Chapter Text
Lady Ruth
They stand on my door steps like lost pups. Basilton is wearing a paisley print suit. Simon is looking smart in a blue button down. His eyes are full of life, her life. She still lives within him. I can see it. "I told you boys no more knocking. Our home is always open for you."
"Lady Ruth, it's a pleasure to see you." Basilton says placing a kind kiss on my cheek. Such a sweet boy.
Simon hesitates on the step, a bit unsure of what to do. "You too, dear." I say, tapping my cheek. He leans in and I wrap both my arms around his shoulder holding on tight. He lets me. I can feel his wings under his coat. It's so good to have him here.
I lead them into the dinning room where Jamie is waiting. Simon eats plenty of chicken and curry sandwiches and I guilt Basilton into having another lemon and prawn. They chatter about football till the kettle runs dry. When I bring in a fresh pot Simon and Baz are holding hands under the table. Bless.
"Oh Simon, I have something for you. Come," I lead him to the sitting room where on the end table is a gift wrapped in paper. His face lights up when he lays eyes on it.
It's a leather belt, matching his scabbard and sword. Decorative dragons are carved along the edges. He ties it around his waist.
"You look so good wearing that sword. A proper Salisbury." I say beaming with pride.
"Thank you."
"It's yours dear, it belongs to the first son." He glances at the door for a moment like he wants to run, then grips the hilt of the sword instead.
"Look, I know you're my grandmother but I've never had a family before, I don't know what to do."
Damn the Mage for keeping this child from me and Damn him for stealing Lucy. "It's easy dear, you just have to let us love you."
"Yeah, I'm trying to learn how to do that." He blushes and looks over at Baz.
She smiles at him. "We'll teach you. You start by coming around every Sunday for lunch and tea. And keep bringing that handsome boyfriend of yours."
"Yes, ma'am" he says smiling. Standing in front of him I smooth out the wrinkles on his shoulders, then pat his cheek. *I am going to give this boy all the love his mother would have wanted him to have.*
"Now, let's go break out the cakes!"
