I loved you then, and I love you now

Summary:

Irwin and Julian obviously would have never expected that they'll ever see each other again back then, much less get married to the other.

But here they are, both uncharacteristically in shambles as they recite their vows to one another.

Chapter Text

At 20 years old, Julian Liu sure had never ever expected that he would ever meet his childhood friend-turned-enemy-turned-best friend ever again, until that one fateful day that Joni decided to bring him on that camping trip in the forest. Not only were they able to see each other again, they eventually turned out to be the best of friends.

And at 24, he definitely would have never expected that he would be standing across from said best friend-now-fiancee literally a few minutes away from slipping on a wedding ring. But, things were a bit too emotional for both sides of the couple.

“Joni, I can’t believe I’m actually getting married! I mean, can you believe it either? It’s so surreal and I just can’t stop thinking about it because it’s such a shock since I never expected that we’d even see each other, or at least on my part. Joni, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?”

Julian was in an absolute mess, and in all of Joni’s 15 years of living she had never felt the need to shut her respectable older brother this much. Usually, Julian would smack her in the head but now Joni felt that she was so close to turning the tables after a week of a panicky and anxiety-ridden Julian going through various meltdowns.

“Okay, okay! I get it! Now, Julian, please hold still so I can spray this in your hair!”

Joni was in charge of doing the touch-ups on Julian’s hair and overall attire, much to her delight. Sure, they always bickered and argued, but as the years went by both of them learnt to appreciate the other more. Joni liked that. And so did Julian. Which also led to them in a happy mood on this cheerful day, moments away from the older finally officiating his love with the obvious love of his life.

“And I’m going to just-” Joni smiled as she made a swift shove of a part of his bangs.

“There! Wow, Julian, you look like an adult now! Do you know where my real brother went?” She joked with a giggle.

Julian narrowed his eyes before letting out a slight chuckle too. After all, how could he be mad? Joni managed to style his hair in such a way that it was still akin to his usual messy style, just with his bangs swept to the side for a bit of formality.

“How do I look?”

Joni smiled contentedly at her brother, who was dressed finely in a light blue tuxedo with a little green chrysanthemum tucked into the pocket of his suit, which was now slightly wrinkled from the panic. All that along with his hair and his usual proud smile made him look like the most refined young man any person could only imagine to marry.

Only Irwin had that opportunity. He was more than happy with it.

“You look...subpar.” Joni suppressed her laugh until Julian rushed over to smack her in the head.
