Mutants! We're all familiar with them, most Neopians are afraid of them. We all know transmogrification potions have a special effect on each species of Neopet that gives them a certain shape, but did you know they're not all exactly the same? No two mutants of a similar species are identical! In this article, we'll cover the basic, visible mutations, as well as subtle differences that have been observed between different Mutant members of the same species, from Acara to Zafara.
Acara- Mutant Acaras' most notable feature are their glowing eyes and mouths, which can range from a subtle light to a bright neon one visible from a mile out. It's even been suggested their entire innards glow, too! Their toes are also different, with between three to five toes per foot per indivual. Their coats come in tones of red or brown accented with dark blue or purple accents.
Aisha- The first thing you'll probably notice about Mutant Aishas is the fact that they have three (working) mouths, as well as the lovely assortment of (working) tongues growing out of their spines. The biggest difference between Mutant Aishas is their skin type. While most Mutant Aishas are hairless, some come with a light layer of fuzz, and some even retain a normal fur coat like un-mutated Aishas. They come in shades of blue or turquoise, with small spots that can be faint or contrasting to their body color.
Blumaroo- When a Blumaroo mutates, their fur falls out and their skin warps. There's not a whole lot of notable differences between them, but some Mutant Blumaroos have more body hair than others. The sagginess of their skin varies by individual, with some looking like a typical Blumaroo, but hairless; and others looking like they've got clothes several sizes too big for them. They come in light browns, with some looking almost grey.
Bori- Boris are one of the biggest Mutants, being four to five times the size of a normal Bori, with huge paws and claws bigger than their heads. While they tend to have five main armor plates on their back, some have been seen with as many as ten, giving them a less-hunchbacked appearance. Their rough, shaggy coats are always green, with darker bellies, ear tips, and tail tips. While they tend to be a lighter green, some are a deeper color.
Bruce- Another huge Mutant, Bruces' most noticeable feature is the spikes covering their back, which can be small and stubby or long and pointy. The main color on their body can range from blue to purple, and they can have a couple or quite a few darker spots on it.
Buzz- Mutant Buzz have never looked too drastically different from their un-mutated fellows, with their biggest difference being a mouth full of fangs This can either typically be two big fangs jutting up from their bottom jaw, or a fierce, savage-looking with multiple fangs. They also have armor plated spots on the backs of their tails, and a few rare individuals even have multiple spots covering their backs. While they normally come in a dingy off-yellow color, they have been seen with bright yellow or dark yellow skin.
Chia- It's not an artichoke! Mutant Chias typically have five spikes on their foreheads, but some have them continuing down their backs for a few rows. They come in greens, with the main portion of their bodies ranging from a desaturated grey-green, to a rich dark forest green. Their tongues are a noticeable feature (especially if you're familiar with the infamous Florg), and can be pink to purple in color.
Chomby- The absolute biggest of the Mutants, if not one of the biggest 'pets around. These six-legged giants some in shades of purple and pink, and oddly enough for a scaly Chomby, they have a short head of hair and a goatee. Their hair can be any color with brown or black being the most common. The famous plates on their back are gnarled, and usually green. Last but not least, the big solid scales on their backs and foreheads are almost always red.
Cybunny- Mutant Cybunnies are notable for their huge incisor teeth, which stick out against their black coats. While in most these are the only teeth you can see, some have sharp pointy fangs sticking out alongside their other chompers. While at a glance they look like they're completely hairless except for their ruff and the tip of their tail, some of them are covered in a short layer of fuzz. Their big claws are usually black, but some have been seen with bone-colored claws that match their teeth. Cybunnies are another Mutant that's covered in spots, as well as having dark-colored rings around their tail and on the underside of their fleshy ears.
Draik- The first thing people notice about Mutant Draiks is their exposed brain! The amount exposed varies between individuals, but it almost always happens when they mutate. These guys have an all-around gnarly look, with bloodshot eyes, tattered wings and greasy scales. While they can get airborne, they're poor flyers thanks to the holes in their wings. They're still capable of breathing fire like all Draiks, but their flame is usually smoke and oily. Most commonly seen in a drab olive green flecked with large brown bumps, but they have been spotted with brown scales, and sometimes even patterns.
Elephante- One of the more... unique Mutants, Elephantes have only a vague resemblance to the rest of their species. With no legs, they crawl around like slorgs, though these guys are nowhere near as slimy. They gain an extra eye, and the only part of their faces that looks like an Elephante is their trunk and tusks. Their ears shrink and they grow venomous spines on their arms. Their bodies are shades of purple, usually lavender, and they can have few or many blue spots of any shade.
Eyrie- Mutant Eyries are one of the most ferocious Mutants, with enough spikes to match their usually sharp tempers. Their wings atrophy completely, leaving them unable to fly. Instead, they can use their 'wings' as a second pair of arms, and have more powerful leg muscles than their airborne cousins. They come in greens and browns, and tend to be found in mountains and caves in the wild. Their two pairs of eyes are especially suited to hunting in the dark.
Flotsam- If you ever see green slime floating in water, chances are a Mutant Flotsam has been in the area. While their three pairs of eyes give them a goofy appearance, they're just as formidable as Mutant Jetsams, and the spikes growing all along their backs aren't just for show. Some even have an ability to puff themselves full of water like a Bubbles. Their long tongues are especially handy for reaching into underwater crevices for food. They come in blues on top, with a silver or white underbelly, making them hard to see on the water's surface or from below.
Gelert- While not being an especially eye-catching Mutant, Gelerts certainly fit the description. Their eyes turn yellow and sunken. Their back and neck are covered with spines, ranging from a couple big ones, to dozens of thin quill-like spikes. Their fur becomes extremely oily, and turns shades of brown, green, or even grey. Mutant Gelerts have an unusual feature, where the odd hump of muscle on their neck gives them enormous jaw and neck strength. Chewing up bones is a breeze for these guys.
Gnorbu- Mutant Gnorbus are perhaps one of the grossest mutated pets. Constantly oozing slime and covered in dandruff and oily skin, they’re not something you want to hug. While normal Gnorbus are famous for their fluffy coats, these ones have barely any hair, except for the tip of their tails and some on the backs of their necks. They gain a type of ridge above their eyes, which gives them the appearance of having their eyelids constantly stretched up; don’t worry though, they can close their eyes just fine. Mutant Gnorbus come in shades of brown, tan, and green, with pink underbellies. Watch out for their claws!
Grarrl- The Mutant Grarrl is one of the least traditionally “Mutant” looking pets. Instead, they almost look like they belong in the Darigan Citadel. Their tongue gets very long, perfect for a non-stop eating machine. Some of them have even been known to grow an extra row of teeth after they mutate! They grow wings, and while they’re capable of flying, they’re usually not very good at it. They’re covered in spikes; the amount on their back varies, but they always have two Kau-like horns on either side of their skulls. They’re always a drab tan or olive, letting them blend into the Tyrannian landscape nicely. They have no markings except for two subtle dark chevrons on their snouts.
Grundo- Mutant Grundos absolutely tower above their un-mutated friends. They’re huge, and can be as many as ten times as big as normal Grundos! Most of that bulk is pure muscle, they’re one of the strongest Neopets around. While they’re famously used as Sloth’s mindless minions, they can be surprisingly intelligent under all that mass. They have a fairly simple, unified appearance, although some of the bigger ones have been known to have their lower teeth turn into tusks. They come in shades of green, almost always a bright apple green, with piercing red eyes.
Hissi- Famous for being two pets in one, Mutant Hissis are usually seen as unsettling. Each head has its own brain and personality, and despite what rumors you might hear, they cannot tell what the other is thinking. Each head operates its own side of the body, so if you’re ever being chased by a Mutant Hissi, get the heads to fight, and they won’t have the coordination to follow you. Instead of the normal wings that normal Hissis have, Mutant ones have arms that grow into powerful talons. They may not be able to fly, but they have immense strength and razor-sharp claws. Their scales are usually a muted green, and their spots are normally a washed-out brown. Some individuals have only a few spots, others are absolutely covered in them.
Ixi- At first glance, Mutant Ixis look just like their normal cousins standing on two legs. However, a closer look reveals something much more sinister about them… they have mouths full of sharp teeth! That’s right, unlike your cute little Pink Ixi, the Mutant ones eat mostly meat. They have very strong stomachs and can eat anything from tin cans to paper, but they’ll be the first ones in line to try a new juicy burger from the Food Shop. Mutating turns their fur green, ranging from dark forest green to mint-colored on their stomachs, with a variety of dark-colored spots. They also have a shaggy mane down their shoulders and backs, and their tails become long like a Blumaroo’s.
Jetsam- Jetsams who mutate become underwater nightmare fuel. Instead of a friendly-looking (not that there is such a thing) Jetsam face, their eyes stick out on different sides of their heads like a hammerhead shark. Some of them have not one, not two, but as many as four rows of razor-sharp teeth. Their lower halves turn into a mass of tentacles; usually six, but some have been seen with as many as ten of them. They have a surprising color scheme, as they turn bright red with some shade of yellow or green for accents. This can be an advantage for camouflage in the brightly colored coral reefs around Maraqua as they hunt for Flotsams swimming by.
Jubjub- Jubjubs are a fairly straightforward-looking Mutant. Unlike their cute and fluffy normal counterparts, their bodies are covered in a slimy mass of tentacles and rough fur. They have excellent night vision, with giant yellow eyes. Their color ranges from pale to deep green, with yellow or orange feet -- which come equipped with giant claws. Mutant Jubjubs are very good at climbing and jumping, as their legs are actually longer than normal. They’re very fast, so you wouldn’t want to have to run from one in the middle of the night!
Kacheek- The ever-popular Kacheek has a particularly grotesque Mutant version. They look almost completely normal, perhaps a bit bland, compared to other Mutants, but one thing is for sure: That giant, exposed brain is totally unique to them. While owners may be worried about making sure their pet has a helmet or some protective headwear, the brain is incredibly tough. They have bigger, longer teeth than normal Kacheeks, and they pack a nasty bite. Their eyes get bigger and turn shades or yellow, orange, or red with black sclera. Ever seen an angry Mutant Kacheek? The eyes glow! Their fur color ranges from desaturated light blue to slate grey, and they love to keep their coats soft and clean.
Kau- If you thought a Mutant Kacheek was boring, you’re in for a shock when you see a Mutant Kau. No other Mutant fits the word “horrifying abomination” quite like these guys. Instead of hind legs, their entire back half consists of a Hissi-like tail, and they grow two extra eyes. But the most distinct, disgusting feature about them is their mouths, which instead of a normal jaw have been replaced by a mass of tentacles surrounding a mouth. These tentacles are very flexible and they use them to break down food as they eat it. Despite this frightening appearance, they’re very laid back Neopets. They come in shades of red and yellow, giving them an oddly bright appearance.
Kiko- Mutant Kikos are a more traditional-looking Mutant. You can immediately tell they’re Kikos, but they’re covered in lumps and constantly ooze slime from their mouths. Their fingers turn into giant claws, which is helpful for them when they dig for food at the bottom of Kiko Lake. They’re nocturnal, and their giant red and yellow eyes help them see as clear as day in the dark water. Their skin comes in solid shades of grey to blue, with no markings whatsoever. Mutant Kikos also have a huge appetite, so anyone who owns one better be ready to keep a constant supply of food on hand.
Koi- Mutant Koi absolutely love gross, polluted waters and can be found happily playing around coastal rubbish dumps. They grow an extra eye and their fins become badly decayed, yet somehow this doesn’t affect their strong swimming abilities. Their bodies are well-suited for underwater camouflage, with the top being shades of green or brown, and their underbellies becoming light yellow or white. Their fins turn brown or pale, and their teeth become huge and sharp. Mutant Koi have long purple tongues, which they use to shift through garbage or grab swimming prey right out of the water.
Korbat- These guys are very, very low-key compared to other Mutants. You’d be easily fooled into thinking they weren’t even Mutants at all, just another color. The most distinct thing about them is they grow a long claw on the top of their wings, which they use to dig bugs out from inside tree bark. Their tails become thicker, but they still use them to hang off trees with no problem. One big difference between them and normal Korbats is while you can’t hear normal Korbats use echolocation, Mutant Korbats have a very loud, bone-chilling cry when they are on the hunt. Mutating turns their fur light or desaturated green, with a dark green ruff around their necks. Their claws turn either black or dark green, and their tail, wings, and inner ears turn shades or blue or indigo.
Kougra- Continuing in the trend of Mutant Neopets having very green color schemes, Mutant Kougras are very similar to their unmutated counterparts. The most distinct physical difference is the fact that their ears are larger and pointed instead of round, though when you look closer you see what really sets them apart: Their stripes aren’t just markings, they’re entirely hairless, fleshy parts of their body. Mutant Kougras also have much, much larger claws that stick out from their toes permanently, so owners will want to make sure they’re alright with furniture and toys getting accidentally mangled. Their coats give them excellent camouflage in the jungles of Mystery Island, though sometimes their bright red eyes can be a giveaway.
Krawk- Talk about freaky! Mutant Krawks have four arms, making them excellent swimmers. They grow an extra eye, giving them an advantage for seeing underwater. The odd thing about their eyes is they have three pupils in each eye, giving them an almost insect-like look, though they don’t seem to have drastically different vision than normal Krawks. Their colors are all shades of green and brown, perfect for hiding in fungus caves. Some individuals are covered head to toe in spots, but usually they seem to only have them on their arms and legs. Their scales are actually much smoother than typical Krawk scales, but their mane is long and coarse.
Kyrii- Mutant Kyrii are certainly a drastic change from normal Kyrii. While their apple-hating cousins are known for being small, sneaky, and able to outrun Sakhmet guards with no problem, Mutant ones are huge and imposing. Like Mutant Grundos, they’re full of muscle -- not all of that bulk is just fur. They have the classic Kyrii mane, of course, but it’s electric blue with dark stripes going through it. They’re exclusively bright blue, with an underbelly ranging from dark to light cream. Rounding them out are giant claws on their hands and feet, making them even more of a threat in a fight.
Lenny- Mutant Lennies are not quite as horrible or grotesque as other Mutants. While they’re certainly a different shape than other Lennies, they’re otherwise very “normal” looking. What makes these guys gross is they love to eat rotten food, and they have the stomachs to back that up. Instead of the two-pointed hairdo other Lennies have, these guys have a single big swoop of feathers on their heads, giving them a suave appearance. Their feathers are usually brown, but occasionally they can look almost purple or red on some individuals. They also enjoy eating bones, so if your Gelert isn’t having any, give them to a Mutant Lenny!
Lupe- Hear a chilling howl in the mountains at night? Mutant Lupes like to make themselves known. When Lupes mutate, their fur turns various shades of indigo or purple, though some have been seen with blue shades. Their bellies and the tips of their tails turn darker than the rest of their fur, and like a lot of other Mutants, they can have a variety of spots. Mutant Lupes grow a metallic exoskeleton on parts of their bodies, most notably their skulls, with some “ribs” around their arms, shoulders and backs. This makes them liable to charge intruders and hit them with a good headbutt before doing any actual biting. They grow spikes along their backs, and their claws become enormous -- great for digging! Oddly enough, they have an affinity for garlic.
Lutari- With powerful limbs, flipper-like feet, and two giant tails, Mutant Lutaris are incredible swimmers! These guys are almost twice as big as other Lutaris, but that doesn’t make them any less graceful in the water. When they mutate, their fur turns almost entirely blue, letting them blend into the water seamlessly, though for whatever reason their eyebrows become orange. Their giant claws let them dig up and open clams and oysters with ease.
Meerca- Another contender for “almost normal”, the most striking thing about the Mutant Meerca is the single, angry eye. Yes, they have the typical Mutant “big teeth and claws” going, but if you saw a Mutant Meerca from the back, you probably wouldn’t think twice until it turned around. Then you’d probably turn the other way and run. Like normal Meercas, these guys have constantly growing teeth that they need to wear down by gnawing on things like wood. It’s a bit more drastic for the Mutants, and they can chew things up twice as fast, so if you own one you’d better be prepared for toothmarks on your walls. They come in shades of blue or grey, with a green or yellow underbelly
Moehog- Notable for being the pet with the cheapest Transmogrification Potion, Mutant Moehogs are… not very cool. Their hooves are replaced by paws, and these guys are not fond of moving around much. The only fur they have is the signature Moehog mohawk and some strands of hair on their tails; they’re otherwise completely covered in skin like the Mutant Blumaroo. They turn green, of course, with a peach-colored snout and belly. Watch out for those tusks, though.
Mynci- Big and fearsome, Myncis are another entry in “big and strong Mutants”. They can be three or four times larger than normal Myncis, and have quite a temper. They have a pair of horns above their ears, but a typical Mutant Mynci would much rather deal with a foe using its fists than these horns. Their feet turn into big claws, letting them climb up trees more easily with their added bulk. Dark green fur helps them hide in treetops, and they have been known to use those bright red spots to intimidate opponents. Of course, who wouldn’t already be frightened by a giant hulking Mynci with arms like Krell Vitor?
Nimmo- One of the newer Mutants spotted around Neopia, Mutant Nimmos are almost cute. The most notable thing about them is their bulk compared to the average Nimmo, and they like to throw their weight around and crush others if they’re ever in a fight. Their colors are shades of light blue or aqua, with a nice yellow or accent on their hands, feet, and the spikes on their backs. Mutant Nimmo can puff themselves up to look especially large, and their spikes all over do a good job of making this look more serious than silly. They do grow fangs, and have been known to hunt fish, but they still seem to prefer flies.
Ogrin- Mutant Ogrins are quite an eyeful! Of course, they have three eyes with some interesting-shaped irises. Interestingly their tails are almost a whole creature in and of themselves, they turn into something like a carnivorous flower. That being said, they still eat their greens like any other Ogrin does. Their front toes get sticky suction pads on the fingers -- and interestingly, their ears -- which allows them to balance on cliffs and rocks easier as they graze around. Mutant Ogrins always come in light, washed out shades in a mix of blues, reds, and green. The only constant with them is their spikes and horns are always yellow.
Peophin- One of the most vibrantly colored Mutants, mutated Peophins are true sea monsters. Instead of the typical paddle tail, they have a mass of tentacles they use to propel themselves around underwater with. No hooves here, either, only Crabula claws! Not to mention their manes turn from hair into things not unlike jellyfish tentacles. As with quite a few other mutants, they also grow a third eye on their forehead, altho all theirs are a striking bright green. Mutant Peophins are underwater scavengers and omnivores, not afraid to pick on leftovers from other pets alongside munching on seaweed. Their colors don’t stray much from bright yellow, purple and blue, which helps them hide in coral reefs.
Poogle- Now here is a very odd-looking Mutant. Like Acaras, mutated Poogles don’t really bring “Mutant” to mind so much as “interdimensional monster”. Mutant Poogles always come in shades of red and brown, which contrasts wonderfully with their bright blue glow. Nobody is really sure how or why the insides of their bodies glow, but they wouldn’t look out of place in a Tyrannian volcano at all. The glow actually changes color depending on their emotion, becoming green when sick and red when angry. Of course, they also grow lots of jagged spines, claws, and horns, along with a long tail, but it doesn’t slow down this characteristically speedy Neopet at all.
Pteri- Almost too cool to be called a Mutant, the Mutant Pteri is an extremely striking Neopet. Unlike their non-Mutant cousins, they are built for running instead of flying, and their slim build lets them reach unbelievable speeds. Almost their entire bodies are covered with smooth scales instead of feathers. Instead of fully formed wings, they have half-formed arms with wickedly long claws at the ends, while their beaks are jagged like the Mutant Eyrie’s. Three eyes round out their mutations and give them extremely keen eyesight. They come in very bright hues of blue and turquoise, with shocks of red on their faces and tails.
Quiggle- Mutant Quiggles are much more compact than your typical Quiggle, and their most visible feature is their three bright yellow eyes. They may look silly, but that constantly-drooling mouth hides rows of very sharp teeth! Of course, they join the many, many Mutants who grow claws. They do keep the characteristic Quiggle stripes, and mutating turns their skin various shades of purple.
Ruki- You know how a lot of Mutants grow extra limbs? Mutant Rukis are the opposite: They only have one pair of legs compared to the normal Ruki’s two pairs. They’re one of the more low-key Mutants, without much that’s too different from normal Rukis (besides the leg thing). They do grow spikes on different parts of their body, plus a ferocious looking set of mandibles and a stinger. Mutant Rukis come in very drab colors, with their bodies turning yellow, brown, or green with slightly darker spots.
Scorchio- These guys have an almost “alien” appearance, rather than “mutated”. Their wings turn into what almost looks like a mix of feathers and leather wings, and their eyes increase in size while their brows point upwards. They do get very large claws, and longer spikes, but there’s really not much that really makes them feel like they should be hiding in a sewer or something. Mutant Scorchios are usually blue or grey, with drab beige or brown underbellies.
Shoyru- Mutant Shoyrus are very simple little creatures. Their defining feature is their enormous jaws and bottom teeth. They grow two pincer-like claws on each hand, and typically have a few bumps on the top of their heads. Aside from this though, they don’t look too different from normal Shoryus. They come in light blue and purple tones, with some appearing more grey or lavender.
Skeith- Mutant Skeiths somehow have even more of an appetite than normal Skeiths; their mutation allows them to eat all kinds of otherwise “dangerous” objects with ease. Not to mention, their even bigger teeth than usual can really help them take a bite out of anything! Of course, they grow a backful of spikes and bigger claws, but they’re not as drastically different as other Mutants are. Their ears do grow out and they gain the ability to see in the dark, perfect for hunting at night. Mutant Skeiths come in red to orange, with green or yellow underbellies and spikes.
Techo- One of the more vibrantly colored Mutants, Techos have a wild appearance. Almost everything about them is “pointy”. They grow spikes on their shoulders and legs, their fingers turn into long claws, and they have a tail tip like a mace. Oddly their eye sockets even grow large and pointy, but this has no effect on their vision. Mutant Techos have extremely long tongues and drool slime, so watch where you step! They come in shades of blue on top, and red or orange on their bellies. This lets them hide in the trees of Mystery Island oddly well, as they can blend into the colorful fruits.
Tonu- Similar to the Techo, these guys are very sharp and very slimy. The Mutant Tonu is almost unrecognizable as its own species except for that big horn on its snout. Their most visible feature is that they are covered in spikes, and they drool slime -- they even leak it from their spikes if they’ve been broken off! Instead of a fluffy tail tuft, they’ve grown a club-like tail, and their bodies are completely hairless. To complement how tough the rest of their bodies are, Mutant Tonus have a row of protective scales down their bellies. A mouthful of sharp teeth tops off their very pointy appearance. Mutant Tonus are almost always green, but some can have more blue or grey skin.
Tuskaninny- Mutant Tuskaninnies, of course, have very very big tusks, like their Tyrannian color. They’re also about twice the size of a normal Tuskaninny, and extremely strong. They gain a lure on their heads -- because they’re very deep sea creatures -- and a skinny little tail, but on the surface they’re not too different; just less “cute”. They are almost completely hairless though. Mutant Tuskaninnies come in shades of yellow to orange, with green spots. This helps them blend into the sea floor so they can hunt.
Uni- In contrast to your everyday Uni, Mutant Unis are very jarring. The first thing you’ll probably notice is their bat wings, but it’s not too surprising when compared to their Darigan version. Now their legs are completely different, with clawed feet instead of hooves. Interestingly their leg structure seems to be built like a Lupe or a Gelert’s instead of a Uni, and to go along with this they have a nice big set of very sharp teeth. Like the Mutant Ixi, these guys are carnivores! One big eye and four ears round it off, giving them a dragon-like appearance. Mutant Unis are always green, but some have a more turquoise hue to their body, or yellow highlights instead of lime green.
Usul- When you think of Usuls, the very last color on your mind will be Mutant. Structurally, they’re really not too different from non-mutated ones! The only major difference is that of course, Mutants have three eyes. They do get scales on the underside of their tails to help grip tree branches, and bigger claws, but they wouldn’t be out of place as an Usuki Doll. Mutating turns the Usul’s color to a single shade of purple, which can range from dull to bright on individuals, with a black ruff. Despite their bizarre appearance, they love to groom themselves as much as any Usul.
Vandagyre- Vandagyres were the final species to have a Mutant variation, and they’re quite an oddball. The colors are more suited for bright jungle environments than somewhere like The Haunted Woods, coming in vibrant shades of purple and green. Their tailfeather split up into several different tentacles, which they use along with their long, spindly fingers to climb trees like a Mynci. To round things off, they grow a third eye, which helps them see in the dark. Notably they grow long strands of hair on their heads, which can usually be found turned into little decorative braids (because they like to keep themselves well-groomed!)
Wocky- What a long tongue you have? The defining feature of the Mutant Wocky is, without a doubt, their long tongue and giant, sharp teeth. As gross as it is, they tend to use this tongue like a fifth limb (and for stealing snacks from their friends when they’re not looking!). Their eyes are solid red and their normally fluffy mane is replaced by a mass of tentacles. But one of the oddest features of the Mutant Wocky is their ears, which are split at the end and almost look like little rows of teeth. Perhaps this helps enhance their already excellent sense of hearing? And of course, they come in a mishmash of dull greens and yellows, with their tails having a shock of red and purple.
Xweetok- Now when you think of Mutants, you probably think they all live in the sewers of Neopia. Here is one that DEFINITELY lives up to that reputation. Unlike normal Xweetoks with their soft, huggable fur, Mutant Xweetoks are scraggly and almost completely hairless, except for the mane on their head and shoulders. Instead of the light brown and colorful manes that non-Mutants have, these guys are all pink, blue, and green, in various shades of turquoise and teal. Their eyes are almost always yellow or orange, and unfortunately this also applies to their teeth.
Yurble- Squishy, slimy, and very colorful, the Mutant Yurble is a stand-out Mutant! The main thing you’ll notice about them is their arms and horns have been replaced by some very handy tentacles. Instead of the luxurious mane normal Yurbles have, mutated ones have a smaller, patchier mane, but make up for it with their bright colors. They come in bubblegum blue and pink, with individuals having more or less spots on their tentacles and heads. They usually have quite the overbite, giving their teeth a long gnarly appearance, but they’re not very fearsome and will happily eat anything normal Yurbles will.
Zafara- The final Neopet on our list! When a Zafara mutates, they become covered in extremely short fur, giving them almost a smooth appearance. Their bellies and ears (and eyebrows) grow scales like a Draik, and most interestingly of all is the tips of their tails turn into stingers. Each one also grows a fearsome set of claws, although they keep the jolly nature of their non-Mutant brethren and only fight as a last resort. Mutant Zafaras are well-suited for Lost Desert life, and their powerful legs let them hop across the hot sand with great speed. They come in bright blue hues, sometimes even turning violet or purple, but their eyes are always red.
We hope you enjoyed our guide! And remember, even though they look scary, Mutants deserve love and respect as much as any other pet!
