Work Text:
Whenever I see an empty road that twirls and swirls into a sunset, sinking
I want to come to you
As if in this whole wide world I am the only one existing.
I want to walk and walk and walk until my feet hurts and then some more
Until I can't move at all and have to sit as the lonely nights fall
I want to lean against a tree, dig my heels into the warm dirt
Listen as things wake up, for there is nothing around me that sleeps when the stars show up
I want to get cold, tremble, my teeth should clatter and when I look up, I should feel humble
And see all the stars looking down upon me in their glory, unattainable
Just an ant, tired yet impatient and restless
And I know for me there is no rest as my feet always itches for new places
To watch the sun rise at, wistfully shielding my eyes against the sting of the bright, stubbornly needing to see it nevertheless
The empty road will twirl and swirl and I will follow the mountains, the rivers and the asphalt melts
I will see little flowers of the wild and stop and admire
Maybe make myself a crown out of them to adorn my restless head
And I will climb breathless and go down the hills like the free wind and skip and run
Because I want to come to you
But I can't picture the moment we'll meet in my mind.
I want to follow the sun and the moon should trail behind me in solidarity,
With none of us capable of catching the other but locked in this silent melancholy
Nothing but the sky and the earth and all the restless things in between... and I
I want to come to you
But I don't know where you are.
