Notes:

wow first chapter thing this is insane (i know it's short but i'm not an amazing writer and i really wanted to end the prologue with that scene which is only like 5 minutes into the movie lmfao)

for my twitter family <3

also, there’s strong usage of the f word in this + sirius uses celsius so 75 cel is pretty hot (it has been brought to my attention that it doesn’t seem like i’m over exaggerating the 75 degrees part but i am!! i meant it to be like saying “it’s like 5000 degrees today” but in celsius)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Sirius Black is tired. Tired of not being able to catch a fucking break. And no, it’s not because of the struggles of life and the fact that he is an aspiring actor (and failing, but that’s neither here nor there) in his early twenties working as a barista with no college degree, but because of the heat. The stupid, Los Angeles heat. Every fucking day. God, it is truly something he never got used to. I mean, yes, he hails from the one and only London, England, but something about the Southern California heat is just different. Maybe it’s the fact that everything is made of concrete, or just that LA is closer to the Southern Hemisphere — but it doesn’t matter to him. It’s just. Fucking. Hot.

I mean, he did choose to move to the heart of Southern California. But he didn’t choose the heat. Nonetheless, it was far better than living with that awful family of his. If only he could get his brother to come with him as well. Regulus deserved far better than what he got, both by his family and life itself. He is almost eighteen, Sirius thinks as he ties his long, black hair into a ponytail, so there isn’t much Mum can do to him after that… God, do I hate those fucking tories. Evil people, I tell you. I mean, truly, how could a family that awful birth me of all people?

See, if you had to know anything about Sirius, it’s that he really does love himself. It can make him stubborn sometimes, but the appreciation he has for himself truly is something everyone admires about him. And here’s another secret (he’s always begging others to tell theirs, so why not share one of his?): he loves the people around him even more. Well, to be fair, it doesn’t seem as if he does due to his cocky, self confident front, but he just may be the most caring person you’ll ever meet. He wished his brother knew that, but he also knows that Regulus is just as stubborn as he is. And even as they grew up as close as two peas in a pod, getting older meant differing views on their family. Regulus accepted him for who he was, but the Black family would never accept a gay man — so while the Black family lost their loyalty to Sirius, Sirius lost his loyalty to them. So, over the past few years, he and Regulus grew apart — and Sirius misses him every second of every day.

Even without considering his brother's situation, it seems as if the world is plotting against Sirius — but especially today. Because not only is the heat unbearable, but the traffic is never-ending. Traffic on the freeways, highways, streets, inside parking garages — it’s everywhere. And it doesn’t help that he’s already running late to make his shift at the coffee shop on the Warner Bros. studio lot. And that he has an audition for a television show later today. But that’s not of importance because-

“God, this traffic is a fucking pisser. I mean, not only is it 75 degrees out here, but traffic too! And on the day of my fucking audition. I’m going to lose it," he mutters to himself, "fuck, I should go over the script again… ‘and I swear to God she was wrecked. It was pure insanity’… wait, insanity? Is that right? Hm- what in the world?”

That fucking car horn. That exact car horn would become known as the start of it all. Well, you could argue that it was the blaring sun that kick-started this, but for Sirius Black and Remus Lupin, that car horn would mean the world.
