Chapter 1: The Back's Back

Chapter Text

The servants of the Midoriya household were in a state of panic.

The early morning had brought forth a false sense of security when their master, Lord Izuku, was spotted leaving his chambers with a giddier smile than usual. Their delusion had only been exacerbated when Sumiko, the servant in charge of cleaning the lord's quarters, had reported being sent back because the lord's new husband, Lord Katsuki was still sleeping within.

The calm continued, even when Lord Katsuki finally sent for breakfast, which he ate in Lord Izuku's bed. Sumiko, who volunteered eagerly to bring it up, came back with news that the master's husband seemed mild for the morning. She wasn't too sure but there had appeared to be the faintest ghost of a smile on Lord Katsuki's face. She could however confirm that Lord Katsuki was in a pleasant mood. His reply to her 'Good morning!' had been vague but to the point, 'It is.'

They didn't really know when the tide had changed, when things had started to go take a turn for the worst but Sumiko suspected that it wasn't long after her third trip back to the bedroom, when she came back to collect the dishes. The master's husband was finally up, though still dressed in his nightclothes (which, she gossiped to the others, did absolutely nothing at all to cover the hues of red and purple marring his neck) and he was sitting on a nearby armchair, rifling through old photo-books that Lord Izuku kept on a shelf in his room.

Sumiko said that her presence had been barely registered, Lord Katsuki too engrossed in the photos to do anything more than wave a hand vaguely at the unmade bed and the tray of food. He had remained on the armchair for the full twenty minutes she had stayed fixing the chambers, flipping through the book slowly, his face an ugly scowl of total concentration.

Whatever it was that was so interesting to the lord, Sumiko couldn't begin to tell anyone, because she had recognised the old photo-book in his hand and there wasn't a thing that she thought was that fascinating in it. The book was filled with pictures of Lord Izuku's parents, and barely had any of the young lord himself. The only pictures that deserved that much scrutiny were probably the pictures of Lord Izuku's parents on their wedding day, a huge and a pompous display of wealth from the late Lord Hisashi's family. The photo-book held a few pictures of the day, one with the couple standing before the altar, one with just Lady Inko, one with both Lady Inko and young lord Izuku who had been just a boy of three years and the last being a picture of the venue, without all the guests. A garden wedding, with flowers and fountains decorating the place.

She could not see how that could have induced the master's husband temper, but it was the only thing that she could think of. Seconds after she exited the chambers, she had heard Lord Katsuki's angry yell before he too left the room and retreated to his own quarters. Not long after that, Lord Katsuki had dressed up and left the house entirely. The garden boy who saw his face as he left described it to be a 'dark cumulonimbus' which they all took to mean very bad. Very, very bad.

The servants were very tense after that, walking around on tip-toes as they went about their duties. They were not at fault, they were all sure of it, but they could never tell with their master's husband.

Lord Katsuki had been just a resident of the Midoriya household for three months, and there were only a handful of days between where they weren't subjected to the omega's furious temper.

The issue at first was that he was displeased most greatly by his union to Lord Midoriya. Like most noble unions, their marriage was an arrangement, a promise between their mothers and Lord Katsuki wanted nothing, absolutely nothing to do with it. Him and Lord Midoriya had been betrothed since practically birth, but their relationship soon dwindled after a childhood quarrel. Later, Lord Midoriya would present as an Alpha and get drafted for war, whilst Lord Katsuki would present as an omega and stay. For over three years, Lord Katsuki hadn’t heard a hair about Lord Izuku, only for the alpha to return bruised by the war, demanding Lord Katsuki’s hand in marriage and declaring that it was his.

As outrageous as it was to Lord Katsuki, it wasn't as scandalous to the rest of society. After all, they were betrothed and the pairing was more than suitable seeing as their second genders were already looking to be very compatible. Alpha and omega pairings were the standard for society; and whilst other pairings weren't frowned upon, the people did have a preference.

In fact, the only thing scandalous about their union was the presence of a third in the engagement. The son of a viscount, a trouble maker who had avoided the war because of a leg injury. Neito Monoma. Who also happened to catch the eye of lonely Lord Katsuki whilst they both waited out the war. There wasn't much information spread around about their affair, Lord Katsuki had always been an overly private person, but from what the rumours said, the omega had been in love. Lord Izuku's return was a gross inconvenience, his very presence a threat to the forbidden lovers' romance. The only option left was to flee. Elope.

The story got a tad specious after that.  Most of the gossip claimed that Lord Izuku had flown into a jealous rage, and pursued the omega until he found him and forced him back to his home. The stories said that there was no wonder as to why Lord Izuku's newly wed hated him so, seeing as the omega was strong armed into a marriage out of obligation. But the servants of the Midoriya household knew better. The jealous rage (though 'rage' wasn't something they could attribute to their young master), they could confirm. The pursuing had indeed occurred but what the stories got wrong was that Lord Katsuki had returned on his own accord, neither coerced nor compelled, but truly defeated as he trudged into his new home. The next day, they had wed. None of the servants knew what had occurred and they weren't stupid enough to ask either.

The marriage had started off on a rocky start. Lord Katsuki refused to have a big wedding or a wedding at all, and wouldn't stop screaming until Lord Midoriya agreed to have the ceremony in the office, with just their parents as the witnesses. Even that wasn't enough to appease the omega. Lord Katsuki never showed up for the mini feast the servants had prepared for their wedding night. He stayed locked up in his room until midday the next day.

The days kept getting worse after that but not without effort from Lord Izuku, who tried his hardest to make the shambles of their marriage work. Lord Izuku rose up each and every morning and made his way to his husband's quarters to wake him up and entice him to eat breakfast with him. But Lord Katsuki would either refuse him entirely, or show up and scream the entire morning at him. The shouting matches often occurred on the days the omega was purely annoyed, so most days, and usually ended up with an upturned breakfast table.

But Lord Izuku didn't stop there and doubled up his efforts instead. He sought his newly wed every afternoon, hoping to spend time with him in the library, or the stables or whatever caught his omega husband's fancy the afternoon. But the omega always seemed to see him coming and made it a game to see how long he could hide away and run from his alpha. Lord Izuku eventually got used to his newly wed's tricks and started finding him quicker, but his only reward was even more screams from his husband.

The servants grew to hate those screams. Screams that were often accompanied with violent tantrums and displays. Lord Katsuki was a bomb that always stopped ticking, exploding around everything and everyone before reverting to a ticking bomb once more. Simuko once thought he would be a fun man to be around, before she collided with the explosion itself. One morning, she had accidentally revealed the omega's secret locations to Lord Izuku; his very best hiding place, a hidden garden by the stables. The following week, she had been educated on the multiple ways the omega wanted her dead.

The tense atmosphere thickened when the servants had the telling slam of the carriage door. Moments later, Lord Katsuki strode into the house, face pinched. He paused in the hallway, regarding all the servants who were unlucky enough to be in the same room, pretending to be hard at work hoping it would be enough to distract Lord Katsuki from targeting them.

Sumuki chanced a glance at the omega. It was a mistake. Lord Katsuki's eye trained on her immediately, and a finger, quivering with rage pointed towards her. 'You.'

She fought not to shake in her boots. 'Yes, sir?'

'Gather everyone into my office.' She stood waiting for further instruction but it seemed that the omega was done. 'Now!'
