Chapter Text
“Well… shit,” MK muttered, legs shaking as he tried to keep himself from falling farther down the newly opened chasm he found himself wedged inside of. “I really wish the staff came with magnetic recall…”
“Yes, that would have been more than ideal,” Red Son snipped from behind and below him, his own arms shaking in effort.
Unfortunately for the Monkie Kid, Monkey King’s staff did not come with magnetic recall. And double unfortunately, it was currently sitting in the destroyed remains of a few trees, right where he left it before the demon that attacked him had shaken the ground that swallowed them both up and ran off (because said staff had just bounced off their head and they really needed to make that retreat). And triple unfortunately, Red Son was already exhausted before the battle even started so teleporting right now was a little out of the question.
(Why were he and Red Son in the same place when a demon attacked? Had had absolutely no idea. He hadn’t seen the other since the White Bone Spirit incident.)
Fortunately, however, not only did MK have a little advantage up his sleeve that no one else except the person currently trapped with him knew about… no one else was around for possibly miles to learn about it either.
Hopefully.
It happened gradually, but still faster than he would have liked given the circumstances. He did his best to keep his glamor up as well as he could at all times now, so letting it fall away in a controlled manner that wasn’t “BOOM here I am” was still odd to him. And the shifting is his body caused him to slide down more, but his larger size meant that wasn’t an issue any longer as he reached down to yank Red Son up with a “yoink”.
The extra legs for leverage certainly helped that.
In no time flat a fully human appearing MK fell into the ground on top of Red Son, and in almost as little time a very not human MK very easily jumped his way out with a shocked Red Son holding on tightly to his back.
Or, rather, crawled and jumped. On 8 legs. Spider legs.
“Huh,” MK said with a chuckle, looking back down at the crevice and Red hanging onto his full spider demon form. “I was not expecting that to work as well as it did.”
“Oh really!?” Red Son snapped again, and he would never admit the reason his arms were shaking around MK’s shoulders were from surprise. He would never admit his arms were shaking at all regardless but still. “How were you expecting it to work!? Were you going to drop me!?”
“NO!” MK countered instantly, scratching the back of his neck as Red finally managed to get his arms to work and flop off his back like an offended fish. “Not… intentionally anyway, I just thought it would be harder to climb out carrying someone else. I’ve never done that before, Firefly.”
“Well let’s agree to never place ourselves into a position to do that ever again,” Red sighed, righting his coat as he took in the other’s appearance before him.
Ever since the other demon had revealed his true form to him, Red had been thinking about their situation. It was… odd, now. Not bad, at least not worse than it had been (if that was even possible), just odd knowing that your enemy and the successor to the Monkey King himself was very clearly related to the Spider Queen in some way. He wasn’t sure how yet, MK had never explained that, but it was clear that he was at least in her court. There weren’t really any other spider demons around after all.
There were other things that made it odd but he was not going to think about that yet.
“So…” MK continued as he retrieved his staff, slowly changing back into his human appearance with a smile. “I probably shouldn’t tell you but I’m gonna be gone for a few days to train with the Monkey King before Lunar New Year.”
“You’re right, you shouldn’t be telling me,” Red Son responded slowly. “So… why are you?”
“Maybe we can meet up and hang out? You haven’t exactly been, you know…” He shrugged, waving his hands in the air. “Evil lately.”
Red scowled but said nothing, sighing deeply and pinching the bridge of his nose. Noodle Boy would find out sooner or later anyway.
“Sure…”
