“You promised you wouldn’t cry, Courtney.”
Gwen sniffled as she sat in her backyard with her overly emotional girlfriend.
Courtney wiped her tears on her sleeve and laughed.
“It’s finally setting in that you're leaving.”
Tears continued to slip out of the girl’s eyes as she tried her best to hide them from Gwen.
Gwen’s mother had decided to move across the country; there wasn’t any real reason, the woman didn’t like to stay in the same place for too long.
Gwen had decided to visit her old tree swing before she left for good. Courtney chose to sit on the lush grass and watched her girlfriend slowly swing back and forth.
Gwen stood up and placed herself next to the sobbing girl.
“Please stop crying.”
She began to tear up thinking about how far away she’d be from her love.
No more hugs after a rough day at school, no one to call when her brother was being annoying, no escape from her dull life.
Courtney wiped her eyes once more as she turned to Gwen who was crying as much as she was now.
Courtney pulled her in an embrace and both girls continued to sob into each other's shoulders.
Surprisingly, Courtney released her arms from Gwen first.
“Ew, you got eyeliner on my shirt.” Courtney joked to lighten up the mood.
Gwen rubbed her eyes and glared at the black ink on her fingers.
“Sorry,” She giggled as Courtney cracked a smile. “I just thought about how much I’ll miss you.”
Her eyes started to well up again.
Courtney wiped the goth’s tears away before they could fall.
The back screen door slammed open.
Out walked Gwen’s snotty little brother with his blue Nintendo in his hand.
Without looking up, he yelled “Gwen! Mom says it’s time to go!”
He blindly walked back inside while the door slowly shut behind him.
Neither of the girls could contain the tears.
Gwen started to stand up to join her family.
Courtney followed after her.
“Promise you’ll call me every day.” Courtney asked while walking with Gwen through the empty house.
“Only if you send me letters, you know how much I love your writing.”
Courtney started to blush.
“Of course I will.”
The two girls excited out of the front door to find Gwen’s family car loaded up and ready to go.
Her brother sat in the backseat with his eyes glued to the gaming console.
“I guess this is goodbye.”
Courtney turned to Gwen and embraced her once more.
As she lifted her head from the hug, Gwen planted a kiss on Courtney’s lips.
She removed her arms from her waist and gave her a small smile.
She silently walked towards the car door as tears rolled down Courtney’s cheeks yet again.
She let them fall as she waved goodbye to Gwen for the last time.
The car rolled away from the house and left Courtney alone in the front yard of her girlfriend’s old house.
