Summary
Still reeling and recovering from the events of S3 and Steve’s arrest, he ends up with a fractured relationship with his unit, a dismal sense of self-esteem, and some bloody weird, painful feelings that he hasn’t even managed to identify brought to the fore.
It’s just that he’s trying to mend his friendships. No other reason why he just wants to make his gaffer laugh, while they’re stuck up in the driest conference ever to plague Cornwall; and why every reprimand stings. Why he wants Hastings to be casually, physically affectionate with him just as much as he doesn’t. Why he never, ever wants to get into the explanation for why being grabbed by the upper arm makes him flinch away.
But close quarters always seem to spur conversation. Harder ones, easier ones, and the specific kind that leave him lying awake in an overbooked hotel.
