, thinking of how well Ethan had set up this first date just for the two of them. And how surprised he was when he asked him out.
His thoughts were later interrupted when Ethan joined in on the sofa with him and gives him his mug.
"Careful, Benji. It's hot." Ethan says faintly.
"Okay, thanks." Benji blows his coffee before taking a sip.
A few minutes later, Benji stares at his date's face and decides to break the silence.
"You still have that sticker on your cheek, by the way. It's funny." He giggles.
"Your laugh is cute. No, actually, everything about you is." Ethan stated, and stared into his eyes once again.
"Corny Ethan compliments strikes again!" The two of them start laughing.
The oldest of the two then looks at Benji's lips, he couldn't help but be happy at how adorable his smile is.
Before he knew it, he was slowly leaning in and so was Benji, then their lips met. The kiss was soft, warm and sweet.
Once the kiss was broken, they both just admired each other's eyes. Not wanting to look away fearing they might ruin the moment.
The blonde then leans against Ethan, listening to his heartbeats as they both watch the sunset.
