The night was a beautiful thing to witness. When the sun rests below the horizon and the moon comes out to play, the world below is silenced and the busy hussle of the day comes to an end. The concept of peace and tranquility that washes over the night keeps people warm in the cold of the world’s darkened state.
The simple yet elegant view of the blanketing darkness with small dots of lights that gently holds you close to them, your eyes that would seek comfort in the dazzling sight of the night sky. To not appreciate the expanse of the universe’s ocean above the world would be a grave mistake.
In the middle of a forest over at a rundown house, two figures step out of its damaged porch. The two figures shiver as the night breeze welcomes them outside and the both of them hold hands as they take a step onto the earth.
The moonlight shines upon the two figures, providing just enough light to allow the both of them to see each other. There stood two girls, one with dark brown hair while the other had lilac hair. One was paler than the other and had the distinct feature of a pointy ear while the other had somewhat dark skin. Two pairs of brown and gold eyes met each other, and the girls held smiles on their faces.
“So… This is the Human realm?” The lilac girl with golden eyes spoke as she looked around in the darkness. This girl was Amity Blight, a witch that had come from the Boiling Isles.
“Yup!” The other girl, Luz Noceda the human, answered, “Unfortunately the portal stops working when I try to go beyond the forest so we can't go on adventures in my realm”.
Amity nodded as she looked around the area. This was the realm where her girlfriend had come from, The Human Realm. The witch could say that it wasn't as intimidating as she thought, but it did seem more empty than she imagined. The darkness ate away at everything within her sight and Amity wasn’t even sure at what she was seeing.
Luz looked at her girlfriend lovingly. Sure it was dark, but it was light enough that the human could see the curious look in Amity’s eyes. Amity suddenly looked less intrigued and somewhat disappointed, but Luz knew it was mostly because Amity couldn't really see anything besides themselves and a few of the trees in front.
The human even doubted that the witch had noticed that the trees were green given how little light they had. Seeing the look on her girlfriend’s face when she would realize that could be a sight to behold for Luz. Afterall, Eda had said Luz looked like a peryton in fairy lights when the human registered that the plants were commonly a vibrant orange.
Luz hadn’t realized she was staring at Amity while her thoughts ran wild. Even in the darkness, the witch could feel her girlfriend’s gaze on her and Amity politely cleared her throat. This prompted Luz back into the land of Reality and she jumped just slightly at being caught.
“Ah right!” Realization dawned on Luz as she reminded herself as to why she brought Amity through the experimental portal and to the human realm. The human happily grabbed Amity’s hand, feeling the warmth that spread upon contact and battled the cold of the night away. Amity returned the gesture and gripped gently onto Luz’s hand.
The human smiled, happy to receive even the smallest gestures of love from her girlfriend. “You know, I brought you here to show you something. Just… give me a minute” Luz said as she dug through her pockets with her other hand. Soon she produced a small flashlight and flipped the switch, summoning a beam of light from the device.
Amity followed the light’s path as she began to speak, “You should have taken that out as soon as we got he- Are THE TREES GREEN?!”.
Luz was right, Amity’s reaction was a sight to behold. The human had to stifle a soft giggle as she led her adorable cotton candy haired goddess to the rooftop of the abandoned house.

The night was a beautiful thing to witness. In the Boiling Isles, the night sky was powdered in a purple haze with stars racing across the heavens above. The moon had somewhat of a skull looking feature etched into it. There would be countless night demons flying along the sky or tormenting witches and, in a way, the nights there were chaotic.
It was different from the human realm. It lacked the essence of peace and quiet, an essence that Luz had missed about her home realm. The Boiling Isles was great, but the nights in the human realm were calmer and freeing.
The way the stars just calmed down one’s nerves, or how the silence could become your friend in the cold lonely night. The way the moon covered the land in a subtle light, bringing forth nature’s beauty at night. The absence of anything but the stars and the moon, and how even in the state of nothingness, the stars could make someone dream.
The night was a beautiful thing to witness in the human realm.
And Luz wanted to show Amity that.
The two girls had climbed onto the top of the house, where the trees no longer blocked their vision of the skies above and gave way to the ocean of stars that dominated the heavens.
Amity wasn’t really sure what Luz wanted to show her. In all honesty, she was nervous. However, the feeling was quickly washed away as Luz took both of Amity’s hands and held them in her own.
With the help of the flashlight’s light, Amity could see Luz’s eyes, and how much affection those two beautiful brown orbs held. Luz leaned in to press their foreheads together, a gentle yet joyful smile on her face the entire time.
“I know you like looking out your window during the night at Blight Manor” Luz stated as she slowly began rubbing Amity’s hands with her thumb, “I um… brought you here to see this”. And with that Luz slowly looked up and Amity followed her gesture.
Without the trees blocking their view of the sky, Amity could see it. The night sky of the human realm. It was different from the usual sky she’d see outside her bedroom window, but it was beautiful, as beautiful as it could ever be. The flashlight was turned off, drenching the girls in darkness. It didn’t make a difference as the night had wrapped itself around the witch.
Amity felt herself sitting on something soft, but her attention was stuck onto the night sky. The purple haze that usually accompanied the Isle’s sky was devoid, now the sky was a pure black canvas with the soft glow of the stars painting it into a masterpiece. The bright stars twinkled in the vast expanse of the heavens as if countless souls were endlessly dancing with each other in the moonlight.
Strangely, Amity felt at peace with herself, looking at the countless stars above and feeling a sort of warmth within her. Why she felt that way with this night sky was a mystery to her.
“They say that without the dark, the stars can't shine.” Luz’s voice filled the silence of the night. The human had Amity in her lap while Luz’s arms were wrapped around Amity’s waist.
Amity nodded along to what Luz had said, still enraptured by the sight above them. The witch leaned into the human who happily welcomed it.
“The Isles have brighter nights while here are darker. Both are pretty good but there's a sense of purity within this” Luz continued as she too looked at the night sky.
The night was a beautiful thing to witness. It would feel as if time had stood still, leaving only a feeling of tranquility that feels like it would never end. The night would bring solace to the broken souls and provide them the time to fix themselves. And the nights would always bring a reminder to people that a light in darkness was something to cherish.
Amity slowly looked away from the skies, choosing to look into her girlfriend’s eyes. And then she saw it, those lovely stars reflecting off her partner’s eyes like a light in the darkness. In a sense, Luz really was Amity’s light. The lilac witch smiled as she once again pulled her eyes to the skies.
Truly, the night was a beautiful thing to witness.
