Work Text:
“what’s so special about your schedule anyways kunikida-kun?” dazai asks, draping himself over the couch, seated in the agency’s office.
kunikida looks up from his work, “it’s ideal.”
silence falls over the two of them for a moment.
“you could follow along with me.” kunikida offers, his voice quiet, as if this were the most intimate thing he’d ever done with someone other than katai. then dazai realized it probably was.
he huhs, turning onto his stomach, eyes meeting kunikida’s. “we don’t have the same work to do kunikida-kun!”
“i suppose that is true.” he takes out his ideal, turning through the pages. “i have a free block next, i plan to go on a run. would you care to join me?”
“a run? that’s so boring!” dazai announces.
“you don’t have to come.” kunikida puts his idea away, about to return to his work. “it was only an offer.”
dazai quickly cuts in, “but! i’ll still come with you kunikida-kun!”
the other smiles at him from across the room, dazai returning the smile.
the run itself had been enjoyable enough, however being attacked by some lowly criminals was not.
the criminals weren’t even ability users, simply some men who had decided that they were worthy enough to commit crimes, they were no men. however this led dazai to be useless.
well, not useless, just his ability, he and kunikida worked together rhythmically, both calm. these criminals were not a real threat to them, more of a minor inconvenience. dazai knew that kunikida would complain about how they threw off his schedule on the return to the agency.
soon enough the criminals were defeated, and kunikida and dazai began their return journey.
“thank you for coming with me, dazai.” is all kunikida says the entire walk home. the partners side by side, until arriving at the agency.
